*I dont have too many rock songs from a while back but i like a few intros.. Because i tend to listen to newer rock/alternative more.

1. Purple Haze-->Jimi Hendrix( i dont know if i missed it but i dont think anyone mentioned this one yet)
2.Hells Bells--> AC/DC
3.Thunderstruck--> AC/DC
4. Back in Black--> AC/DC
5.Layla->Eric Clapton
6. Crazy Train--> Ozzy

"Baba O'Riley", The Who
"Money", Pink Floyd
"Fire On High", Electric Light Orchestra
"A Hard Day's Night", The Beatles
"Tomorrow Never Knows", The Beatles

Now I think about it, and after reading most of the posts here, there are a hell of a lot of outstanding intros to classic rock songs.

If we include songs with vocals included in the intros then without a doubt the winners have to be Queen. What with 'Bicycle Race', 'Flash', 'Radio Ga Ga', 'We are the Champions', 'Bohemian Rapsidy', 'Anotherone Bites the Dust' (my favourite Queen song by the way), 'We Will Rock You' and too many others to single out.

I must say thre are not many people out there who cannot recognize a Queen song from their intros....

Sorry for the double post but I though Fleetweed Mac's 'Tusk' deserved a mention but is too good to be added as an edit to the Queen comments above...

one of my personal favorite Queen intro has to be Death on Two Legs...

Van Halen - Little Guitars, from Diver Down - the main riff is crazy too.

Radio Radio - Evlis Costello

Herion - Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground

Parlament Give up the Funk "tear the Roof of the Mutha' Sucka''"

Since I've been loving you - Led Zeppelin

perhaps one of the best intros, followed later in the song by (definitely) the best guitar solo ever...
