Um, did you notice that I said "reputable" in my post? And that it was a working code (in a real AppleCare package)?

But, hey, if you like to pay more for the same service feel free.

I bought some stuff from someone with a 99% satisfaction rating, with over 3,000 sales, and got a 'slightly warn turntable' that looked like it had been sitting in someone's barn for 5 years!

I don't trust ebay, until I get what I wanted and it's not a complete pile of crap!

It does seem to be just me, of my friends, but I've been screwed several times so far on things that I've bought. Selling isn't bad, so far, but the stories of the people screwed by ripoff buyers are epic too.

And there are also MANY people that sell fake AppleCare, and also fake iTunes cards.

For me, if it's worth getting AppleCare for, it's worth getting real AppleCare...

I wouldn't buy heart medicine at a flea market, and that's basically what ebay is. And for people that don't know what a flea market is, I feel for you. Imagine a dark alley, in, say New York, and getting a 'great deal' on real 'Prado' bags that 'sell at Macy's for hundreds of dollars'...

Then pay with PayPal and check the serial they give you on the apple website. If it's fake get your money back.

Maybe not related directly to this thread, but I think Apple needs to start an Apple Care Plan for family..
1 for $99
2 for $169
3 for $209 etc..

Normally I'd agree with you, but this is a nice option to have when traveling in an area that doesn't have an Apple Store. I'd always prefer to bring to to an Apple Store, but sometimes it just isn't an option.
Yeah, this is pretty huge, actually. Granted even in smaller centres there is usually a mom and pop shop with an Apple Certified Tech who can handle AppleCare repairs tucked away somewhere, but I bet most people would never know to find them.

Apple takes their AppleCare very seriously. If BB end up doing a poor job, they will yank that privilege back real hard.

Also on the plus side, this means fewer Apple customers will end up with overpriced and subpar Geek Squad protection plans.

I just hope this branches out to Canada sooner rather than later.

good choice for me. best buy is down the street. apple is 2.5hrs away.

Well it's convenient location wise there's bb way closer to me than Apple stores.

Honestly though I'd use bh photo for AppleCare and I'm probably gonna start using square trade since they cover accidental damage too

There certainly are scam folks out there. And, just as certain, there are reputable sellers. As an example, I recently purchased an AppleCare from B&H, with whom I have dealt for +20 years. Reputable company, stand behind their products. I've bought thousands of dollars of things from them and, in the single instance where there was a problem, they fixed it right away. I have no relationship other than as a satisfied customer for quite a few years.

Clearly, you have never dealt with, nor researched, Best Buy's service department.

I have fortunately avoided this problem. However a college-age friend ignored my recommendation to buy from the Apple Store - or at least from the Apple-capable university store - and bought instead from BestBuy. It wasn't a total disaster but she did have problems and - no - there was no loaner for the week that hers was in for repair. The U provides that but she was stuck. A mistake I think she'll not make again.

True, but with $75 deductible. AppleCare has $79 charge for accidental damage. For the four bucks I'll go with the Apple plan, thank you. SQ's initial charge is a bit lower too, but AC gives you 2-year phone support.

Just one data point - YMMV - but going into an Apple Store with a problem device is a better experience if you (1)bought it from the Apple Store and/or, (2)it's under AppleCare. Worked well for me.

So when my lightning cables stop working I can exchange them @bb since I have ac plus?

i've had nothing but the worst service from best buy, no way i'm bringing my shiny new apple product in to them to be fixed...

Dude it's AppleCare…. the plan will be honored by Apple itself. Read the text of the article. It clearly says that you can BUY the AppleCare plan from BB, but when it's time to take it in for repairs, you then have option to bring it in directly to Apple, or bring it to BB. In other words…. choice.

That's a win-win for many people who don't have an Apple Store within 100 miles of them.

Hey guys here's a little info if you're interested: Apple actually sent experts to a brand new Geek Squad center that was built to support BestBuy's Apple Care. Prior to this, Geek Squad repairs weren't up to Apple's standards, but Apple has made sure that Best Buy will be doing everything as good as they would. The products aren't repaired in the store, they're still sent out to the new Geek Squad area. I'd personally feel safe sending them my Apple products, but maybe that's just me....

Never buy AppleCare at point-of-sale or from retail!!! There are many reputable sellers on eBay that will give you a significant discount. For example, I just got AppleCare for my MacBook Pro Retina 15" for $244 from a seller on eBay where it would cost $350 retail from Apple (and yes, the registration code provided worked).

Also, you have up to the year from the computer's purchase date to buy AppleCare. Don't be in a rush and shop for the best price.

48 messages in 4 years and that's your advice when you pop back in : buying insurance from the back of a truck (or the equivalent)! Considering that trust in that piece of paper being worth something is crucial, why the earth would anyone even take that risk to save $100 bucks!

Because $100 is a lot of money to most. While I've never bought Applecare from a 3rd party. I would definitely consider purchasing if it saved $100. Don't be an elitist.

Never buy anything from Bestbuy, and never ever let them service anything, especially an Apple product. Been there done that.

Hilariously untrue until proven.

As quoted from a recent DealNews article about this...

"There are many permutations and combinations of device fixes that apply with AppleCare, but for simplicity's sake, let's choose a common example: Fixing a cracked screen on an iPhone.

For those that don't know, Apple will let you pay $99, on top of the price of your phone, to receive two years of device protection. For the iPhone, this includes "up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $79 service fee." That means that, in total, someone with AppleCare protection will pay $178 to repair a cracked screen. Without coverage, that same fix costs $109 for the iPhone 6 and $129 for the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 (plus a $6.95 shipping fee). Passing up Apple Care+ just saved you $62.

But what about multiple cracks? (You dropped your phone once, so it probably means you'll do it again, butter-fingers.) Surely you're going to make up the cost of AppleCare in bulk! Well, on your second screen fix, the grand total paid by an AppleCare person would be $271. Someone without AppleCare is paying $232 to repair an iPhone 6 and $272 for all other iPhones. Therefore, if you bought an iPhone 6, you might want to pass on the extra protection, but for all other models, it's equal.

There are other perks to the service, for example, free battery replacement which would otherwise cost $79. Provided you only need to replace a defective battery once, an iPhone 6 user can only get the full value of AppleCare through breaking the screen twice and replacing the battery — and what's the likelihood of that happening?"
