I'd be interested to know whether the iPod Touch will be getting an IPS screen rather than a TN panel. Other things the iPod Touch has lacked vs the iPhone is a digital compass and an oleophobic coating on the screen both of which the iPad has.

Ah now this is more like it! :) looks like as well as a new iPhone 5 for me, the kids may get new iPod touches! Lol looking forward to later :)

If they do indeed come out with extra colors, I think that will be a good thing. Many folks often wish for more than black or white. Also, if they do, folks will undoubtedly want more colors for the iPhone/iPad as well.

I doubt they can make it even thinner and then add a 5 megapixel camera. I defiantly think this is fake.

Yeah, and the iPod Touch is already very thin anyway. Maybe I'm just used to my 4S, but whenever I pick up a Touch in the store out of curiosity, I always feel like it's really, really thin.

And in the UK, but the notification "label" is slightly wonky - this indicates the new iPhone 5 will have a wonky screen!! ;)

Thank Christ - I genuinely thought I was going mental. I'm sat at work tilting my head this way and that, trying to work out if it's just my eyes. Glad to know I'm not the only one who spotted it.

So I guess this is the controller they will be using for the new apple TV Games?

I really hope not as an Apple TV game console needs buttons and using a touch/iphone as the controller does not give you the tactical feel needed for tv gaming.

What is the market for this?

I can understand a straight up iPod for just music/podcasts- but isn't the touch basically just the iPhone without the phone?

enjoy

These damn analysts are so annoying. They just rehash existing rumors or throw stuff at a dartboard hoping something sticks. Just $TFU and go crunch numbers in your little cubicle or something.

I hate when sites post information from analysts. They don't have any more information than we do. They're just paid to guess; we do it for free.

If they do come out in various colors - that's one more "trade dress" notch in Apple's lawsuit cap.

Yes. That is the market. People who want an iPhone but don't want a $2000 contract (or kids whose parents don't want them to have a cell phone).

While I'd love to see a major upgrade to the Touch that included all of these items, I have a hard time understanding why they would add GPS...

Without GPS, you can still get a fairly accurate location via WiFi. But without a cell connection, GPS won't be very helpful for maps when you're out on the road. I understand that the new maps option is vector-based and offers better caching than the rasterized Google Maps, but still. Does the new maps option cache a large enough area for this to be useful? Without that, GPS and no cell wouldn't be useful enough on its own.

Mainly cost. They are half the price of iPhones.

all the "iPhone 5" mock up are referring to this new iPod touch (finger crossed)

I Hate Apple!!! Every single time I get within about $50 of getting my dream headphones, apple comes along and releases a product a cant resist spending ALL of my money on!!! Last time it was the iPad 2!

GPS has been something I've wanted on the Touch since day one. Credit card is in hand :apple:

GPS + turn by turn navigation + downloadable maps would be terrific (except for TomTom and their competitors).

TomTom's complete Western Europe maps for example are just a few hundred megabyte. That's large enough for most people where I live. For USA, they sell five sets of about 300 MB each covering the whole of the USA.
