Never buy AppleCare at point-of-sale or from retail!!! There are many reputable sellers on eBay that will give you a significant discount. For example, I just got AppleCare for my MacBook Pro Retina 15" for $244 from a seller on eBay where it would cost $350 retail from Apple (and yes, the registration code provided worked).

Also, you have up to the year from the computer's purchase date to buy AppleCare. Don't be in a rush and shop for the best price.

I didn't even know that it was an option to buy it from 3rd party instead of Apple or some authorized dealers. If you can share the seller names of which you can confirm their AppleCare+ is legit, it would be appreciated.

Normally I'd agree with you, but this is a nice option to have when traveling in an area that doesn't have an Apple Store. I'd always prefer to bring to to an Apple Store, but sometimes it just isn't an option.
Stop. You're making too much sense. The haters and cynics will not accept this. If the bashing of Best Buy, or anything, isn't complete and absolute, then they will feel destroyed. I've purchased appliances and other products from Best Buy with never a problem. And returns have been easy and quick. It isn't my goto place for Apple products, but if I had no choice, I could accept it.

Can't you buy AppleCare at any time from Apple's web site after you've purchased your device? Why does it matter if BB offers it or not? What I'm interested in is whether or not BB will continue offering two-year contract pricing somehow for Verizon iPhones now that Verizon has eliminated contracts. Currently, BB's website still reflects the ability to purchases iPhones at the subsidized, 2-year contract price.

Best Buy will begin offering AppleCare and AppleCare+ extended warranty plans for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and other eligible Apple products across its U.S. stores starting September 13, according to an internal training video obtained by MacRumors. The news was first reported by 9to5Mac.

AppleCare+ purchased through Best Buy will include accidental damage coverage for the same service fees charged by Apple. Both protection plans will also cover the accessories in the box and most other products on the same transaction, such as an Apple Display or AirPort Express purchased alongside an iMac.

Customers that purchase AppleCare or AppleCare+ can receive service at Best Buy or take their product directly to Apple. Best Buy will continue to offer revamped Geek Squad warranty plans for non-Apple products, including Geek Squad Protect & Support, Protect & Support Plus, 24/7 Support and Product Replacement.

Apple is expected to announce the next-generation "iPhone 6s" and "iPhone 6s Plus" within the first two weeks of September, with in-store availability usually occurring around one week later, so AppleCare and AppleCare+ should be available at Best Buy in time for the launch of those smartphones.

LOL, if Best Buy is the only store in town, it's still not an option due to their poor reliable service, that's what people are trying to tell you.

I'd rather drive 200 miles to an Apple Store than have Best Buy geeks even touch my phone, even if I lived next door a Best Buy.

They can't all be that bad. I don't think I've ever had them service any of my devices.

If you have never had them service any of your devices, they could be good or bad.

By my logic they do not deal with Apple products on a daily basis, so they lack experience compared to an Apple store.

You may get the occasional Apple geek within a Best Buy store, but how would one know?

The few times I checked out their sales people's knowledge about Apple, they tried to steer me to PCs.

thats cool and all, but newer rules can ask you for a copy of receipt from an official apple reseller and you could be out of your $244 ;)

Some other stores. BH Photo Video, LA Computer Company, MacMall, Adorama. Or from Apple; check out as a student for a big discount.

I remember a few years ago being nearly escorted from the local Best Buy store by management after confronting a salesperson that was trying to talk a couple out of a Mac, on their sales floor, in front of their Apple kiosk.

The crap was about what you'd expect: 'They are hard to learn', 'Macs aren't compatible with anything else', 'Office won't run on them'...

Came up carrying a Microsoft Office for Mac box and asking if that would run on a PC. Ooops. Mentioned that an 80 year-old couple had switched to Macs and never looked back. Was editing photos and even did a video in about a week.

The couple saw me in the parking lot, and actually thanked me...

Yeah, their 'geek squad' can really be that bad too. If you haven't, don't. There are stories about them stealing pictures, and other content off of people's systems, and planting malware and viruses so they have to bring the system back...

Best buy is absolutely horrible. I walked into Best Buy a few weeks ago to buy my niece a mac book pro. There was no one around to assist me. The only computer guy was some "windows surface" guy. By the time they found someone for me I just said "I will just go to the Apple Store ". The only reason I even thought about going there was that it was a little cheaper there on sale. Which the Apple Store ended up matching their price anyway.

Much better than the nearly $500 3 year total protection plan a BBY employee tried to push onto me yesterday. I'm not kidding.

Still would just use the AC only at a Genius bar.

I've driven two hours to get to a genius bar. Yeah, they can be 'odd', but they usually know their stuff...

From a Business Insider article:

Best Buy will never close close to the level of customer service that is offered at Apple stores. I understand there is sometimes a logistics issue, but BB does not get any of my consumer $$.

I needed to do some upgrades on my wife's PC and the attitude and price from their Geek Squad was unbelievable. To install an updated graphics card, I was told 3 days. I finally bought the parts myself and did the card & power supply in 2 hours. I understand there are those that either don't know how or want to take the time, but that service is a rip off.

Another avenue for Tim & Co. to finally make Apple mainstream. I guess good for the ability to add sales, but it just kinda goes along with the dumbing down of their product. (Mac Mini, MacBook, bottom line iMac). I know that we here are in the minority, however, it just seems like they are now just making disposable appliances for the masses.

I really don't understand this attitude. So if you buy the accidental damage Applecare Plus protection plan and need to get the item replaced (which is what that plan does) you mean to say you would rather drive 200 miles to an Apple store to get the product replaced when Best Buy (next door to you) could simply replace it? Okaaaaay.

On a different note, I think once anyone here speaking negatively about Best Buy is in a situation where it's not an option to drive far to an Apple Store (let alone even get a genius appointment in any decent time) they would happily take it to a nearby Best Buy. I don't buy all these negative posts. When the situation actually happens to you, people drop their pride pretty quickly.

I know it is a huge profit maker for them, but I really think that in this day and age, the world's most valuable company could offer more than 1 year of warranty on its products as standard.

Or more than 3 years for paid Apple Care to cover those logic boards that always fail right around the 3.2 year mark.

Not when it comes to the iPhone. You can only buy it within 30 days of the purchase and not online. You have to call Apple over the phone to do some sort of test to make sure the phone is working or bring it into an Apple store.

Accidental damage covered on your Mac just for buying the AppleCare+ from BestBuy instead of Apple is a good deal for me!

There is NO coverage of accidental damage with Apple Care+ for OSX devices.

You will have a flat rate repair fee that goes in levels depending on what type of damage you are looking at. Liquid being the worse.

But if you run that thing with a train, and it is beyond repair, you are on your own, Apple Care+ or not.

The same is not true on an IOS device, as long as the three main components of the phone are presented, then you are good to go with Apple Care+, but you will still pay some money.

I am very interested in knowing. If Best Buy will service Apple Care+ devices, does this mean that there will be a resident Genius working at the Best Buys?

Does this mean that now Best Buy will become an Apple authorized service center for IOS devices and OSX as well?

Will Best Buy carry a stock of all swap repair items?

Or will it mean that everything will be a depot repair?

Its 60 days not 30.

I find it interesting that our warranties are only 1 yr for iPhones when most people keep their phones for 1-2 years probably?

And there are also MANY people that sell fake AppleCare, and also fake iTunes cards.

For me, if it's worth getting AppleCare for, it's worth getting real AppleCare....

Um, did you notice that I said "reputable" in my post? And that it was a working code (in a real AppleCare package)?

But, hey, if you like to pay more for the same service feel free.
