I just heard this morning on ABC news radio. This is really strange. Starting with Ed McMahon and David Carradine recently, but then Farrah and Michael, and now that Oxy-Clean guy who I see several times a week on TV? And he was only 50 and the cause of death could have been debris that hit him on the head on a flight but did not initially cause huge concern. I don't remember a time when so many famous people were dying one after the other and concurrently being in the news on special reports or at the top of the news. I just remember my wife telling me to put the tv on mute when his commercials would come on.

Ow. Can't believe it, cause people always were joking about him dying. Really sad run we've had with celebrities lately. :(

BYE, BILLY MAYS. CAPS ARE NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR YOUR VOICE.

I get the feeling we're going to hear more about this 'hard landing' in the news as time goes on. I'm hearing (could be all BS - who knows?) the situation was worse than what the media realizes yet.

I don't doubt it. Getting hit in the head with falling luggage can't be good. He shrugged it off, but only he knows how hard a hit he took.

I was just getting into his Discovery Channel show. It shows the "softer" side of a man known for his loud infomercials. He did a lot to help other inventors (including a 16 year old kid) bring their products to market. More there than met the eye. He'll be missed.

who the hell am i supposed to buy stuff from now? ugh..

he did a commercial for my neighbors product in my neighbors back yard.. interesting to watch

A candle light ceremony is planned for 9pm at the Tampa hospital and outside of his Tampa Home.
The home shopping network is broadcasting a 24 hour Mays-a-thon with non-stop showings of his favorite commercials and appearances.
Also Amazon.com has reported an 80,000% increase of online sales of OxiClean and OrangeGlo and the Beard Trimmer.

oh wait...

This death could have been prevented only if he went to the hospital and had his head checked.... I guess the airline will be sued by his family.

I read his recent interview and he was very excited with his career and had many plans for his future.

I agree. If it ends up being a head injury from the "rough landing", then we can all learn from this. Don't screw around with head injuries. Even if you don't think a bump on your head is significant...have it checked out!!

Doubt it; he went on to say yesterday that stuff hit his head as the flight landed, so I'm wondering if it's got something to do with head injury? The FAA is also saying he wasn't wearing his seat belt when landing (that's coming from TMZ so I'm not sure how valid that is).

Very sad, I wish I watched more episodes of Pitchmen.

**edit, correction** TMZ is now retracting their claim that FAA said that Mays wasn't wearing his seat belt.

I think he made have had the same kind of injury as Natasha Richardson got when skiing.

***Dawg beat me to it.***

Can't you guys respect the guy and his life? He contributed so much to the infomercial industry.

Agreed, and thanks for this post. The thing I'm struck by when celebrities pass (and we've had quite a few this week), is how quickly people go to the negative. It's easy to take a shot at their character based on what we know of them from simple pop culture references. What I find offensive is people commenting without looking deeper in the the lives and situation of the person. All I'm saying is do your research, or God forbid, actually read a bio about someone before you comment on their lives.
