Honestly best buy should change their name to Worst Buy.

They are terrible and their CS is completely idiotic to say the least. Although their CS did improve from a little bit in the last few years, I would much much rather buy from an online retailer than Worst Buy.

The MBA is on the website for preorder.

I called the stores in Canada, and they dont offer a 100$ gift card, they offer Office for mac for free and do not give the 50$ discount.

Anyone in the states know if they give you a 100$ giftcard for their back to school promotion which isn't publicized.

Best Buy has it on the site but not for sale yet. But I'm going to pick one up right now! The trick to checking inventory is to NOT say youre looking for an Air. Just say "I'm checking if you have this SKU in stock" and give them the SKU number from the site (3108109 for the 13" 128GB was mine). I did that to my local BB and they didnt have it, but they saw one 10mi away has 3 so I called them to hold it.

Update: Success! I tried the SKU someone posted earlier for the $100 Gift Card but they said it didnt pull up anything. But they checked inventory and there's a very small limit per store so if you want one then have them hold it for you.

Thank you so much, that's the model I want as well. I'll check tomorrow. Sneaky buggers.

I have read several reports and success stories from customers who have either a) gotten a price match on the Apple education discount AND the $100 Best Buy gift card, or b) only gotten the $100 Best Buy gift card. It seems the mileage may vary regarding price matching.

Regardless, I think Best Buy is, personally, the way for me to go. Even if I don't get the $50 education savings, the $100 dollar BB gift card more than makes up for it. I have zero use for the iTunes gift card; I can't find a single thing I'd want to purchase.

Of course, if you were to pick up a printer along with Apple, then that's the wiser choice, but I still have the free printer I got with my iMac purchase lying around, unwrapped, still in box.

I hope Best Buy gets 'em soon.

To those purchasing from Best Buy, share your experiences!

Awesome. My local store opens at 10 so I'm going to call them as soon as they open and ask them to hold one if they have any.

Brought the SKU to my local store and the rep was able to tell me that they had 4 of the 13" base models on order and that they were arriving at some point thursday. He didn't know what time so he said Friday would be the best time to check back. I decided to just order from BestBuy.com and use my giftcards/credit card and it should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Now I play the waiting game...

Question about Reward Zone: it's just a free membership thing right? And all that happens is you get points for your purchases at Best Buy, regardless of form of payment (cash, other credit cards, etc.)?

If so, I wouldn't mind signing up for RZ the day I purchase the Air.

Yeah, the RZ membership is free. But I *think* you have to get the RZ credit card in order to take advantage of their 18 month "0%" same as cash option.

So if you purchase the 13" Air during the private sale on Sunday, you could get $80 worth of gift certificates to use later on at BB. (every 1,000 points = $20).

I got a great deal at Best Buy yesterday. The store in Scottsdale, AZ got the Airs in yesterday afternoon and I was able to get a 13" i5, 128GB for $1,199+tax with 0% financing for 36 months. This includes $100 off for the education discount which beats getting a gift card. After tax it's more than MacMall and Amazon, but the great financing and no wait makes it worth it. Best Buy is offering 0% for 18 months, but this particular store has been extending that to 36 months on Apple purchases for the last 6 or so months.

The new Air is fantastic! I think the "low end" 13" model is the best value and tough to beat.

Best Buy has them on sale and for sale. $65 off 13" with free shipping.

Just ordered, with sale price and tax was only $22 over base.

$100 off the 256GB air!

Don't expect to get it on time. I ordered earlier and it's backordered. Even worse, they have to correct my order to reflect the price change since it was full price when I ordered. The rep says they didn't get the shipment they expected in today which actually has me a bit more optimistic that it won't take long. If you do get a shipping confirmation please reply to the thread as I'll be curious to see if all models are backordered or just the base 13 that I ordered.

to NYC people: Best Buy Chelsea, Union Square, and 45th St have them in limited stock. I got my 11" 4GB 128SSD at the Chelsea one and they had 2 left. got mine with the $60 off and the $100 gift card. happy as a clam right now :)

Did you order online or did everything at the store? What was your total cost out the door?

at the store. $1230 and i must say.. that was the first time i was real happy with the shopping experience at best buy. the chelsea employees were great. didn't try to push extras on me, and were just overall real friendly. i tried to add the $100 gift card towards the purchase, but no go.. but i'll just spend it on accessories, so it's cool

Question to best buy buyers. How did you provide proof of being a student? The one I went to asked for my .education email address but im attending this fall and don't have my school email yet. Did they ask for confirmation?

I hope this sale price is still available on Sunday. I'm going to the reward zone event and will end up getting the 13" Air for $1,234 plus a whopping $175 in gift cards.

I called several of the Best Buy's in my area (Baltimore/DC Area) and a couple of the stores have the 11", but none in my area the 13". The Apple Stores, of course, have both.

Just listed my MBP 15" on ebay, so maybe someone will "Buy it Now" so I can head to the Apple store and get my MBA!

One person told me the sale ends Saturday, but then again, he also adamantly denied the $100 dollar Best Buy gift card, so I don't think he knew what he was talking about.

It seems not all Best Buys are offering the gift card, but all of them have the sale going on. This is frustrating.

What about giving him the SKU for the giftcard?
