Wasn’t Palm the first, at least in the mass market, to realize the benefits of adding mobile telephony to their PDA… giving birth to the smart phone?

Yes, one of the first; although the Treo was introduced by Handspring right before Palm acquired them. Palm, one of those companies who you wonder what it be like if they had survived and continued to innovate, instead of being killed by HP.

They also had a Palm VII that could get pages. Went through battery power in no time.

Wait until Apple figures out way to have raised keyboard on a screen. :p
Will take the definition of a touchscreen to a whole new level.

$139 & $159 for a useless keyboard when you had one on your touch screen? Save your money or spend it on a two PlayStation or Nintendo Switch game for your kids or nephews

We have employees requesting this type of keypad case. Yes, they are all elderly.

I'm sure they are. Wait until they get a load of the size this makes their phone. It's completely un-pocketable and makes it even more gargantuan than it already is.

The best keyboard BlackBerry was the Passport. I used a Passport. It was a great device.

I did too. I'm still partial to the Bold 9000. That is the best BlackBerry that's ever been made in my opinion.

Completely covers the speaker at the bottom as well. This seems like a well thought out product for sure....

In case if you feel your new iPhone is not top heavy enough, we have a solution just for you by shifting the center of gravity even further upwards!

The center of gravity would shift downwards but the moment on the user's wrists would increase.

*cries in cmc thumb arthritis at 30-something* 😭

Many moons ago I loved my blackberry, but I couldn't do it anymore.

With that tattooed sleeve this photo is giving off that "Credit Card Skimmer" vibe.

Hardware like this is just screaming key logger.
Ah, right. Needs to be clean shaved with a buzzcut and an italian suit. With good cuff links and a rolex. Only then they are trustworthy. Gotta remember the firm handshake as well.

I like this enough that I'd buy one if it cost half as much. Maybe they'll catch on enough that the price will come down in the future. My first smartphone was an iPhone so I've never held any firm beliefs that a physical keyboard is "better". I do a lot of long typing on my phone and I think quality physical buttons, especially with backlighting, is something I could get used to. I may just buy a handheld Bluetooth keyboard as many models would be easier to carry compared to having a dedicated case attached to the phone or, worse, detaching it from the phone for whatever reason and then having to carry both simultaneously.

Just holding my phone and pretending like I’m using a keyboard on the bottom seems awkward. The blackberries and windows devices I used in the past had more square screens that worked well with a bottom keyboard. Still, I’d love to try one of these.

Dont tempt me. Blackberry had a lot of random issues but the keyboard was not one of them. Even the best touch screen keyboard out there is crap compared to the old blackberry keyboard. It was amazing and I truly miss it even over 10 years later I still miss that keyboard.

Imagine how the Psion folks feel.

I had an Apple Newton, Palm Pilot, Palm Treo, Sony Clie & so many different Blackberries . The Blackberry Bold was the best keyboard. I mastered One handed typing, but two hands and WOW , blazing fast with no errors!

Why didn't they add an extra battery inside this thing? That would make the added size more palatable even when not using the keyboard.

this could have been cool for mini models
That's what I was thinking. The extra length is offset by the smaller phone and you end up with more screen space on that smaller screen when you don't need to display a virtual keyboard.

Why can't somebody design a flip-over keyboard case that has 3 positions?
- Open flat with the keyboard under a flap that covers the screen.
- Flipped down and folded just below the keyboard with the folded flap magnetically attached to the back.
- Open flat and flipped to cover the back for normal usage.

Probably didn't describe it well, but there has to be a way to integrate a keyboard into a cover without adding length, and keeping the added thickness minimal.
This idea would be great for using in landscape mode where the virtual keyboard otherwise leaves you with only 2-3 lines of text. But that's the problem with a physical keyboard... you have to pick one orientation to use it in and in the other it is useless.
