Well technically I guess. I would think it would be pretty easy to assume anyone who is a red card holder shops at target frequently though so that $100 is as good as cash.
I understood that you're a target shopper but the fact remains you have to pay off your credit card by 599 dollars not 499.

The bottom line though is not 499 vs 599, but whether you're happy with your iPad :D

The iPads 32gb wifi models both black and white are sold out online. The white 64gb wifi model are also sold out online quick.

I went ahead and orders the black iPad 64gb wifi. People are just going straight down the list what's the cheaper iPad for practical use. The cellular modes are still available.

The difference is you end up with $599 on the card for an ipad and $100 worth of groceries instead of $699 on the card for the same goods. Gift cards are great if you'd already be spending the same money there or somewhere equivalent. Not so great if you wouldn't already be spending the money there. In the case of Target, if you have a Super Target it's simple to spent $100 on groceries and household goods there vs. Kroger.

Indeed!

Exactly......

No way people try to say this or that, your Card STILL is getting charged for $599 +.

Why buy Food is Target when Walmart sells for less as many other supermarkets. I mean I guess you could buy some games with the $100 gift card and flip it, but honestly man that's just more hassle.

Macmall is selling the iPad 32GB for $575 and the 64GB for $639, that to me is a better deal for non red card members.

Perhaps in your area and for what you consider "food"... My skin crawls when I walk through the meat & produce sections at the nearby Walmarts.

Anyway, if the target deal doesn't work for you... feel free to not participate. No point in cr@pping on those for whom it does work unless you're just jealous. (speaking in the general sense, not just to tears2040)

I don't buy meat in Walmart, heck Target either. I go to the main supermarkets for those. Also no one is crapping in this thread, just trying to make logic out of the situation.

If I got the Red Card to work then it's a great deal, as that basically covers tax in my area. Even still though it was more done so people can understand what is happening here.

Free Gift card or not you are being charged $599+

Now the only way this would make sense to me is if I buy something with the $100 gift card and sell it. I would much rather have $100 off any iPad and forget about the gift card.

Was able to order a 16GB wifi last night and use my red card, came out to 490 after shipping and tax and the 5% discount. I got a space grey version so I'm hoping I can take it into target and exchange for a silver before I open it. :) my first iPad.

Fine. Everyone wants to get iPad air $100 off msrp and just leave the store. We get that.

But target is a business. Its their business to give you a a gift card. They want to keep that $100 inside their own stores. Cause they can recoup their cost much quicker.

Remember Apple usually only gives retailers maybe a 10% discount to resell their products. So if target tried to sell iPad Air for $379 they would be losing money on each sale. It doesn't make business sense to sell a product at that discount financially that is new and will eventually sell and clear inventory.

By giving you a $100 gift card. Target knows their grocery markup is usually 30% and their clothing markup is 50%. So $100 gift is worth $100 to consumer but only worth $50-70 in net cost to target.

Its a win for most consumers. And target has calculated they will at least break even (cause the cost to acquire iPad in bulk is 10% less msrp). Or maybe make a little bit on promo if you spend more than $100 on gift card.

Something to consider: I would rather deal with no hassle return policy Target at returning the iPad Air (ie dead pixel, yellow, dislcolored screen) than with other retailers that have mostly an online prescence (ie Macmall or BH).

Anyhow ordered a 16 gb Verizon Air from Target.com and will be returning my 16 gb wifi only to Target.

Is there a 0% chance of me getting the iPad Air if I arrive at opening time and enter the store after everyone else?

I would like to save a trip over there.

I am a Black Friday virgin.

Skip it and get it online at apple.com, $75 card, $25 extra is just not worth it man

Good post. I will be using mine in electronics though...Target always has good deals in that department.....I don't understand the "its still $599" rhetoric but to be honest I couldnt care less as I will happily be spending my $100.

Yes. Each Target only gets a few, so if you want one, you'd better be among the first few in line or else you are probably hosed.

So when does target deal start for ipad air?
8pm et today?

How about walmart for iphone 5s? Today or tmr 8am?

Im going at 3am and sleeping in the car til the first person shows up. Then ill return the air i have now to bestbuy.

Also, as a fyi, Target also charges 10% at the register (along with tax) for any "gift" card ive ever gotten/used.

Day gon' get dares, das fo show!:)

I tried calling 3 Targets in my area yesterday to ask them how many they'd have, roughly. None of them could tell me. Either they didn't know or they couldn't tell me, even if they knew.

I'm not camping out but it'll be interesting to hear what the supply situation is like for East Coasters before I head out in maybe an hour. (I want a 32 gig wi-fi only iPad Air in silver/white.)

There is no chance in hell I'm fighting with the crowds out there tonight and tomorrow.

I found that Best Buy had a great deal online on the new iPad, with free expedite shipping. I ordered mine the moment they went up for sale early this morning, got a 32GB Air for $60 off and free expedite shipping. I'll have it early next week.

Wife just got one. They had a huge palate of them. Now to decide on keeping or getting 32gb.

That's cool.

I was debating whether or not to go to Target and buy it but I didn't want to fight through the crowd. Target still says that the Air is in stock but I don't know if they updated it tonight. Might check it out and see what happens.
