Up (Touching story.)
Star Trek (Superb considering I hated all the previous Star Trek movies/TV shows. Loved that JJ Abrams removed the cheese factor from the series.)

But I also saw:

The Hangover (Hilarious)
Transformers 2 (Blah)
Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince (Great, but too short)
G.I. Joe (Blah)
Avatar (OK. Overrated.)
Wolverine (Fairly Good.)
Watchmen (Didn't like it at all.)

Just saw Sherlock Holmes and Inglorious Basterds this weekend. The former was very entertaining but not quite as good as I'd hoped, while the latter was far better than I'd imagined it would be. The only negative thing I can say about it was that Pitt's Tennessee accent was hilariously bad, but it actually added a little to the over-the-topness of the movie, so it worked.

So I think my top 5 (okay, six) of 2009 (with a few more to see) would be:

1. Inglorious Basterds
2. The Hangover
3. Star Trek
4. Sherlock Holmes
t5. Public Enemies
t5. The Reader

It's a close call between Star Trek and Watchmen for me.

I was kind of a Trekkie growing up (TNG and DS9 were where the goodness ended) so I was really excited about that one. Watchmen was amazing to me. I realize that a good majority found it "cheesy" or too long and I don't really see that at all. Rorschach made the movie for me.

Avatar was pretty awesome although I'm not sure it made it in my top five for the year.

(first post, btw)

HAving just seen this movie, and having read the book multiple times, Id have to say "The Road", even if it did make me feel like commiting suicide afterwards...

Rorschach made the movie for me.

Me too. I've read that there was talk of a prequel on Rorschach and Nite Owl, but that Alan Moore nixed it. That could have been greatness.

Great book, haven't caught the movie yet. Definitely on my list.

Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince
Blind Side (best feel good movie for sure)
Zombieland (loved it!!)
Star Trek was pretty good.

I haven't seen Avatar or Sherlock Holmes yet.

Avatar, definitely. It is amazing how much work went into producing this motion picture. I recommend you see it in 3D though.

Just caught Avatar last night and was blown away. While the story stole plenty from "white people are evil" movies like Dances With Wolves and The Last Samurai (and apparently from Ferngully, which I've never seen), the visual effects were stunning, the acting was better than expected and the 3D added WAY more to the experience than I'd thought possible.

So my top 5 of 2009 is now:

1. Avatar
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. The Hangover
4. Star Trek
5. Sherlock Holmes

in '09 & in no particular order:

Inglourious Basterds (Tarantino, come on. We watch his films FOR the dialogue)
Avatar (visually stunning, good cast, nice story)
Up In The Air (great #@!%ing film)
Adventureland (my generation's tribute to The Breakfast Club)
Watchmen (read the novel before seeing the film)
Zombieland (always obey The Rules of Zombieland, and Woody!!)
Whip It! (just good clean Indie fun)
(500) Days Of Summer (i can relate)
Coraline (see Nightmare Before Christmas)
Star Trek (i liked it. lol)
The Fantastic Mr. Fox (wes ANDERSON bay-be)

For me it was probably Up and Avatar in no particular order. I've found all Pixar movies to be really good and Avatar was very well executed with an interesting concept (even if the plot line was predictable).

I'd personally say that the movie I enjoyed the most seeing was Avatar, followed by Up and Inglorious Basterds.

Inglorious Basterds
Moon
Zombieland

And Transformers 2 was the worst movie I have seen last year.

Bruno. :D

Maybe Avatar and Zombieland ( hilarious! ) . . . and as the above poster said, no Transformers 2 for me. The sequel sucked big time.

I watched a lot of films this year.
In no particular order:

Films that I loved:
Inglorious Basterds
Up In The Air (probably my favourite)
The Hurt Locker
District 9
Sherlock Holmes

Films that were 'meh':
Star Trek
Zombieland - almost made it onto the 'loved' list.
Avatar - the lame plot ruined it for me.
Public Enemies - also almost made it to the 'loved' list.
Wolverine
GI Joe
Up
The Final Destination

Films that let me down:
Bruno - shockingly bad. Should have stuck on Borat and left it there.
Transformers 2 - good for a laugh, but I wouldn't call it a 'great movie'.
The Hangover - trailer looked good, the movie itself seemed pretty lame to be honest.

When I think of films from 2009 the one to come to mind first will probably be Inglorious Basterds
