Bill really needs to go back to writing compilers and stay out of politics, medical remedies, and other non Tech related areas. No surprise about a comment from him as to his slanted view of Apple. Just fade away Bill!!!!!!!!!
Yikes this is really your answer after his work in Africa and all the medical research he funded? Just because he happens to disagree with you on phones?

Not a good look. Same goes to everyone in here who’s just going the namecalling route, calling him rat-haired, wishing ill upon him. All because he buys his phones from Corporation B. What is wrong with you people

Most of the criticisms here are likely people that haven't used a Samsung device made in the last couple of years. The integration with Microsoft is top notch, the Phone Link app is especially awesome and something I miss when using an iPhone since I'm all Windows on my computers. You can literally control your phone from your computer (including making calls) as long as your phone has data, and it works really well.

Plus, he clarified with this, "So that's what I ended up getting used to."

Guess what, he has bigger and better things that he and his wife are contributing to in the world, so he doesn't care about platforms. Like most of the world, he likes whatever he gets used to and doesn't want to mess with getting used to something new to him.

Tell me you like bloatware and useless apps on your phone you can't really get rid of, without telling me you like bloatware and useless apps on your phone you can't get rid of.

Lol I mostly Agree with you but I guess Maybe to be fair, he did say it was the one he got use to and since apple wasn’t always this liberal, he probably went with android and just stuck there like most people do with their respective phone choice. What that means though is that as you said, he’s too lazy to give the iPhone a fair shake even though he said he’s played with them a bit.
Was thinking the same thing. Plus this interview probably took place before or shortly after these updates made it all possible.

I don’t know even if he uses Office apps. The guy reads like 7 books a day and gives 3 interviews a week. Probably only has time for email and SMS and an assistant does everything else. Assistant probably playing his Xbox too 😝
I don't know how people in these positions put the pretense out there that they do all that they say they do. With only two kids it takes me about 3 months to read a book.

this guy is so not relevant, better to publish some quotes from Satya
Watch out. He's in the news at least once a week if not more. He's an expert on technology, medicine, viruses, and climate. There is nothing this guy can't do.*

*In his own mind.

Perhaps Bill listens to podcasts. This would make a lot of sense, since Apples built-in podcasts app has beed continuously redesigned over the years to make it less and less intuitive, functional, operable or useful.

Clearly no one at Apple actually uses it, or they'd have long since fired the designers who are responsible for that mess.

I used to despise everything Bill Gates did and stood for when he was running MS, as well as most MS products (and I still hate most of their products). But I have to admit that I now have deep respect for everything he's been doing since. Great great philanthropy work. Hats off Monsieur Gates.

And it's ok if he doesn't use an iPhone or didn't get along well with Steve Jobs.

Silly question. People like Bill Gates doesn’t bother with this stuff, they have people handling his schedules, calls, email, etc, things that pheasants use smartphones for.

Microsoft under Nadella is much better off than it was when it was under Ballmer who's a mindless clown like Cook. Instead of fighting Android, Microsoft now embraces and integrates with Android so Gates is right. For someone tech savvy like Gates I can understand that iOS might feel a little too restrictive (lack of freedom) and watered down having used both.

I used to like Bill Gates and have tremendous respect for his accomplishments with Microsoft.

Lately, the more he talks, the more I lose respect for him. He seems a little nutty, pushy with his ideology, has hypocritical tendencies, and what he said about Android iPhone VS Android doesn’t even make much sense.

doesn't even make sense.

  • Set Bing as default search engine? - no problem
  • Make Outlook default e-mail app? - no problem
  • Make mobile edge (is that a thing?) default browser? - no problem
  • Integrate one drive? - no problem
I would say the Office Apps are also far better optimised and integrated on iOS than Android.

Clearly he is just too lazy or hasn't used an iPhone much
Actually, you're forgetting Microsoft has an Android launcher and you could use Cordana, Edge Browser, among other things that you can't do in iOS. Android can become a near 100 percent Microsoft phone if so desired.

