It's been a rumor for almost 2 years now. In fact since they released BB10.
We've seen how rumors about blackberry turned out anyway. They were supposed to be dead last year, samsung or Lenovo were supposed to buy them, etc.

Considering the amount of time they put in their own OS, to make sure android apps were useable on BB10, etc... It's highly unlikely.
Plus, they already said they were not a hardware company anymore, but were focusing on service. They sell phones because it's what they consider the most secure, not to become rich with it (even if that wouldn't hurt them !)

Anyway, if they do, I sure hope they're still going to release BB10 phones. Still using two phones, one being a blackberry because /keyboard.

Wow, is that picture what their phones look like today? Or is that an old picture? I mean WOW (in Red).

BES use you be a good server tool, but now not so much and still expensive. My company uses GOOD, not that I am a fan, but just to point out that BES is no longer the bee's knee.

Going to Android means they will be one amongst the rest and still competing with Google and Samsung.

I just don't see a lot of positive outcomes for them.

RIM should just ditch 10, I mean, it's not hard to incorporate blackberry security standards with android... Security and viruses wouldn't be an issue

Only considering this now in 2015. Wow.
If they did this 3-4 years ago, it might have saved them, today however is way too late
Not completely too late. BB OS 10 already supports Android apps
Man.. Let me tell you something, if I can get a premium Blackberry Boldish device with real cow hide on the back with a vivid screen (hell it don't have to be touch) with a quad core cpu, LTE etc on the latest Android software... My iPhone 6 is going out the window

That keyboard man... I miss it so much, it's worth the switch from iOS. And with the latest and greatest android... Battery life would be phenomenal

BB is not far from that now. By that I am referring to the BlackBerry Passport. It certainly has the specs, the screen, touch + kb, and runs Android apps now under BB OS 10.

I just traded up from an iPhone 4 three months ago. What a productivity improvement that wide screen makes. iPhone 6/6s pales by comparison. I wish Apple would come up with something that creative but not quite seeing that spark these days. Sticking with my Macs but leaving' the iOS world behind.

This is a good move for them. I said they should have done it a few years ago.

The thing is though that it needs to be of a quality similar to the S6 or HTC One otherwise it won't gain much interest.

With it using Android it will have plenty of apps available, and there is plenty of people out there who would stil like a physical keyboard.

To this day....I miss having a tactile keyboard on my phone. Touchscreens for typing, not matter what add ons are out there, just don't do it for me.

But not enough to go back to something like a Blackberry. I think there are many like me that feel somewhat the same....don't like the touchboards, but not enough to sacrifice everything else that comes with an IPhone / IOS, or high end Andriod hardware.

I had BB before, even their Playbook tablet. No software updates.
It doesn't fit my need as I don't use my devices for email only, needed the browser / map, which it does poorly compared to android or ios.
It's a good thing it had a removable battery, I used it often to do a reset when it locks up, and I don't have any apps in it :D

Blackberry, please go dead already and stay dead. :apple:

Thank god, anything would be an improvement over their garbage OS right now. They should just sell or license their keyboard patent.

The only phone palatable right now is the classic and that is because it accepts they can't really compete with others and accepts it only has one good thing going for it.

RIP blackberry

physical keyboard

...And Blackberry still doesn't get it. It was admirable when they kept fighting for a keyboard for so long even when all the other guys eschewed keyboards, but now it's just funny.

I would totally have bought this a couple years ago!
Their keyboards were - and still are - absolutely lovely to use. You could type books with it.
Email was perfect. And it was quick.
BBM was cool. I kept the iphone in my left pocket, the Blackberry in the right one.
The iPhone for pictures and use(less/ful) stuff, the BB for email and BBM.

The BBM interface reminded me of the Gopher era. It did however what it needed to do and it did it good and fast.

But things changed. I've been BB-less since 2 years. I've installed BBM on my iphone when it came out, but deleted it a couple months after. The fact Google came out with the new gMail iphone app also eased up the transformation pain.

I do have to admit that I find myself doing more email on my desktop now. I honnestly loved the ol' blackie but don't feel the urge to go back.

I thought one of blackberry's strongest point was their secure platform and people liked their os.

For me a third party device and blackberry software made much more sense.

It seems, Blackberry's mismanagement never ends...

As much as I like my Passport, I am back to iOS at the same moment, they become a green can.

Or I am turning Android myself, but surely not the Blackberry's one.

But seeing the things realistically, I suggest, they should change one of the three letters in their Company's name to "P".

RIM should just drop the entire hardware line and concentrate on their messaging service. Staying in hardware now is just an ego trip for these Kanuks running the show north of the border.

I think Blackberry should partner with Microsoft. A Blackberry classic with Windows Phone, Outlook and Office would probably help both companies.

I feel kind of bad for them. They're like one of those ghosts who doesn't realize they're a ghost, so they don't understand that the world has already mourned them, buried them and then moved on, until eventually Haley Joel Osment tells them and suddenly the last 8 years of being ignored and overlooked all makes sense in a rush of black-and-white flashbacks.

It's okay, Blackberry. Your wake was lovely, and everybody said some very nice things about you. Now it's time to go into the light.

But only kind of.

Not even then. That keyboard isn't anything most users would use to make a decision over which phone to get.

I think the percentage of people that prefer a BB keyboard to an iPhone one is small. Plus imagine how much space the physical keyboard will take...

FYI Blackberry Already has Android on its devices. What it doesn't have yet is google play services (unless you install an unofficial version). BlackBerry already has the most efficient o.s and the fastest, most accurate typing experience. What's been missing is top of the line cameras and official apps.

Blackberry has already released a Secusmart Android tablet that was produced by Samsung.

The up and coming slider phone has a curved glass screen similar to the Samsung edge. Samsung has the patents for this.

This is going to be good. Fragile but good. Rumoured specs are: 5.1-inch QHD display for 1,440 × 2,560 resolution, an octa-core CPU, 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras plus a 3,650mAh battery. And a capacitive keyboard doubles as a track pad.

Search icon is visible in some photos. This suggests the device will also have a virtual keyboard. That means It will basically be two devices in one. An all touch when on the move and a hardware qwerty with a massive viewing area.

The irony is strong in this thread. "Oh blackberry is dead etc, they should just give up ". They are still in business and by no means
Worse of than apple once used to be. I'm not saying that they are making a comeback - but hey at least they Trying.
