It's about damn time. When I was first getting a smartphone instead of a Palm PDA and a cell phone, I thought for a nanosecond about switching from the Palm platform to a blackberry, but the lack of native syncing turned me off completely. Now those with a Mac can choose between Apple, Palm and RIM without losing a vital attribute.

(yes, I know 3rd party solutions are available, but they all seem to lack something, IMO.)

It's pretty surprising that it's taken this long for RIM to get this done. The Mac has been growing in popularity significantly over the past 5 years, especially for home use. It's not like it's an insignificant portion of their potential users!

August sees the release of the new Blackberry 8520 on Vodafone in the UK.

This phone is said to be "Mac Compatible" straight out of the box.

Shame on Apple that even a competitor's sync software can sync iCal tasks, but Apple's can't.

I love Apple products, but we need more competition against Apple.

Apple are living in their own virtual monopoly of OSX, and in their own little world they are getting complacent.

It is mac compatible, meaning, if you plug it in, the mac sees the drives so you can drag and drop files (music, video etc.) right into it.

Well, well, perfect timing. I had a blackberry for close to 2 years, and was constantly frustrated by the lack of mac support. Even to update my firmware, I had to use a windows computer - they only offered the firmware as a part of an installer package that only ran on windows. I ended up writing a nasty email to RIM, telling them that they were going to lose customers if they didn't at least provide basic mac support.

Turns out they did end up losing a customer: me. Got my iPhone a month ago.

Too little too late RIM.

Hmm this looks likes it's gonna be another interesting story line to read in the new york times monday morning while I'm at work... Bb should really know that Apple isn't just gonna allow this unless there was some kind of contract, but i doubt that would happen... hmmm very very interesting

I mean thats cool i guess if you have a blackberry...

huh? apple is fine with this.

The poster is trying to make it seem that Apple is somehow being disingenuous by allowing RIM to sync and not Palm. This of course is not true; in fact the opposite is the case. RIM is using their own software to sync instead of hijacking iTunes. It is what Palm should be doing.

Don't know if this has been posted before, but will this enable tethering via Blackberry? Or is this feature already available? Any experiences on tethering with the current Blackberrys?

If I can tether, I'll definitely be getting a Blackberry soon:D

Mmm...Mac + Blackberry = MacBerry?...or BlackMac??:p

The Storm is CDMA; ATT uses GSM. It won't work.

For the record, the Storm does in fact have both CDMA and GSM antennas (as does the new Tour) It even has a SIM card in the back.

If one was to get the Storm unlocked you would be able to use it on AT&T (not sure about 3G, but edge would definitely work.)

The only 3G that the Storm and Tour support is the 2100 mHz band so if you're using AT&T it will only connect on EDGE. EDGE on the Storm is painfully slow

Maybe the BlackBerry Desktop Manager will give us supported tethering on the Mac instead of having to go through 3rd Party Companies.

its about freaking time!!!!

I'm using like 5 different apps right now to separately get my contacts, calender, music, pictures and video off/on to my Blackberry Pearl Flip. And most of the time it doesn't even recognize my Blackberry...or sync my full contact list.

Can someone tell me how RIM is able to sync iTunes playlists with Apple being up in arms? I am just not familiar with what "technique" they use other than they do not try to do the tricks that Palm has been attempting for the Pre.

BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac (Beta Version 1.0)

Hey BlackBerry users with mac's!

Just to let you guys know, I was looking around, and I saw that the unofficial Blackberry Desktop Manager (beta version 1.0) was just released about weeks ago. (It has not been released by RIM)

it was an unstable release and the website told me "download at your own risk".

However, It worked perfectly; it sync my itunes perfectly with my macbook.

Feels like I am syncing an ipod or an iphone using itunes. :D

I wonder when the official release will be made?:p
