Here's what I expected before going into Best Buy:
"Hi, I want to buy the new macbook airs. You also have a $100 promo as well."
"Oh, I'm not sure if we have those yet"
"You do. I called and had someone check the SKU"
"Cool"
"Oh wait, we have them. Have no idea what you're talking about regarding the $100 promo."
Here's what actually happened
See above.
Longer version:
I went to two stores. One store had to be alerted to the fact that they had new macbook airs. Par for the course for Best Buy. They had never heard about the $100 gift card. I gave them the sku. Interesting. They saw it but could not add it on to a mac. They tried pretty hard and were running around in circles. Called around, made some calls, nothing. So I left.
Went to another one. They had the macbook airs. They said that the $100 promo was for PCs only. They also then said it was for Broadband service (?!) if I signed up. Clearly a waste of time.
They operate on a 1% profit margin, no doubt in part b/c of operational screwups like this. The funny thing is they always ask to check the website, as in the same bestbuy.com website. And when the employees are checking the same public website that you are, that's a bad sign. If at all possible, just go to the apple store or order online. It's not worth it for me to try to get this deal. Why? B/c the $1234 price may go away after tomorrow, and then the $100 promo will be in effect. It's not worth the aggravation. I'd classify this as a your mileage may vary, not a true deal for the masses. I do want to say that the two reps that I dealt with were nice, and not altogether incompetent. I think that they were not given the tools or training that they need to succeed.
