i went to BB in San Marcos, CA and got the 13 base model for $1200 + tax and got $100 GC easy. just give the guy the SKU # and u will be set. i didnt even need to talk to the manager :D

I picked up my 13" 1.7 i5/128 GB MBA for 1239.99 with the current sale. I had no issues what so ever getting Best Buy to price match the Apple gift card offer. That gift card instantly went into an external 750 GB HD which will hold my media and time machine backups.

FYI: The Best Buy computer "specialist" I worked with told me that apparently Apple recoups the cost on them price matching the gift card. So if you have someone who tells you they can't price match the card--skip arguing with him/her and go straight to a manager.

Can you get $100 gift card on a left over air? Thanks

Do you mean a 2010 model? I don't see why not. It's still a new mac that you're buying.

The only strange thing about BB is that there is such a discrepancy between stores on the GCs. You would think they would be better organized.

Can you still get the $100 gift card when you order the MacBook Air online and pick it up in-store?

PS. Anyone know when the sale for the Air officially ends?

No gift card in Pacific NW :(

Update on Best Buy in Bellingham, WA: THe store has a few new base MBAs in stock (11 and 13). Honoring the sale price. However, the new MBAs not on display, not listed in store inventory if you check from the BestBuy.com site, and no in-store ads -- you need to ask.

This store is not giving any gift cards (Best Buy or iTunes) or matching the Apple Back-to-School promotion. No tax-free weekend in WA... (and there is tax in WA on Amazon purchases). :(

Waiting on MacMall or MacConnection.

The Best Buy at Northgate Mall gave me $100 off. I just asked if they could price match Apple's education discount and they asked for my school ID. My friend got a $100 gift card at the Best Buy in Everett, WA. Don't think you would want to drive all the way down there though.

I live in Vancouver and I'm planning to drive down to Best Buy in Bellingham to purchase the new Macbook Air. I'm afraid that this will happen :(

Hey all, thanks so much for the tips! So glad I saw this thread, as I was debating between the 13" base Air and $1000 base MBP deal at Microcenter. In metro-Detroit, and went to the Farmington Hills Best Buy tonight. Was able to pick up the Base 13" (1.7/4GB/128GB) for $1234 + $100 GC (didn't apply it on site - thought should have). Didn't take advantage of the financing.

:-D

They also had the base iMac for sale at $1140, base macmini for $570, and top macmini for $770.

Yea. It was very tempting to get the base 13 in MBP. The air cost 1500 plus tax. That's a base 13 in MBP and a iPad 2.

FYI, the website is still showing the sale prices from last week on the Airs. So you should be able to get it this week, also.

The good new is that in a lot states next week starts tax free weekend, so people can save even more!

Hey guys, did anyone buy from BestBuy/Futureshop in Canada?
They're offering Office but no gift card, and I'm not sure it's so worth it... Anyone?

Picked up the Base 13" (1.7/4GB/128GB) for $1234 + $100 GC. I just signed up for the Chase Freedom card $200 cash back if you spend $500+.

Well, I'm on my way down there now, to trade in stuff. I will have to assume the gift card is a promo match on back to school.

Traded in my unibody Macbook today and got $631 for it, although I already have a MBA...2 of them actually...so I picked up a mac mini instead....thanks for posting this thread, I paid $138 out of pocket for a much better computer...

My local Best Buy did not match the $100 gift card with Apple. Instead, they cut the sale price of their Macs. So the 13-inch 256GB SSD model was $100 off. The other models, however, were not $100 off so I don't know how they can say they are matching Apple's offer.

bought macbook air 13 inch 128gb for 1234$ + tax + bb 100$ gift card :)
the guy didnt even ask question or asked for a student id and he just gave me the gift card
awesome!

but sad thing is i got toshiba ssd but its ok i dont even feel any difference lol I played with it for abt 30 mins in bestbuy with their mba and that one had samsung ._. so i was hoping for one

but anyway i got a great deal so i'm overall happy

I bought the 11" on saturday, used it then took it back to exchange for the 13". They didn't have it in stock and they ordered it online and gave me the 13" base for 1139 + tax. Didn't ask about the price adjustment. Just walked out of there and now waiting for my 13" mba to be delivered :D

Reading through this thread, I wonder if I should go back to the store and talk to a manager. You guys are being given the gift card AND the discount. No fair. :D

Just a note...

I traded in my refurbed white '09 Macbook on Friday for $500 towards a 13 Air. One of the things that is on the list is an option for you to have THEM wipe your system for you. This is actually a bit misleading, because it's the reason they ask for YOUR recovery disks. Their wiping of your computer is merely them using your install disks. If you don't have your disks they won't take some money off their offer, they will understandably refuse to take your trade in for obvious security reasons. For some reason I could not find my disks, so I had to go the Apple store where they nicely ( Sort of, there's a story to that but I don't want to rant ) wiped the macbook for free.

Something you may want to keep in mind, if you are thinking of trading in. If you don't have the install disks, have Apple do it, and you won't need to turn in disks after all.

Also; they weren't even considering giving me the $100 gift card. Collectively they all acted dumb, which is strange considering they are less than a mile from a college. You know they gave the card to some people.
For me it wasn't a bad deal, I had gotten the refurbed Macbook for $800, and was able to use it to get a NEW 2011 Air for basically $800.

Went to the store that had one and they offered only educational discount. I didn't buy. But on the way home, stopped by another store and they give out the GC, but they didn't have it in stock.

Can I buy from the first store and ask the later to adjust me with the GC? Has anyone done this before? Thanks.
