I want to make sure that I've tested everything for any potential problem, however minute they may be, before my 14 days are up
Here's the thing, I do test it, but I use it as it should be.

We're seeing people complain that a given key sounds a little softer then others, or shaking their laptop produces an odd rattle. That's not testing machines out to find minute details. That's just over the top obsessive behavior.

Because of the keyboard issues being all over the news, I did a complete test of the keyboard. More thorough than I would normally do. I did notice some keys being much louder than other keys. It didn't bother me, but something like that -could- be an indication of an underlying issue, so I looked it up. It seems only fair and sensible to check with other users if they're experiencing the same thing. Forums are great for this sort of thing. If most people are experiencing it, then it's fair to say that it's a design limitation or design flaw (but no a manufacturing flaw - big difference), depending on how you choose to look at it. Then you either learn to live with it or return it if that detracts enough from the experience of using the product to not be worth the price you paid for it. Don't keep exchanging it over and over to get that one unit where that's not the case though. That one unit out of 100 units which doesn't have loud up/down arrow keys may very well be the faulty one then!

At the end of the day though, when someone plops down a large sum of money for a product, the experience of using that product should make that person feel that it was worth the investment. If the sound of the keyboard being uneven is enough to ruin that experience for someone, then so be it. Return it. Personally I think that's silly, but then there are things that mean a lot to me and can be a dealbreaker, such as screen uniformity being just a tad off, which somebody else might find equally silly.

That said, I think some of what we're seeing here is really just buyer's remorse in disguise. Instead of the person just being honest and realizing that they probably shouldn't have burned a whole lot of money on a new MBP to begin with, he/she goes looking for an excuse to return it and validate to themselves that it's a bad product that they should have never bought to begin with.

For what it's worth, my brand new 15" 2018 is even worse than the OPs - light leaking from around the rubber on the bezel all along the top, and both sides. It's off back anyway for another reason but pretty shocked to see it this bad :| You can squeeze the rubber and block the light so it looks like the rubber is deformed or not properly seated.

Just finally got my replacement for another issue, no idea if original had this 'issue' or not, replacement does, mainly at top edges of sides and a a spot near middle at top, but I can only notice if I stick it at unrealistic brightness with totally dark screen in dark room.

it may or may not help, but got a display and toplid replacement on my 2016 non touchbar,

at 100% brightness in a dark room, ZERO light bleed between the rubber gasket and glass

I don't think that is acceptable. My TB 2016 has zero light bleed in dark room full brightness on black background. Normally that would not be normal operating procedures, but last night me my wife was out of town in hotel watching a scary Ghost Hunters episode in total dark room for the scare factor, I think you would notice that bleed from the pics.

Yeah, it's slightly poor QC and shouldn't really happen in this class.. but considering I don't so far have any of the other issues on my current system, I'll take this minor non issue over the others.

I sent this picture to apple and the screen will be change next week... I think that the next will have the same issue.

I was already on a replacement machine that took me a month to get, with a screen that otherwise to my eyes has no defects ( I at least don't see any tint, or corner bleed or anything ), so I'd rather not risk getting a worse screen for now.

My replacement machine didn't have the issued so that is resolved, however the new model has a loose/wobbly Touch Bar pmsl XD they are replacing lol.

One customer services rep thinking it’s a fault doesn’t make it so. Loads of people are also getting laptops exchanged for the crackling noise issue, when it’s pretty clear that its software-based. Presumably their reps are also ‘admitting’ it’s a fault, because Apple customer services are famously ill-advised when it comes to technicalities.

‘LOL’

omg, you've been obsessively perched in these threads for two years. get a life :p

Enjoying my fault free Mac Book Pro with NO light bleeding ;) Clearly was a fault otherwise they wouldn't have replace with a working fault free machine ;)

I read the first three pages of this old thread and was thoroughly disgusted at the replies the OP received. Like so much of humanity, half the people don't have the most basic reading comprehension to understand the issue that was posted, and the other half told the OP to just accept a high end computer with light leaking at the rubber gasket on the far side of the bezel. This place is ridiculous. I've been posting here for 10 years and have never, not once, seen that defect. That is a flat out, plain as day defect and is entirely unacceptable at any price point. Glad you got it sorted, OP.

let it go sweetie! you're plastered all over these threads going back to 2016. no one likes an incessant know-it-all, especially when they clearly don't know it all :p

Riiiiight… you do realise that the post you're responding to is almost five months old, right? Clearly it's not me who needs to let go…

Well, good for you, you must feel very pleased with yourself. You're like some sort of righteous forum vigilante. It's really impressive.

When Apple replaced my XR screen, ,it had light bleed all along the right and the top where rubber meets glass

ridiculous! havent had this happen on an iphone since the 3G.

can see the rubber gasket isnt consistently leveled or a straight line either

got an express replacement that doesnt have it, but sheesh!

Found it on my 13" too. o_Oo_O
the same three lines at the top...

everything else is perfect tho, i'm not replacing it for this.

edit: jesus its pissing me off now

Anyone having that issue currently? I'm planning to send my MBP 2017 for other problems but if it's a problem I'll also include that on service paper.

"If it's a problem ... "
If you have light bleed, then, yes, of course you should report that.
If you don't have that problem, why would you report it?

(Of course, Apple might not fix it for you, but you do need to give them the opportunity to respond by asking about that.

It is a problem for me but i dont know if its for Apple. That’s what i wanted to know. I contacted with Apple Support many times and they just say go to the service or dont have an opinion about it. I have to wait for 2 weeks at least if i send them and that’s a long time for me without any device...I also opened a topic, would appreciate if you look at it
