Mine was posted last Friday which means I should be getting it some time early this week (I live in Europe) and I am tremendously looking forward to it. I'm quite curious how it'll perform at the highest screen resolution with all the details set to maximum on my iMac Dual Core 3.06 GHz, ATI Radeon 4850 and 4 GB RAM.

Anyway, here's hoping Bioshock 2 will be ported as well .....

Should run really great your card is the best series card for Bioshock, the guys at ATI really helped us push the performance on the 4000 series.

Good to hear! Thanks for the heads-up. Now I'm looking forward to the whole experience even more.

Anyway, thanks for standing by the Mac - keep looking out for and porting great games to the Mac (*cough*Fallout3*cough* ;)) I will definitely be buying!

I'm really interested in this, but I'd like to try the demo out first to see how well it plays on my system.

It would actually be interesting if people, once they have the game, would post some framerates, etc. here.

@edddeduck:
Will there be a way to be able to see the framerate in the game?

This is something I cannot wait for.
I want to see how the demo compares to my 360 version before I buy though.

It will have better graphics and better controls and usually a higher difficulty setting as it wont have to work for sluggish console controllers.

Damn, any chance of adding it in?

Not really, its part of our dev tools and is not something we could just flip on without exposing other tools.

I know that if it looks smooth then it should be fine, but if it looked smooth but was only 25 fps, it would annoy me.

The console versions of Bioshock are all locked at a maximum of 30fps and most people appear to have loved the console versions!

If you'd like a impressive fps in the corner of the screen I can look at making a patch for you that has "180fps" sat in the corner all the time. ;)

Any real gpu from apple should do fine, now if you are talking about integrated crap graphics then you are stuck.

Any GPU which is not Intel will do fine, so the integrated NV9400 card in the MacBook and Mac mini's plays Bioshock quite well (Medium settings if you have 4GB of RAM). The older Intel GMA integrated solutions are not supported and the game will refuse to run.

I know most console games run at 60 fps, but nothing is ever good enough for me :p. Playing Raven Shield on my Mac with everything maxed, I get about 30-50 fps, but I want 40-60 so I turn it down. I guess I should get over it as I play a lot of console games that are 30 fps and I never have any problems with the speed they run at. And I have an Ati Radeon 2400HD, realistically what performance can I expect?

Your card is not that strong gaming wise but you should be smooth, our fps type tests are focused on consistent performance. I consistent frame rate is more important factor in giving the end player a better experience.

I find 30 fps or above is the sweet spot most console games run at as it is the best balance between smooth frame rate and the ability to have impressive graphics. Once you aim for 60 fps you often have to make the game look a lot worse to help boost the fps this is why only a few games like GT5 and Wipeout have 60fps modes on consoles.

Anyway back on subject :) If you have a 128VRAM card you will have smooth fps on low settings and a 256VRAM version you should be able to push the boat out to medium settings. The game automatically selects the best resolution and settings for your machine. These settings are designed to allow you to have the best visual and interactive experience. You can change these but I would at least try out the standard settings as a starting point.

Yeah, I always knew that my card wasn't good at games. I remember when my mum bought this iMac, I had my own eMac and was only interested in console games. She asked whether to get this one or the one with the 2600, I said this one unfortunately :p. Oh well, it's not all bad, and really, as long as I can play the game at a decent frame rate and not horrible graphics I'm happy. I even finished Crysis on this iMac, so Bioshock should be fine :D.

Sorry, we remove the framerate counter option after testing has finished.

Thanks for that bit of info. I was just asking because some people on a message board I post on are curious about how the Mac version performs compared to, say, the PC- or the XBox360-version.

its great to have people that work at Feral here!

i just have a few general questions about porting games...

- Why are there not more AAA titles ported to Mac (like Gears of War was supposed to be ported but who knows what happened to that) is it the lack of developers wanting to? Or is it that it costs more money then you could supposedly make?

-Will PC Bioshock patches be available to download for Mac (if there is any)?

Thanks Guys!

All BioShock patches have been built into the Mac version already so you don't need (and can't use) the PC patches. The Mac patches and the PC patches are not compatible or related. We plan on a patch shortly for the Mac version that adds in support for extra USB pads so you can use MadCatz and RumblePad2 controllers which the PC version did not support.

So any idea when we can expect the demo? I am just trying to get an idea if it is any day now vs. a month or two off.

Are you going to support the Magic Mouse and will I be able to play the game using the Magic Mouse's multitouch-features (the "mouse-wheel", etc.)?
