would i be looking at alot of money off of a macbook?! the black one... on the 24th?! omg!

they are offering the deal on the canada store too!!!

I don't know what you consider a "lot" but I think systems will be 5 to 10 % off and accessories and software could be 10 to 15 % off. So don't expect anything better than the current educational discounts. But yeah, this could be a nice little deal when all things are considered... I doubt that they'll discount iPods...

I've got my shopping list together and I'll buy friday (online though, no way in 'ell am I going near a shopping mall this weekend). But I just need a 4GB nano, 2 15" neoprene InCase sleeves, a couple iTunes gift cards/certs and a copy of Aperture. :D

...There's a good bet that they won't discount everything too. I can see the Macbook and iMacs as good possibilities. Some software like iWork, iLife and .Mac. I doubt they'll discount any of the "pro" stuff, MBP, Aperture, Adobe software, things like that. No iPod discounts, but maybe discounts on iPod accessories...

I am still amazed that they have internet in Regina!
Sure, they have internet in Regina. Of course, they have to re-lay the cables to the city every spring after the ice floes melt and the city starts to drift off across the Arctic Ocean.... Seriously, though, some ppl would be surprised about how similar Regina is to a medium-sized city in Minnesota (BTW, I was not sure from your smilie if you were being sarcastic, but I suspect you probably were...).

IIRC, Canada has the highest percentage of its population connected by high-speed internet of any country in the world.

No iPods

So we're certain about no discounts on iPods? Cause I just got a gift code for the online store. I have to spend a minimum of $300 so I was thinking of finally taking the plunge and getting an 80 gig iPod. I'd rather purchase one item and not like a Nano, dock, etc. I'd rather not wait and see because I'd want it here before I travel for Thanksgiving.

I don't think we'll know for sure until Friday. :D

I would like to say no iPods -- they haven't discounted them in the past. However, on their promotional page for Friday's sale, it shows a picture of the 3 different iPods and says "get your's friday" or something like that. So who knows...

Still no one has answered the question: For students, will there be further discounts off of educational pricing? Does no one remember what happened last year?

In the U.S., the day after Thanksgiving is called "Black Friday", which is historically one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Oh, the day after thanksgiving, for the rest of the world when is thanksgiving and who should I give my thanks ?

You are absolutely correct MacinDoc! ;) :D

debater, I responded to your PM asking me the exact same thing, but since you never replied and have now posted the exact same incorrect comment again, I'll post my reply to you here once again. I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or not, but since you've posted it twice now and never replied to me, I guess I'm the one who can use the  emoticon...

"SaskTel (the Service Provider here) was the first company in Canada to launch residential DSL services back in 1996 so we've always had Internet access. We have the most extensive fiber network in all of Canada, launched our IPTV service over 3 years ago (the first in North America to do so), just launched High Definition over IPTV last month (the first company the the world to do this completely over IP), have High Speed access to any community with a population of 300 people or more and in a couple months will be pumping 40 Mbps to the customer in our major centers as work continues on our FTTH initaitive."

So if anything, we are probably more advanced then wherever you are. Maybe I should be asking you that question instead of the other way around. :p

What's your next question going to be - "Is the Pope religious"? :D

Canada adopts Technology much faster than the US. So if you are in a small subarb in the US, especially in an older town or city, expect your northern neighbors to have better than you do ;) .

I live in Minnesota USA, so I get to see quite a bit of the nice high speed connectivity, Web 2.0 , IP TV, and other things when I go up to visit ;) .

Oh, the day after thanksgiving, for the rest of the world when is thanksgiving and who should I give my thanks ?

According to Wikipedia:

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks (traditionally to God) at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In Canada, it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival, held in churches across the country on a relevant Sunday to mark the end of the local harvest, though it is not thought of as a major event (compared to Christmas or Easter) as it is in other parts of the world. This tradition was taken to North America by early settlers, where it became much more important.

...and...

The history of Thanksgiving in Canada goes back to an English explorer, Martin Frobisher, who had been trying to find a northern passage to the Orient. He did not succeed but he did establish a settlement in Canada. In the year 1578, he held a formal ceremony, in what is now the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, to give thanks for surviving the long journey. This is considered the first Canadian Thanksgiving, and the first Thanksgiving to have taken place in North America.

Me, I gave thanks to all the people that work hard at making this a better world for everyone else to live in (not personally, of course). You could give thanks to Steve, for instance.

They did the same thing last year, but I'll wait and see what other deals there are at other stores. I have until the 29th to use the code.

I hope I can time my purchasing decision based on the shopping season. My past purchases have not been synched well with the shopping season. I tend to buy things when I want to buy.

Still no one has answered the question: For students, will there be further discounts off of educational pricing? Does no one remember what happened last year?

I went to a store in D.C. yesterday and asked this question: the local genius said 'yes' but I didn't get a warm and fuzzy.

As for 'what' would be on sale...he said they'd probably be given envelopes with the details when they showed up for work at some ungodly hour on friday..that would go up in flames after reading it. :)

I don't know about educational pricing, but my EPP (Employee Purchase Program) discount *is* combined with the black friday discounts in the online store, at least.

I don't think that happened last year...

hey all,

just about to order my first mac, a stock 2.16 MBP, and i just wanted to confirm that since i am buying from the EDU store, that there is no way i can get in on the sales right? the EDU discount gives me 200$ CAN off the MBP and a little off applecare too.

You should phone your order in so that you can attempt to get your edu discount.
