I disagree with most comments on here saying Microsoft apps are optimised more on ios.

He probably ownes a Samsung device as samsung and Microsoft are partners and Microsoft software is baked in to sansung one ui, similar to ios and mac.

Bill really needs to go back to writing compilers and stay out of politics, medical remedies, and other non Tech related areas. No surprise about a comment from him as to his slanted view of Apple. Just fade away Bill!!!!!!!!!

doesn't even make sense.

  • Set Bing as default search engine? - no problem
  • Make Outlook default e-mail app? - no problem
  • Make mobile edge (is that a thing?) default browser? - no problem
  • Integrate one drive? - no problem
I would say the Office Apps are also far better optimised and integrated on iOS than Android.

Clearly he is just too lazy or hasn't used an iPhone much
Those are simple changes. I suspect he is referring the "Your Phone" integration between Samsung and Windows.
  • Run Android apps on Windows
  • Run multiple Android apps
  • Make/receive calls from Windows through your phone.
  • Seamless copy/paste (such as photos) from phone to Windows
  • Integrated messaging
  • Integrated notifications
And yes, the Mobile Edge browser is a thing and works very well and naturally integrates with Edge for Windows which is faster and more efficient than Chrome.
OneDrive has a tighter integration on Samsung phones than "regular" Android phones. It's so baked in, it's part of the OS and works well.

While Microsoft has tried to bring much of this to iPhone, it's a constant fight to break the walled-garden of Apple where as Samsung partnered with Microsoft.

Funny, I also use my phone because of the default apps that come with it. Especially the fact I know it won't come with 3rd party junk installed on it! Don't some android phones come with Facebook that you can't easily uninstall? Sounds fun!

So Gates views are stupid because you have been able to change defaults on iOS for three months?
Well, he is the one that said he keeps track of the platforms and has some ios devices kicking around. It was a fairly prominent feature and in all the "what's new" reviews if he really is staying informed.

3 months is not a long time and a casual user that doesn't "keep track" of stuff probably wouldn't know anything changed, to be frank.

p.s. was OP actually calling his views "stupid" or just saying they didn't think the comment lined up with their own understanding.

Do we think Bill Gates uses his phone like everyone else?

I doubt that. Bill Gates does indeed have a notes app and a calendar app and a news reader app—it’s called the assistant who follows him around wherever he goes.

Username and profile photo checks out.

It's true, I value Jean Luc's opinion more than Bill Gates'

His point makes sense. iOS 14 has improved it a lot, but if you don't like Apple's software ecosystem, it's still a bit easier to use a different one on Android. There's still a lot of little things, like not being able to change the in-app browser (still forced Safari regardless of what you pick) or awkward 3rd party file hosting integration (in app file pickers usually don't support them and only show local + iCloud photos). Also Windows 10 has great integration with Android, while iOS is locked to MacOS only. Hopefully Apple will improve all of those things!

*YAWN* The co-founder of Apple's once biggest competition craps on Apple's iPhone.

Given that Microsoft lost the portable music, AND phone market to Apple (and others), I don't know why someone would be surprised that he wouldn't be a fan of the iPhone. I'd actually be surprised if he DID support them. It would take a 'bigger man' than him to embrace his once competitor.

I don’t know even if he uses Office apps. The guy reads like 7 books a day and gives 3 interviews a week. Probably only has time for email and SMS and an assistant does everything else. Assistant probably playing his Xbox too 😝

Q has been very good at propelling Gates back into the limelight, or maybe spotlight is more appropriate. One thing that surprised me early on was the number of people that would literally suffer with inferior MP3 players and refuse to even consider the possibility of getting an iPod. Weird. The neo-Luddite desire to wallow in inadequacy all to 'prove' that the superior tech was somehow inferior. It's like beating yourself int he head with a hammer to make the pain lower in the future. The hate of Apple runs deep in many people, which is rather interesting. Not saying they don't deserve some of it...
