I am using Transmission at the moment. Very nice little client...however. Dopes anyone know if you can stop the pop up messages when downloads finish etc? I have to keep torrenting very discrete on my Mac (ahem ;)) and I don't want that popping up when someone is looking at my screen.

you referring to growl notifications?

if so its in sys prefs-growl

I've always used Transmission but lately, well just today, it won't download any of the torrents I open. It says "tracker request failed". I've heard that the latest build fixes this (R7157; not included in the 1.4 dl) so I'm going to install it when the one torrent I have working finishes.

I just downloaded Tomato Torrent and love it. Simple and easy to use... not a problem with it yet.

I am having the same problem. Will have to download the update ten...or maybe try tomato as that seems to be the next most recommended app.

Cheers to numlock also...it was growl notifications.

+1 for Transmission.

I'm a heavy Japanese anime downloader, so I download multi-file torrents all the time. I also hate Azuerus/VUZE. They're more bloated than some OSes can be (literally).

For some torrents though, I can't get them to connect to enough peers, so I run uTorrent via Darwine and/or Crossover.

Also, I've been lucky enough to try out the uTorrent for Mac beta, and without saying too much, it still needs a lot of work.

thanks for the comments I really appreciate it. What I meant before was that I had OS X Panther downloaded to my ibook but I had to reset it cause I gave the computer away but when I got it back nothing was working and It was acting aweful slow and the software that I bought for it I no longer have it. I sold it cause I didn't need it anymore but now I'm stuck with OS X 10.2.8 and I loved it when it was upgraded but don't want to spend the money again for the software that it had before. I'm gonna try to see if I can use Transmission since everybody is talking about it

If you're asking where to "download" a newer version of Mac OS X for your iBook, then we can't help you with that. We do not condone piracy. How we can help, is by asking what model iBook do you have? If you have a 2001-2002 (500/600MHz) model then the highest Mac OS X you go install on it is Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard will not install on a G3. If you look on second hand stores online (eBay.com and smalldog.com, to name a few) you might be able to find a copy of Panther or Tiger for your iBook. I can't quote a price though. If you don't see it listed, give them a call.

About the only issue I find with any of these clients OTHER than Azureus is the lack of encryption.
Encryption is a must have have with companies like Comcast now blocking torrent traffic. So the only program that gets my vote is Azureus/Bittyrant.

Really? I'm on Comcast now, and I'm torrenting just fine without being blocked or need to be encrypted. I'm using port 7000, so if you're using the protocol standard ports of 6881-6890, you might want to change that. = )

When I damaged my original OS 10.4 install DVD, it would not mount for install on new partition, which would have been updated to 10.4.11 with combo installer I had downloaded from Apple for original partition.
The Apple Store does not sell OS 10.4 now, and I did not want to buy someone else's problems by buying used DVD on eBay etc.
I called Apple at (800) 676-2775, and explained to tech named Lee, who sold me a new DVD for $16.00, and gave me a case number to track shipment.
My original DVD version 10.4 2Z691-5305-A is black.
The new one is white with 'Replacement DVD Not for Resale' stamped on it.
Perhaps you should just do the same to get your iBook back up to speed. :)

That's good advice there, but allow me to bring this thread back on topic:

For those of you lucky enough to have signed up for the uTorrent for Mac beta, well they released it to the testers like myself, and it's pretty spiffy. Check it out if you got the email about it's availability. (I had the beta before, but it was a leakt private build from a torrent site, but this one is legit.)

uTorrent Mac beta is released!!! Go get it while its hot

Still beta though, so it will handle most normal torrent download, if you want selective download and smaller app size guess we need to wait for awhile :D

...Did you not read what I wrote up top? Yes µTorrent/Mac beta is available, but it's really only available for people that sign up at their Mac beta page. I signed up ages ago, and I finally got my copy, but it's not out for anyone and everyone yet.

What if you "torrent" uTorrent for Mac using Transmission.:D

HA! I found away around the system.
That's just like how when LimeWire was at it's high point people would always use LimeWire to download LimeWire Pro.

I'm gonna throw my vote behind Vuze (formeley Azures)

Really nice UI, works well and I've never had a problem with it. In fact, the Mac version seems to run better than the PC one.

torrent clients are content agnostic. The best osx torrent client for downloading stuff is utorrent because it is lightweight if you want to download music you need to find a tracker that hosts music torrents. If you really want a light weight client you can compile rtorrent.

hmmmm...that IS interesting!!!!

So far i have been using transmission without any problems at all. I won't change it until it breaks down or for some "unknown" reason it stops working all together!

:apple:

I can't get utorrent to mount. It dl's, but I can't open it. It keeps coming up with the utorrent->applications folder.

limewire is the worst, only good for songs.you could use utorrent for mac,if you can track down the beta.i use transmission myself, thats when i do torrents. rapidshare is way better and its always faster cause you dont have to wait for people to seed, when you download you get it fast cause it maxes out ur internet connection unless you adjust it.

like if i found a rare movie i was lookn for on torrent id have to wait days just to get it cause it might only have 1 seeder etc.but in rapidshare id have that in about 15 minutes depending on if its sd or hd.

I know utorrent is good and all on windows but why is everyone using in its beta stage on osx? theres going to be errors at least wait until its first official release...

Transmission stopped connecting to peers even though it had found over 600. Downloaded uTorrent for same torrent, and it started downloading immediately.

I tried utorrent for mac and I can't find any reason why it would be better than transmission. It used more cpu and seemed to have a lot of graphics bugs!

Another vote for Transmission! I love how basic it is.... I gave Vuze a shot the other day, but didn't really like it.
