lol! I diidnt think it would be easy but as soon as I opened it I remembered how much I loved the size of the original mini I had. I returned it because I disliked the display so much compared to the ipad 4 so I ended up with the 4. I always told myself I would own the mini once it had retina but then I saw the air and decided that was the way to go without ever seeing the new mini. As of right now, I am enjoying the mini so much I just dont see myself wanting the air. I change my mind pretty easily though.....lol
I know what you mean, the feel of the mini cant be beat. Of course me using a 1st gen mini for a year supports that, but really its literally perfection to type on. Typing on the air in lanscape with split keyboard does take some getting used to thats forsure. Im basically not using the mini for now and using only the air and seeing how quickly i grasp onto the split keyboard. This right here, will be the deciding factor. If I dont, then ill go back to the mini.
I still think its complete nonsense that the air with split keyboard, get this...the keys are the exact same size as the mini with split board. WTF? Cause the air with split board, the keys are puny and too small. At the very least they should be larger than the minis.
The mini keyboard has the perfect size as far as key size goes.
Ive made pretty good progress typing on the air with split keyboard WITHOUT a case, but once i put a case on, it felt too big and heavy and really threw me off. Once I returned the case, the light weight of the air all came back. I think this is a tab that is best suited for super low profile cases or smart cover + invisible shield on the back.
No need for stress. You're in holiday return period season, where most places give extra time to return stuff. Try them both and see which better fits your needs. The only risk (other than damaging one) is finding you love having both!
As for deciding stuff quickly, remember most such decisions are easily fixed if wrong, just a matter of money or time.

Trust your instincts, don't over analyze, make a choice and then look forward instead of back. Both are fine devices so either is going to be fine.
True, ill take advantage of the extended time but i wont make it too long. Feel bit iffy with $1500 worth of ipads sitting in my room haha. Wanna pick up a case but waiting to make a decision first before buying one. Im basically going to give it at least another good week using the air and see how im adapting to the split keyboard. Im already very familar with the mini so i can put that one aside for now.
Actually couple times already, I was leaning towards the mini and about to close the deal but then couple factors came up that very well could affect my decision.
I will be getting a new phone next summer (not neccesarily iphone) but I want a 5" screen on the phone at the bare minimum. Im worried a 5" phone and 8" ipad might be too close in screen size and will overlap and perhaps the airs bigger screen would be more ideal. I say this because I just sold my 1st gen mini, and the one I choose from here, my goal is to keep and use for at least 2 years (3 would be even better!). I think the hardware in the air and rminis are future proof enough to last 3 years easy.
My 1st gen mini, i had for a year and already upgraded (which I generally dont do), but I knew that when I bought it that rmini is out the following year.
2) There is more value in the air (in my case $80 or so to go from the rmini to air), but again comfort and a users preference overide product value.
