iOS was silky smooth back in 2007, using far, far lesser specs than we have now. Google have no focus and no taste. You don't need some awkwardly named "project" to make something you should have done right from the outset, right (and it still lags!) - you don't make a public show of fixing your messed up OS issues, you make VERY sure they are fixed properly in the first place, and if they're not, then FIX them and don't sing about it to everyone.

Ok? Google is way better at services and functionality and Apple is better at design. Now Google has really improved in design and Apple is still lagging in services. I guess based on your standards, Apple has no focus either when it comes to cloud services and functionality. Both companies have their strengths, but to say something should of been done from the outset makes little sense to me. Neither Android nor iOS was perfect to begin with and now both companies are working on improving.

Google are a joke - noone uses Java... sorry, "Dalvik" to run a modern OS :D :D

I'm sorry but you lost any credibility with that statement. To say Google is a joke and no one would use the programming language that Android uses on a modern OS is laughable.

Good thing I'm not seeking credibility from a stranger, hey! :)

Do you understand the inner workings of operating systems? You can't do, otherwise you'd know that Apple have a VAST and wide breadth of BSD and "Core" frameworks which they have been refining and refining since the 1990s and the "NeXT" OS, then onward right through Mac OS X, through to iPhone release in 2007, to draw upon for iOS - BSD binaries which are pre-compiled, not translated and run in a virtual machine, such as the case with Java, ergo Android (Dalvik) which was "invented" just for Android, just a few years ago...

I don't mean to be rude, but your comments come across as too uninformed to be credible - Java is slower than pre-compile binaries. If you're commenting on this, make sure you know the finer details, at least.

lol.. talk about digressing, how did we get on a Java blows rant? Haha..

He's totally right, of course, by definition Java is less performant as a language in comparison. Besides being a giant pia to code. :p There are a few languages on the short list that I avoid like the plague, Java is one.

Oh god, don't even get me started on eclipse.. :p

While I prefer Sublime Text for most tasks, the Xcode 5 dp is really nice. I'm looking forward to playing with it more.

Nice. Just for reference, I have a BS in Computer Science and I have been a software developer for 15 years. But thanks for explaining how Java and the Davlik VM works. Because I totally wouldn't have understood without your help.

I never said code that runs using a JIT compiler wasn't slower. However, with modern mobile processors, the speed issues are rarely caused by the JIT compiler. The smoothness difference in iOS and Android has almost nothing to do with how the apps are run. It is more about how efficient the OS is written.

But calling Google a joke because they use Java for app development with their Davlik VM is very uninformed.

I am sorry if I came across as snotty; you did too, but that's a poor excuse, so I am sorry. iOS is smoother for many reasons, the main possibly being "protected threads".

Woah. Okay. First off, I don't have iOS 7 on my phone. I have no intention of installing it until it's a public release that should work.

With that in mind, my opening statement was certainly nothing to do with me wanting to maintain any sense of entitlement, exclusivity or keep it 'precious'.

I just think half the people reading these forums don't actually know their arse from their elbow, and as a result expect a v1 beta release to work perfectly on their three year old handset, and when it doesn't they kick up a fuss like it's the end of the world.

This was simply about protecting stupid people from the World, because let's face it, sometimes they need it.
