I'm psyched for the update to the iPod touch. The last update was just meh. It hasn't seen a REAL update in like...FOREVER.

I like that it will be getting a faster chip and gps. I hope the rumor of a better camera is true too, cause the current camera SUCKS for the lack of a better word. Seriously. Half a mega pixel? Puh-lease. Slap a decent camera in there, and I'll be good to go. At least 5 megapixels....but I'd love to see 8....especially if the iPhone 5 gets an improved camera.

I want to use the iPod touch as a VOIP device instead of a smartphone. Even tho I can afford it, I refuse to be held prisoner by the greedy telecom companies with their outrageous data/voice/text plans. Enough is enough.

I travel alot, and most of the countries I visit have wifi coverage enabling free VoIP calls. Plus the city I live in in the states, NYC has tons of free wifi hotspots. So it's easy to send and receive free calls and texts.

Anyway...I am looking forward to this update. :)

I'm extremely fed up with my iPT4. If the iPT5 doesn't have a GOOD camera and at least 1GB of RAM, I'll probably not buy it.

And by good camera, I mean at least what the iPhone 4 had. I don't even want it for use as a dedicated camera (I've got my D7000 for that), just for the occasional on-the-go pictures. The <1MP current camera is horrible for pictures.

I'm already not sure if I'd even buy the new one because of the new dock connector. I already have multiple rather expensive accessories based on the old connector, if there's no adapter from new to old then I'll have to reconsider getting a new iPod, because I really don't want to ditch my accessories.

MacRumors folks seem to put their trust and faith in :apple: when it comes to RAM. I've read through 2 threads here that were a total of 12 pages long and 4 posts on RAM were found, 2 being mine. RAM is hugely, HUGELY important in any computer. The iPod Touch falls into this category(computer). The iPod Touch 4, even though I really like it, was crippled with not enough RAM(256MB).

I would absolutely go berzerk(not really :D) if they didn't upgrade from 256 to 512 but you're right the RAM should be 1GB.

Anyway, as much as I bitched and moaned about my iPT4. It was really cool to have that device in my pocket. It really sucked to only view one or two web pages at a time without having to reload them whenever I go back to reference them. And as you know, the Touch doesn't have an i7 CPU so loading a webpage isn't instantaneous, ie it takes 30 seconds to a minute. This every time I want to look at another webpage that I have previously loaded. This should take 1/2 second but it takes up to a minute. The answer to this riddle is RAM. Too Little RAM.

Tired of typing.

Enjoy your new iPods.

Thanks.

Yeah, I've even had my touch 4 lock up for a minute or two as it's dinky CPU is struggling to render a complex page (and that of course with a stripped down web browser!)

256MB is just not remotely enough...it can't even handle doing a podcast in the background very well. Should have been 512MB TWO YEARS AGO when it launched. Should be a minimum of 1GB now...but I bet it's 512, but hey, that's still fantastic compared to 256!

The CPU has little to do with load times, that's almost completely dictated by your internet speed with devices such as the iPod Touch. It may be wimpy in the RAM department, but pages load quickly for me (until Safari crashes, but that's a different issue).

Nope-put an iPod touch...or heck, an iPad 2 on the same network right next to a PC. The iOS device will be bajillions of times slower, not even counting the interface slowness/lack of real multitasking, etc. The problem is the crazy slow hardware. I mean the iPod touch 4 is basically running a Pentium 1.

Darn. I didn't get one of the magical iPods that you got. Mine has to obey the laws of physics.

A P1 with LOW RAM.
