I'll be staying with my 7Plus another year. I'm not spending $1000 plus on a XSS release.

If my Xs wasn’t such a great device, sure I’d be willing to upgrade. Maybe in 2021. For now, I don’t even see the rush to get 5G.

Hopefully, by adding wireless charging of other devices. This doesn't waste precious space which could have gone to a larger battery or more robust antenna.

I want the phone to be able to charge itself.

Outfit them with piezoelectric generators. All you have to do is run, jumping jacks or some other high impact cardio activity.:p

The whole ‘number of lenses’ thing reminds me of razor blades. I didn’t need 6 blade razor and probably don’t need a 3 lens camera.

Funny. If you cut yourself with a 6 blade, instead of a little nick, it's a major wound!

Prediction: The wide angle lens will create more of a zoomed out look, but paired with the new possibly "3x" zoom they will market this as 5x zoom.

Any words about force touch?

You mean 3D Touch? (Force Touch was akin to the Apple Watch.) It’s speculated that 3D Touch would be eliminated for the ‘iPhone 11’ and adopt the simulated version of what the XR uses. I personally prefer 3D Touch, but if it was eliminated, it would allow for more internal space for possibly a larger battery.

5G will likely debut with 2020 iPhone, I'm not in a rush either but I may skip this year and buy the new iPhone with 5G. My Xs is great, I'd upgrade only if I had the possibility to do it with the iPhone upgrade program but Apple hasn't launched it yet in my country, so I'll likely skip the 2019 model.

I think the humor missed you entirely.

Well you do need two phones, but one charges the other so you get free electricity, right?

I hope these new phones are taking better low light photos. The Pixel has iPhone Xs beat when it comes to low light photography.

Have you seen the pictures from that ridiculous latest Huawei phone? My friend in the UK went to the top of a mountain and there was very little visibility as it was proper night and got great pics of the mountain scenery with a city way in the distance. Apple needs to step up the low light camera game if they are going to compete with that. It verged on DSLR quality. I'd never get a Huawei though due to the Chinese government's likely spy software and I have way too big an investment in IOS apps.

I like the idea of charging other devices such as other phones or other accessories but I suppose they can't have it charge other phones because then it would be accused of copying Samsung's "charge your friends' phone" feature.

Of course some people wouldn't need it but it's ****ing great to have an option at least.
And still, you can always buy the Xr/XrII? if you don't need that many lenses.

Nonsense, but I’m not surprised at the snark. It’s a huge upgrade for anyone on the iPhone 8 or lower.

obviously i was exaggerating, but only because EACH new model has to be a huge upgrade to the previous. even some s upgrades had some groundbreaking additions(think of the 4s). for now this "new" phone seems very sad.

You think early battery deaths were a problem before? I'm betting two-way charging is gonna wreck the batteries very quickly here... not to mention the heat issues. I have an iPhone 7 and am definitely upgrading... but not sure to what... I may well be staying a model year behind for the first time ever.

You know your battery-powered laptop can charge other devices since like, forever and nothing happened to it, right?

Hope for their sake that they're well along on AR glasses or something, because the iPhone/smartphone has plateaued and isn't a particularly interesting category any more.

It could be interesting but we need software to take advantage of the ridiculously powerful chips we have. Apple needs to keep pruning the OS to keep it as lean as possible. They also need to start investing in first party apps to set the bar for third party developers. The app ecosystem is boring AF at the moment. It's coalesced around games and apps that power other utilities, be that another web service, internet of things controller, your bank or utility company portal. There may be a fitness app in there but if if you drill down, they all abstract to about 5 or 6 types of app. There is no innovation in this area.

I'd like to see Apple get back into supporting hardware; mesh networking, for example. Create IoT devices with a focus on simplicity and privacy. Get back into photo albums. Provide genuine tangible value to consumers. They can be break even businesses that set the bar for third parties. Steve knew the importance of this. Reinforce the iPhone and Watch as the centre of those personal ecosystems. That's what'll keep the iPhone relevant; continually reinventing itself but always fundamental to everything you do.
