Sorry for not posting earlier, but I got the custom docks (now called the "slant") yesterday, not even a full week after originally contacting Dan and before coming up with a whole new design. I'd say that was fast.

Well, the one that I ordered 2 days ago hasn't shipped yet, which is...not so fast.

Not really thrilled my card was charged for an item that hasn't shipped yet.

Most companies charge you before they ship an item (or they at least put a hold on your card for the amount of the charge). Which one did your order anyway? Is it one of the ones with the sound holes?

Well, I know as a merchant unless I am special ordering an item I am not supposed to charge the card until the item ships. The item shipped today so I am not too peeved but typically one does not charge a card until an item is in the box and going out.

Yea yea, amazon always charges before they ship.. so does apple.

Well if you ordered one of the new "slant" models, I sure as hell hope it'll take you longer. Considering if was specially designed and made for me, I got the prototypes just yesterday. So not quite sure what you got or what you expect, but calm yourself down.

Otterbox?

I really love the Dock-in-Desk idea! What I'd like to know is:
1. Does it fit the Otterbox Defender case for iPhone 3G?
2. How is it possible for it to fit in different sized holes?

I ordered my second one on friday the 21st and received a letter from Dan saying my order is on back order and will ship on friday the 28th. I used paypal so I was billed at the time I ordered it not sure about google checkout. It will get to you and it will all be worth it. :D

I am waiting on more pics.
I would like to see an iPhone in the slant model at different angles.
Does the iPhone slant a little too or is it just the dock that slants?
Can't wait for these.
Dan is going such a GREAT job!:D

I am perfectly calm. Didn't mean to infringe on your special order, seeing as he put them up for sale to the public.

And it's shipped, so it's totally fine. I think you need to relax.

Questions

To answer a few questions:

1. Unfortunately we cannot control when your credit card is charged. We currently only offer Paypal and Google Checkout which basically require the funds to be withdrawn immediately. I would prefer that the charge be held until it ships also, but it is not an option for us.

2. There has been a delay in shipments lately for the black docking stations. The demand for them far exceeded our early projections and we stocked out. More were made as soon as possible and are now at the anodizer. I will be picking them tomorrow and hope to ship the late orders as soon as possible. Any order for a silver model will ship in 1 to 2 days. Please keep in mind that at this point the docks are made to order. These are not items that are mass produced in China and are now just sitting on a shelf in a warehouse.

3. The dock-IN-desk can accommodate different hole sizes because it ships with a self-adhesive strip of foam rubber that can be wrapped around the base to take up any slop in the hole.

4. The "oversized" pocket was designed for the Otterbox, however the dock-IN-desk isn't currently available in "oversized" because the very large pocket would cut into the base. A special can be made so that the "oversized" pocket can fit. The hole size would then need to be no smaller than 3.25".

5. Also keep in mind that we are a service oriented company. If you are not happy with the product in any, we will be happy to exchange it. Or you can return it for a full refund. We will always do everything within our power to make sure you are completely satisfied.

Any possibility of getting a black "slant" dock with no sound hole? For those of you who bought the slant dock, can you please post pictures when you get a chance?

Thanks!

Umm, ok so you're following the thread, you see the dock, you read it was for a special order and just got made, it was thrown up on the site, and you honestly complain about buying it two days prior and it still hadn't shipped?

I'm pretty sure although I was the only one that said it, everyone else was thinking you should calm down... and now I'm absolutely sure I was right at the time. Let me guess though, next week when it arrives I'm sure you'll be on here talking about what a piece of a junk the dock is and blah blah. I'm not saying I can see the future, I just want to call it before it happens.

After ordering my first dock I liked it so much that I ordered 2 more. 1 for my bedroom, 1 for the living room and 1 for my desk at work... Also this guy answers every email. I just cant see anyone ordering one of these docks and being disappointed...

I have a question about weight. When you dock with a case, perhaps an iSkin case, can you easily just pick it up off the dock without the dock coming up off the table (one handed)?

I don't think there is a heavier dock out there. It's easy to leave it on the table when you pick up your iPhone...

The fit is tight on the dock connector--which is how you want it. So I rest my hand on the dock and pull cleanly (with one hand).

btw my black dock just arrived. Dan, you are an artist.

very friggin heavy - along the same weight lines as my aluminum MB

Yeah I think I'm going to order one and as much as I long for the in desk one, I don't think I should drill through an ikea desktop that is likely made of paper and maybe wood. ;)

yes the dock will not move, its not like the plastic apple dock.

I have the innodock jr every time I use it I need to pick it up to connect it and I need hold it down to disconnect. With the made-2-dock it's solid as a rock it connects with ease no effort at all. Disconnecting is easy just lift the phone it also has a rubber pad on the bottom so it stays in place. I've had one for about two weeks and I love it more and more everyday...:D

Dock weight

The weight of the dock by itself is about 1 pound. I don't think you will find a heavier, more solid dock out there. But honestly how much effort it takes to pull the phone out of the dock depends on the cable color. The white cable is a tighter fit. Removing the phone with one hand takes a little practice but can easily be done. The black cable on the other hand is easier to remove with one hand. The weight of the dock itself is enough to keep it from moving.

As for the black Slant... I'm working on it. There have been numerous inquiries about it. We hope to have it ready in another week or two.

Thanks again for all the great comments!

Well, might want to get your crystal ball checked out-- it arrived just fine, today, and I like it.

Thanks for your concern though, I strongly suggest getting a hobby.

Dan,

Maybe you should put the weight on the specs of the dock on your site because that is truly impressive!

Extension Cable

For anyone that doesn't like the length of the dock cable, we now offer a 6ft extension USB cable on the website. It has been tested and is fully compatible with the iPhone.

We will also be offering extra AC power adapters very soon.