Bill Gates is irrelevant. He ran a garbage company that makes subpar everything.

Still bitter Apple crushed them in the consumer markets huh?

Crushed how? Windows has 90% of the enterprise and consumer desktop marketshare. Microsoft is now integrated with Android which has about 90% mobile marketshare and integrates with Linux with 90% backend/data center marketshare.

Some people seem to forget that without Bill Gates Apple would not be here today. In 1997 when Apple was days away from bankruptcy Bill Gates stepped in and invested millions of dollars in Apple to help them survive.

Bill Gates himself has dedicated his life and his fortune to saving poor people in the third world with life saving vaccinations against HIV and Malaria. He has quite literally saved millions of lives.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates this week participated in his first meeting on Clubhouse, the increasingly popular invite-only conversation app, where he fielded a range of questions as part of an ongoing book tour.

microsoft-edge-ios-android.jpg

Gates was interviewed by journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, and given that the Clubhouse app is currently only available on iOS, naturally one of the questions that came up was whether Gates regularly uses an iPhone and if he prefers iOS over Android.
Clubhouse co-founder Paul Davison, who was also in the room briefly, told Gates and Sorkin that an Android version of the app is the "top feature" that they're currently working towards and are most excited about.

In a 2019 interview, Gates admitted that Microsoft losing to Android as the standard non-Apple phone platform was "one of one of the greatest mistakes of all time" for the Redmond-based company.

In fairness to Gates, it was Steve Ballmer who served as Microsoft's CEO between 2000 and 2014. Ballmer infamously laughed off the iPhone, but Apple had the last laugh, as Windows Phone failed to ever gain any significant market share among mobile operating systems and was ultimately abandoned.

During the Clubhouse meeting, Gates admitted he had an uneasy relationship with Steve Jobs, but called the former Apple CEO "unique." Other topics that came up in Wednesday's online discussion included the global health crisis, climate change, and Gates' new book "How to Avoid a Climate Disaster." The full interview is available on YouTube.

I think it's mostly because Gates is a eugenist and an OS copying rat bastard.

My wife had a Windows Phone until it ceased supporting WhatsApp, which she relies on at the end of 2019. She chose it believing that it would be easier for her to integrate with her work where everything runs Windows. It is now defunct, completely.

I had a Samsung mini Galaxy until the end of 2019 because it was cheaper than an iPhone but I hated it, and I hate everything G👀gle.

The wife now has an iPhone 11 and I have an iPhone 8. We're both very happy and would never use anything else.

"People don't pay for the software [in China]. Someday they will, though. And as long as they're going to steal it, we want them to steal ours.

They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade."

- BILL GATES, explaining Microsoft's Chinese strategy
I dislike iPhone less than Android world. Many things about Android, at least stock version, is better than the annoying iOS.

Pre-installed software would only be an important factor when you first buy your phone though - I don't see how it would be a deciding factor.

Oh, wait. I forgot you need to buy a new android every couple years else it will be out of date on software.

Watching Sorkin throw him all those softballs! What fun! And glad you lost a bunch of money shorting Tesla, there Bill! Bravo!

Those are weird comments, though.

"I wish I had thought of the model of subsidizing phones through the operators. People like to point to this quote where I said the iPhones will never sell. Well the price of $600 or $700 was too high"

But the price clearly isn't too high, since Apple, Samsung and others have no problem selling $700 phones. Oh and, Microsoft has a $1,400 phone. Weird, huh?

" and it was business model innovation by Apple to get it essentially built into the monthly cell phone bill."

Wha? Subsidizing phone pricing wasn't something Apple came up with. It was very, very common at the time.

"I would have moved into the hardware business faster and recognized that what we had in the PC, where there was a separation of chips, systems, and software, wasn't largely going to reproduce itself in the mobile world,"

But arguably, exactly that did happen in the Android world. Just not for Apple and (again, ironically) Microsoft.
Would have, could have, should have. Too bad MS bungled the Windows phone. Would have been nice not to have a duopoly now.
