I might be in minority to some extent, but I loved Windows Mobile’s tile based desktop, as well as fact how smoothly it ran on 512Mb of RAM! And its a pitty that they failed and took original Nokia with them, loved the design language from Nokia N8 that went on to live in various Lumia models, latest being 730/735, loved its replaceable shell, design, display and camera. My Galaxy S5 Neo that cost twice as much and had overall positive reviews had camera that couldnt imho match that of 735.
Eh, nostalgia...
I do hope that some day current Nokia brings back design inspired by older Lumias that carried that N8 era design language.

Some people seem to forget that without Bill Gates Apple would not be here today. In 1997 when Apple was days away from bankruptcy Bill Gates stepped in and invested millions of dollars in Apple to help them survive.

Bill Gates himself has dedicated his life and his fortune to saving poor people in the third world with life saving vaccinations against HIV and Malaria. He has quite literally saved millions of lives.
Bill owed Apple a lot because he blatantly ripped off the Mac and backstabbed Steve, even though they were major partners. Bill knew it and so he went and "helped" Apple. Yeah, great. And it was not like Bill stepped in. Steve approached him, it was a deal and not charity. Just because Bill looks like nerd it doesn't mean he's a good guy.

Don't get me started on Bill and his philanthropy. He also wants other people to chew fake meat while he goes and enjoy his cheeseburgers. And what about the hypocrisy with his nonsense about the climate change. He hurts the world more than you or I do in a year and he still lectures the world on how to be more gentle to the climate. He's a crook.

doesn't even make sense.

  • Set Bing as default search engine? - no problem
  • Make Outlook default e-mail app? - no problem
  • Make mobile edge (is that a thing?) default browser? - no problem
  • Integrate one drive? - no problem
I would say the Office Apps are also far better optimised and integrated on iOS than Android.

Clearly he is just too lazy or hasn't used an iPhone much
Or clearly you didn't take account of ALL of his reasons........

Umm, no! You clearly have not used office on a new Android device.

Funny how all you apple users are making excuses, you ever think he just thinks Android is just better like the rest of the population. (more features, more flexibility) (and for those who say Android is buggy, try using a new device)

I used to despise everything Bill Gates did and stood for when he was running MS, as well as most MS products (and I still hate most of their products). But I have to admit that I now have deep respect for everything he's been doing since. Great great philanthropy work. Hats off Monsieur Gates.

And it's ok if he doesn't use an iPhone or didn't get along well with Steve Jobs.
Actually I think Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had a lot of respect and admiration for each other. It’s hard to be friends with your competitor but I think privately there was a friendship there.

I wonder if Bill thinks it's OK that Windows 10 keeps trying to make Edge not only your default browser, but also your default PDF viewer. Yuck.

For security conscious it makes perfect sense to open PDFs that have been a significant threat vector in sandboxed browser tab. Plus if you're on a device with pen input Edge has PDF markup otherwise switch to a different browser like Chrome, Firefox, etc.

Not being able to pull Internet Explorer cleanly out of Windows, even now that we are on Windows 10 and Edge 2.0.

Fix that, Bill! I know you're not the CEO anymore, but could you please put a word in for the peasants out here?!

I don’t know about other manufacturers, but clearly he’s being a businessman, marketing Samsung for its partnership with Microsoft, preinstalling some Microsoft apps into their flavour of Android. Ultimately, he’s still selling Microsoft (and Samsung), under the guise of “candid talk”.

I’m perplexed that a lot people seem offended by Gates preference of mobile OS. Does it really even matter to you?

he's a smart guy, no question, but he's also made some whacky comments over the past year or so, stepping outside of the technology space, which is fine as everyone is entitled to their opinions ... as for which phone he prefers, I can care less ...

He is saying he is a boomer and wants it to come preinstalled because he doesn’t know how to do those things. However the whole thing is silly - I very much doubt he ever sets up his own phone. The people who take care of him probably have people that set up their phones much less his.

TBH, if you reside in a Microsoft-only world, why bother with a system that requires you to have additional accounts?
An Android phone can be used without a Google account on it, try using an iPhone without an AppleID... oh, you can't even get into the bloody phone without it!

If I understand you correctly.. signing into one single solitary account (Apple ID), which takes all of 10 seconds... is less bothersome than every single year when you buy a new phone having to re-set up all your contacts, preferences, apps, everything from scratch? (As opposed to spending that 10 seconds to logging in from the new iPhone, and everything automatically syncs over the cloud)

Good for him and chooses what is most suitable for his needs.

Since he keeps up with iOS to see what’s going on, he’s evaluated both platforms and chosen according. Unlike quite a few others who have never touched Android and speak like they are Android experts!

What’s this got to do with anything? Bill Gates doesn’t have any day to day influence at Microsoft anymore.

You obviously didn't read the memo about the M$ and Samsung partnership.

I chose Mac and iOS becasue there is NO preinstalled software.

Besides, most preinstalled stuff is crap.
