Black Case iPhone Photo... Just a 3rd Party Cover?

Honestly, does the iPhone really need a makeover? 3g, more flash, etc.. that of course makes sense, but cosmetically why are we all so eager to see something different? Just short attention spans and aesthetic A.D.D. ?

😉 I think the iPhone design is perfect (except the recessed headphone jack)

With a earphone jack on the bottom?

This doesn't ring true.

I'll reassert my guess that this is a $199 iPhone Teen - which will replace the current 8Gb model.

The 3G version will be something new.

I don't see it.

With Apple trending toward aluminum enclosures, I don't think they would adopt plastic unless there is some issue with the 3G/GPS antenna reception.

I also question this GPS rumor, Apple just recently (January) came out with a software update using wifi hotspots and cell towers to find your location and I don't think they would go through all that software development/resources to switch to GPS just six months later. I bet there's an issue with the GPS running down the battery too fast for Apples taste and they might stick with what they have. I don't know about you, but I would rather use the GPS in my car.

I bet it will keep the same form factor with the 3G capability, 16Gig and 32Gig capacity.

Since I live outside of AT&T's 3G coverage area, I'm not buying until they come out with a 32Gig model so I can have room for my music and all the 3rd party apps coming out. 😎

Who cares?

Who cares if it's a valid photo or not. Rest assured, there's a new iPhone coming - and soon if you read into the heavy discounts needed to push them out the door in Europe. Thankfully, the old-worlders aren't as much fanboys as we in the states are. They're actually demanding some worthwhile features in the iPhone. (I'll admit I bought one in June of last year 😱)

I do have faith in the rumors that say a new iPhone is imminent. Probably at the WWDC.

Steve wants 10 million and won't get there soon, unless he gets to 3G. That is a certainty.

I guess the case is transparent, and the text we can see through it actually is on the iPhone itself.
 
Fake or not (it may be 'internally real, meaning the real thing in a provisional casing for field testing)... Regardless, I bet the silver trim will go, simply to screw all the imitators out there.
 
I believe everything posted here and this is a kick in the balls... I was really looking forward to a glossy black iPhone.🙄

I trust engadget just not their source. Engadget believed what a source told them and now it appears that source is false.

I don't believe the whole engadget article. The iPhone won't have a glossy black back and won't be thicker and probably won't have GPS.
 
So where can I get one of those cases? anyone with a link? The silver one next to it looks sweet....

It's not so much a matter of trusting engadget, but they don't frequently post apple rumors from their own sources.

I trust engadget to the point where I don't believe they would intentionally fabricate rumors as many smaller sites might, and that they believe their source to be correct. That being said, how much do I trust their Apple sources? They haven't posted many solid rumors from their own sources, so it's hard to say. That being said, they seem confident about this, so I give them the benefit of the doubt.

also, I said in the original post that this says nothing about Engadget's source. this image was posted to iPodObserver and was simply used as an example image.

btw I don't think it will become thicker even with the staff it's going to be ... I highly doubt it .. should be at least the same or skinner
 
I kinda like the glossy black. Just remember, just b/c the pics were fake, does not mean Apple won't ship iPhones w/o a glossy black backs.

I really hope iPhone 2 adds GPS, 3G, flush headphone port (good for speakers) & maybe built-in radio (AM, FM, XM & Internet) as well as Java & Flash.

It's embarrassing

Watching sites like MacRumors get all wound up over this kind of stuff. It makes us Apple fans look like tools. Calm down, it'll be here soon enough....

However, presumably the iPod touch will not gain GPS (anytime soon at least), so this R&D isn't wasted. And I'm guessing Apple has made it a sort of modular system, where adding the specific GPS functionality isn't too difficult once the rest of the location-related stuff is in there. If you look at it this way, you could argue that the location-based stuff they've already added supports the idea that we will have GPS sometimes soon (as soon as the hardware becomes battery-friendly enough, I'd guess).
