Didn't get the $100 GC, :( but going to keep on trying. (Would appreciate any advice)

I bought a Macbook Air 13" 256GB this past Sunday partly because of this thread (plus needed to upgrade black Macbook). Bought during the private Rewards Zone event. Sale price was $1499.

I asked if they were honoring the Apple edu promo, which they initially said yes to. However the manager that came by to approve it proceeded to feed me a host of excuses.

1) I could not get the $100 GC because the price was already discounted plus I had decided to finance the Air with my Best Buy card, 18 months interest free. If I was willing to pay cash he would offer me the $100GC.

I was bummed but bought the Air at $1499.99 plus tax ($131.25) total $1637.24 , Best Buy card 18 months interest free, Rewards Zone member would get triple or quadruple points, however I've read here that if you finance it with their card you lose the points?

After my purchase I was still bummed and decided to approach the manager for a clarification of what he told the sales associate to tell me. I wanted to confirm that he was not honoring the $100GC, he initially said "No, you should get the $100 GC " Checked my receipt, looked at the $1599.99- sale disc $100= $1499.99 printed on it. He proceeded to walk away with my receipt to check Apple's website behind closed doors.
Returned back and said:

2). I'm price matching Apple's website. (No mention of the earlier 18months 0% comment). He said he can charge me $1599.99 and offer me the $100GC, or basically I can take what I had sale at $1499.99. I asked is that what Apple's charging $1599 he said point blank Yes. Remember the $100 GC is the edu promo, so prices of Airs are $50 less, which I only confirmed when I got back home.

So how is it that people are managing to still get the $100GC over and above the sale price of the Macbook Airs??
People are buying the 13" 128" at the BB sale price of $1234 PLUS getting the $100. About an average of $150 off, which seems fair $50 off Air plus $100 GC
How about anyone buying the 13" 256 at $1499? Anyone getting a GC on this one. At the very least a $50 GC to price match?

Sorry for the lengthy post. Have not opened it and am considering taking it back to try get a better deal at another BB. On the fence!

Yeah they honestly are under no obligation to give both the sale price and the $100 gift card and I would not have faulted them at all if they would have said I could take either the $1234 price or the $1250 price match + $100 GC (easy decision). It's clearly a matter of luck--you just have to get an employee/manager who is willing to give the $100 GC and the sale price.

This is how they did it for me:

Did anybody who is a premier silver member also receive the coupon in the mail this week for getting a $130 GC when spending over $1k ? Anybody know if you could combine that with the other $100 GC offer and potentially get $230 in GCs? Am I being too greedy? LOL. I want to buy the new air and I figure this offer works and if I get the reward zone points, I would be a happy man.

Premier Silver member here. Read the fine print on the coupon (VERY SMALL). The $130 GC does not apply for Apple products. I already checked. :)

I finally decided late yesterday to pull the trigger on the MBA. Ran to my local Best Buy with 95 bucks in Reward Zone points...a 55 buck gift card given to me last year by Best Buy Corporate due to a service failure (Best Buy Corporate has been awesome to me)...The price was $1234...To me, since I was already getting quite a deal because of the Reward Zone points and the gift card, I was going to push for the gift card at purchase.

I asked if the store was honoring the Apple Back to School promotion. The salesperson said yes and said they were issuing 100 buck gift cards. As he input my transaction, he said the gift card would be 50. I decided not to quarrel over the 50...since I was already getting the discounted price...minus my Reward Zone certificate...minus the 55 buck gift card from Corporate...plus the bonus Reward Zone points I get as a Premier Silver member...AND 18 months interest free on my Best Buy card.

All in all, I was quite pleased, and the entire transaction...start to finish...took about 15 minutes, if that.

I'm going back to the store...They told me over the phone they will give me the other $50. :)

Another Premier Silver Member here, and I got this coupon book too. I thought I could do the same thing that you're thinking. Unfortunately, the fine print says MacBooks are excluded, among many other items. I don't know what else you could buy that will reach $250, $500 or $1k when they exclude many high-price items.

Great.. thanks for the info. I saw the coupon but didn't get a chance to read the fine print yet. I will try to get the discount others are talking about and the $100 GC. Anybody have any luck with BB's in the Orange County (Irvine, Tustin) area? Thanks...

Exactly...reward your loyal shoppers for buying stuff that they actually want and not junk that they don't need.

You folks mind if I ask why you shop at Best Buys? Is it just to get the
$100 card? Why not go with Apples site and get it through them...with none of the nonsense that BB provides.

