I'd like to pre-order one of the black, slim case models with the sound holes please. What do I need to do?

Just ordered my Silver Slant model! Super fast response on questions too! So far I'm very impressed and I don;t even have it yet, LOL.

updated website

I did a quick and dirty update to the website. I've added the Sound and Slant to the product page.

Someone just ordered one of the black Sound docks. I've got 4 left now in the latest batch. Get them while they last.

I might just make the sound holes standard from now on. Is there anyone out there that wouldn't want the holes in the side?

I pre-ordered my slim case black with the sound holes as well. Quick email response too. Let's help these guys out and spread the word.

Just another thumbs up for Dan and his company Made2Dock....

I was looking for a docking solution for a colorware painted 3Gs I had done and then installed a Bodyguardz full body film onto of. This makes it impossible to use any normal dock without ruining at least the protection film if not the paint as well. I came across Dan's dock late on Wednesday night, spoke on Thursday about changing the design, went over a few design details on Friday, he machined two for me over the weekend and sent out out, I should have them by Wednesday at the latest..... All absolutely wonderful when I only had couple weeks to work with before I needed to give the dock and the phone as a gift. So there you go, what is now called the "slant with sound ports" I guess.... not even from just concept to production - actually from the initial design problem to door step in under a weeks time. Combine that with the quality that others with some of his other docks have expressed and it's one product I know will be exactly what I was looking for. Now I pay for him to do up this program, so you can thank me for that, but I'll be honest, to have it made exactly to my specs is worth every dime and I'm absolutely sure we'll work on at least one other dock idea I have fairly soon.

Thanks again Dan!

Review

I have had my dock for 3 weeks now and I have zero complaints. The dock is well made and very high quality - not sure of the exact weight, but the thing is sturdy and heavy. Looks sharp next to any mac and complements the iPhone great!

I snapped a few photos without a case and with a couple different cases for reference. The version I chose was the slim, which is working out great.

Dan is doing a great job with these docks, and an even better job keeping up with all of our post and email requests. I am going to order a black "slant" with a component video cable (I may supply my own) for on top of my big screen. I'll probably order a black "slant" with composite and use it to connect with my Bose clock radio on the night stand.

What a great solution this is, and getting better every day!

Further Thoughts....

Dan O is a great person to deal with - it seemed as though I was his only customer and got undivided customer service. His email responses were prompt and to the point.

He even kept me updated when he made changes to the design that would further better the product. I am happy with the look and feel of the dock, really a nice piece of hardware.

I would recommend him and Made2Dock to any of my friends in a heartbeat!

The latest model...

It is another special order. Someone wanted a thinner dock, like SchneiderMan. He also wanted the front completely open, instead of a milled access slot. So this is what I came up with. I'll call it the dock-IN-case (slant). The angle allows full access to the front while still supporting the phone in the back. I don't have any available in black currently.

any pictures with the phone docked with this slanted model?

Review for my dock-IN-desk here

Includes some pics that show off how gorgeous this thing is in a black desk, as well as a video showing how the audio really isn't changed at all when the phone is docked.

My 3gs sound results were the same as yours as listed on page 2. I also tried it with my friends 3g it made his sound better and the same with my 2g. So I ordered a second one for my bedside.

updates

Thanks again to everyone for all the positive feedback.

Sorry it is taking a while to get better pictures of the new docking stations up on the website. I will try to get some decent pictures up soon. I'm currently working on getting some professional pictures of the products.

Yes, you can clear anodize aluminum. However it wouldn't accomplish much for this product. It might actually dull the look a little. Clear anodizing is usually performed on aluminum that is going in a corrosive environment or if the quality of the aluminum is not good. The aluminum that is used in these docking stations is aircraft quality, 6061-T6 aluminum. It is commonly used in aircraft wings and fuselages. So basically you can drop the dock off of a 10 story building and it will still work. It will have one serious dent, but it will still be in one piece.

mirror finish

I mean to get that apple aluminum look, is that possible?

If you are referring to the chrome-like finish, the answer is... maybe. If I were to throw the docks in a vibratory tumbler with a fine grit polishing media, the end result might be something similar. Its something I want to try at some point.

1. So what other products/ideas do you have in your pipeline?

2. For the in-desk dock, my desk doesn't have a wire hole, but I could drill one... what is the inset dimensions?

Answers

I think I get it now. You are referring to the 2G back of the iPhone. Yes that is what clear anodizing typically looks like. I personally don't like the look, so its something I don't plan on introducing.

The dock-IN-desk will fit any hole from 2.95" to 3.35" in diameter. It also ships with a strip of self-adhesive foam rubber that you can wrap around the base to remove any "slop" in the fit. I personally use it at home and love it.

I don't currently have any new design ideas. So far some of the best ideas have actually been generated by you guys. So keep them coming.

maybe try to make one that isnt round but much like the shape of the apple dock, it will still look great.

or add some lined design on the round version like circling around, i would imagine it being super easy for the machine..

I think adding some different cable options (for example, an RCA/USB connection for a stereo) would be cool. Or a slimmer travel version that just has a small rectangular surround like the original universal docks.

Sorry for not posting earlier, but I got the custom docks (now called the "slant") yesterday, not even a full week after originally contacting Dan and before coming up with a whole new design. I'd say that was fast.
