As per usual, these "deals" are pathetic.

If I want to go shopping on black friday i'm not buying any Apple products. Most major retailers will let you take 30-60% off today, plus an additional $10-20 in immediate cash savings on top of that. it's a one day thing, and its all about volume and discounts.

Apple doesn't know the meaning of either.

Those "major retailers" are also in the Red which is why they are doing this. Thanks to Apple's customers being loyal Apple is in the Black so they don't have to drop their drawers for the customers, why should they? If you were in their shoes would you?

For the people of the UK.
If you're planning to get an iPod, HMV are doing the best deal at the moment.

Nanos & touches (Full price. £129, £189) Come with a £25 itunes card and a £20 HMV giftcard.

Keep your £14.99 saving, Apple.

Apple has lived through some very lean years as a company - - it's like the stories you hear from your grandparents about the Great Depression and rationing of WWII - - waste is not in their vocabulary.

Absolutely, pulling in $20 billion revenue in a quarter is just not enough... Got to pinch those pennies.

So, to the OP's point, if the purpose was to drive people to a purchase, congrats, they failed. There are a ton of people out there who will impulsively plop down their credit cards, but if this thread is at all indicative, there are just as many -if not more- who are completely unmotivated, because at the end of the day, this is only a "sale" to folks who don't know any better.

This post is so wrong on so many counts. I hardly think Apple failed, in fact I'll bet their stores are more packed today than usual and I'll bet they have multitudes of customers walking out with Apple merchandise. MacRumors hardly represents even 1/10th of 1% of Apple's customer base so this thread is indicative of absolutely nothing. As much bitching about Apple that goes on here you'd think that Apple would go out of business, especially if this forum is indicative of the amount of unhappy customers. :p
Really? People don't know any better so they just buy as Apple's BF sale goes? I don't think so. Those prices on their Macs today are for the most part better than the educational deals. $100 off is $100 off plus free shipping.
You obviously don't understand the situation behind Black Friday or you wouldnt've have written this post.

sorry but 10% off for one of the biggest sales of the year? does apple even know how to have a sale?

i constantly see bestbuy selling things for below cost on other computer related items, wtf is up with this? even if they went to 50% off, they would still be making money, im sure 25% wouldn't hurt.

You discount things to increase demand.. When your products are the most in demand, it is kind of silly to discount at all. Apple is having a sale to be in the spirit of the silly day, the Apple stores will all be overflowing with people who would have bought mostly the same items without a sale.

To all the johnny come latelys complaining about the lack of deeper discounts, this is completely on par with what Apple usually offers for Black Friday. So buy or don't.

I personally would have like to see Apple TV make the list, at $88 I would have picked up the new model, but now I will probably wait until we get more info in the next year as to any more changes to its iOS and see what happens when ATV Flash gets updated for the current model.

Because you couldn't get a $12 discount it's a dealbreaker? WOW, just WOW. :p

Not much savings, in fact I can save a lot more with the "Military/Government Purchase Program" (I work for the DOD)

The MacBook Pro 15" i7 I have had my eye on will cost me $114 more with the Black Friday price then it would any other day with the Government discount, plus Apple Care will cost an addition $110 on Black Friday ($224 extra for Black Friday, Thanks Mr. Jobs!)

And it looks like you can't combine savings.

I hope the defense department is not full of people with your attitude and level of common sense... If it is, we are all in trouble.

I just went through this with someone else. Check the last couple pages. Short version:

  • I'm not looking for more savings for myself. Yes, I did comment that you cannot combine discounts, just thought someone who want to know. If I did not make this clear, I am sorry.
  • You aren't paying for my 10% discount when you pay full price for your Apple product.
  • I know Apple has no reason to have a sale. I don't make any demands that they do.
  • I do not expect Apple to give me a discount, and again I make no demands for a greater discount.
  • I just thought it would be nice for Apple to offer others the same modest discount to everyone on this one day of the year.

And outside of this Apple Store discussion: As someone who has worked in a few different areas of US Federal Government (DOJ, DOD, etc) you may be shocked at the lack of common sense found in our government. Well, maybe not, if you consider that the government is just made up of people, why expect the people who work there (not elected officials, I mean the vast majority of people in the government. I do expect more from elected officials and am usually disappointed :() be smarter than people working any other kind of job?

More rationalizing drivel.

I'm not a troll, I simply cannot stand whiners who think other people, including businesses, owe them something as shown by your complaint here about Apple's 'insufficient' discounts.

Nice edit!

Figures someone who works for the government doesn't understand economics or capitalism. It's not enough that other Apple customers subsidize your govt discount, you want even more. Perhaps all govt workers should get Apple products for free and the private sector prices should increase accordingly. Maybe the student discount should be 100% as well in order to placate the so called 'student' rioters in England.

I love it when people act as though Govt. employees owe the taxpayers some sort of gratitude. It's a job like any other. Some are more important than others. Without Government Capitalism would fail.

Looks to me Apple is doing just fine outside of Black Friday sales. They don't even need to do this in the first place do they? So for all the complainers out there feel free to buy another brand.

Yep, completely missed that one. Dammit. Thanks for pointing it out now though.

The refurb I just purchased was 15% off anyway. Phew!

Sowwy. :D

Just so you know in advance, the 15% Quidco for Bestbuy is back on until Sunday. Brings the cost of the base model Macbook Air to £738, the iPad to £373 and the iMac to £868.

No b/c it wasn't available today at a discount, the only day Apple discounts, there is no reason to rush out and get one when my original Apple TV works just fine and I'm in no hurry. At this point I may see if my wife gets us one for xmas or pick one up in the next few months if I feel the itch, maybe even waiting until it gets an iOS update or a hack to put games or some other features on it. But right now ATV Flash has not been released for it and with the holidays coming up there was no reason to get one, unless of course it had been on sale, I might have pulled the trigger.

There was never a deal to make or break.

Well I just pulled the trigger on a Mac Mini from Amazon ($599) and a Bluetooth keyboard, wireless mouse and 8G of RAM from OWC (all together $147 (refurbishment keyboard & mouse)). This is going to make a great addition to my HDTV setup with Plex installed on it. :D

Really? Looks like an edit was involved.
I didn't edit the quote from your post. Clearly, I expect too much from a government on the job retiree. Try a reading comprehension course or you will never make a GS-3.

He was referring to the edit you made to your own comment.

Nevermind...

Good choice. You're not getting anything correct today.

EDIT ALERT. EDIT ALERT.

I should learn to never participate in a thread with people with the entitlement mentality. Have a nice day.

And the "Nevermind..." had nothing to do with you. I mentioned a Micro Center BF deal, but I'm sure it's been covered by now. You have yet to show anything I have said to be "incorrect" If you disagree with an opinion I have, that is great, but the fact that you don't like it or disagree doesn't make it incorrect.

It was an exact quote. No editing involved. Ask your mom to read the original post.

Now this is hilarious. Superb grasp of capitalism you have there, comrade.

Firstly, implying I lean commie is laughable. You assume too much. Secondly, you did edit your post by taking out what I guess even you thought was too demeaning. Say what you want about my grasp of Capitalism but without at least an entity providing for the common defense your free market lifestyle would be an interesting adventure.

I enjoy what this country has to offer me and what I can offer it. I don't feel the need to harp on people for enjoying the same. You do realize Government employees pay taxes too? Perhaps I assume too much as well!

Insulting peoples grammar and writing about about someone's "mom" is typical on the internet when a poster has nothing to truly reply with.
