Didn't go to a single movie this year.

Looking forward to Dr. Parnassus on the 25th though. I loves me some Terry Gilliam.

And then, next year, Tron Legacy. Woohoo!

On edit: forgot about Clash of the Titans. I love the original, all of its cheesy goodness. We'll see how the remake does.

I only saw Up a couple of weeks ago but it's still knocking around my head.
It was the best film I've seen in a while. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful, hilarious and just perfect :) Loved it in a way I haven't loved anything for a while.

Star Trek was probably my other favourite for the year. And (please don't judge me) I had a lot of fun when I saw New Moon. Mainly 'cause the audience was pretty fun and would laugh when it got over the top.

I was disappointed by:

The Hangover - I don't get how anyone finds this funny. My ex thought it was hilarious; I thought it went too far into the ridiculous and made the mistake of putting all the geniunely funny moments into the trailer.
Bruno - Godawful. Big disappointment since I laughed myself silly when I saw Borat.
Harry Potter - Everything written just for the film was funny, everything from the book ie. the plot was shortened too much
Let The Right One In - Shame since I liked the book, but the film just didn't appeal. Too slow and it cut out too much of the sad side stories in the book.

agreed about let the right one in. i don't know why its such a huge blogger favourite. same with the hangover! not funny at all.

i rarely see new movies but star trek was a complete surprise hit for me.

Thirst:

Another amazing, immersive and enthralling Chan-Wook Park film.

I would love to see a twilight fan watch this. :)

On the subject of vampire movies, how about Let the Right One In? I know it's technically a 2008 movie but I didn't get to see it until 2009. Fantastic and incredibly original.

Too bad they're going to remake and ruin it.

Am I the only one who thinks the movies released in 2009 were pretty weak? Sure there are funny ones and a couple dramatic ones but nothing to me blew me away across the board. I did love Inglorious B. I liked Star Trek but seriously there are no obvious best picture flicks for the year to me.

There were lots of good-but-not-great movies in 2009. Among them:

  • The Reader
  • Taken
  • Watchmen
  • Star Trek
  • The Proposal (I thought it was going to be terrible but it was actually quite funny)
  • Public Enemies
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • The Hangover

2009 movies I haven't seen yet (or come out in the next couple of weeks) but that could be great:

  • Inglorious Basterds
  • Moon
  • 9
  • A Serious Man
  • Zombieland
  • An Education
  • The Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • The Road
  • Up in the Air
  • Crazy Heart
  • The Lovely Bones
  • Avatar
  • The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
  • Sherlock Holmes

Taken was already released 2008 ;)
but great movie ... i went in expecting some sort of drama, i sure didn't expect_that_

oh yeah quite a few more i have seen:

9: wasn't that great, barely OK
Public Enemies: greatly made but not much in terms standing out of the crowd, great art direction/cinematagrophy, we have seen better from Depp/Bale
Terminator: utterly predictable and apart of effects (helicopter scene) not too great, dissapointing
UP: on thin line between funny, sad, and heart warming . quite good but not on the level of Finding nemo or Monsters Inc., but the talking dog was superb

I loved that too, and I want to see Thirst.

Nothing I saw this year really stood out (I may've laughed... once? at Hangover) besides Paranormal Activity. I know it's been around for awhile but it wasn't released in my town until a month ago, and I enjoyed it immensely. I found it terrifying.
And stay away from The Box. What even happened in that movie?

I just realized I haven't seen any 2009 movies. I guess I shouldn't enter the annual Mac Rumors Oscars contest this time.

^ Very funny.

Saw_VI_Poster.jpg

^ The story got boring, but managed to still do well thanks to a good dose of gore.

The_book_of_love.jpg

^ A classic. It just won't die. (I live in Italy, strangely it got here since the beginning of December)

I also saw Jennifer's body. It was decent. Would've been better with more sex. What a waste of Megan Fox.

Can't wait for Scary Movie 5. Looking forward to watch Avatar.
Oh, and Transformers 2 sucked. Was about an hour too long = an hour of total boredness.

Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds both lived up to my expectations. Adventureland exceeded them, so that's my favourite so far this year.

No, I'm pretty much inclined to agree. I had high hopes for Moon, but it left me disappointed. I thought Jeremy Renner was great in The Hurt Locker but that it ultimately suffered from some script and pacing issues. I haven't seen The Fantastic Mr. Fox yet, and I tend to be a Wes Anderson fan, but I'm not super optimistic. In all honesty, the movie I enjoyed the most this year was Cloudy With a Change of Meatballs.

I agree. Most of the popular movies this year didn't seem that good to me. I loved Inglorious Bastards though.

i really enjoyed I love you, man. Kind of crude at times for my liking but I liked the concept and idea behind the movie.