It's been my experience that Best Buy is one of the worst places to shop at...very painful no matter what you want...second only to MaoMart.

I shop there for all my electronic purchases (unless substantial difference online), i am a silver member so 45 day returns plus reward points r gr8.

Also i pay no tax at best buy. And i have NEVER had a problem getting them to price match apple or anything like that. Than again if they ever did they would have a big problem since i spend a substantial amount with them and BB corporate would be informed a silver member wasn't priced match on a valid price match.

All my experiences have been great with the best buy's on Long Island.

The main reasons for me have been the rewards program and the coupons that I've been able to use for certain cameras and other electronics. Plus I'd rather get a $100 BB card then a $100 itunes/app store GC. Their service has been hit or miss.

Picked up a Base 13" Last night for $1099 OTD

Was the sale price of $1235 and they knocked another $35 for being a student and let me apply the $100 gift card right there.

Guess i just got lucky.

Not only what the others have already said, Best Buy currently have even lower prices than what Apple are offering for most of the new MBAs:

MC965LL/A - $1,234.99
MC966LL/A - $1,499.99
MC968LL/A - $949.99
MC969LL/A - $1,139.99

that's straight up horsesh*t given to you by that manager. i got mine with the discounted sale price, $100 gift card, AND the 18 month financing. speak to a different manager

Do you guys know if it will be possible to get the $100 gift card if I call them and order online? My store doesn't have any in stock yet, and I really would like to get one while they're on sale.

i doubt it since they are already having issues applying the SKU in-store. the manager who gave me my card said that it may have something to do with it being a new model.. but who knows. anyway, they have to manually enter some info in order for them to give you the card

The 3 BB I went to (2 in Delaware and 1 in King of Prussia) knew about the $100 GC before I even asked about it. The BB where I got mine applied the GC to my purchase with no hassle.

Which ones? I called concord pike (sold out) and Christiana (sold out too) but christiana said that the 100$ gift card was only good if I purchased the geek squad service or something. I've decided to just get it at the apple store in Christiana mall. Anything is better than PA tax

The one on Kirkwood highway in Wilmington. Make sure you ask by SKU number. BB employees are lazy and only look over their shoulder to check stock. Make sure they input the SKU into the computer to check stock.

For those that have used the 18 month no interest deal, how was your credit?

I'm looking to get an air the week school starts or earlier if possible. I have two jobs at my University but have absolutely no credit history other than the school loans. Did the credit report and came up with 1 loan in good standing [school] and no bad marks on my record but i've never had to make payments on anything except for a monthly data plan. Will probably have 700-800 saved up by the time I want to make the purchase.

I won't have the full amount saved up by then and I'd also like to start building my credit. Anyone have any advice on this?

Truthfully, I was so stoked to catch my MacBook Air 13" on the day their truck came in for a ~$70 discount they were running ($1234 I believe instead of $1299), that I didn't even argue when they said I did not get the educational GC.

She didn't even seem to know what it was. But she was super helpful on holding my item and taking payment over the phone.

Wait, so you don't have the Best Buy card yet and you want to apply for one? Is that what you mean? As long as you're in good standing and you have some sort of savings/checking account to put down on the application I don't see why you would be turned down. I'm 22 and when I applied for my card last year I had just started working and really didn't have very much money in the bank at all but was given a line of credit right away with no trouble. I had 2 credit cards and 3 student loans that I had been paying for 2 years so my credit history was far from extensive. My advice is to apply and see what they say. The worst they can do is say no and one inquiry isn't going to hurt your credit.

my credit last time i check was 750+. 3 years average length of my cards and loans. i have 3 credits cards, 1 personal card, 1 auto lease, and 1 paid off car loan. 22 yrs. old. Also i only use about 20-30% of my credit. Never paid late. Have 2 other corporate cards but they don't report to my credit bureaus unless i do something wrong.

So BestBuy's current sale price on the 13" 128gb model is $1,235??

I believe it ended last Saturday. The sale was for the old MBA originally but the sale overlapped the day they arrived at stores. The new ones were not out when I picked mine up, they had only 3 of them in the back fresh off a truck.

I had them hold one for me saturday that I picked up later that afternoon. They told me that the sale ended that night.

EDIT: My bad, sale did NOT end on Saturday and is still going this week \o/ Go buy your new MBA's, you'll not regret it!

I bought my MBA 2011 13" 128 from BB yesterday for $1235. It is the current sale price of the new MBA. This is my first Mac, and I love it!
