You think early battery deaths were a problem before? I'm betting two-way charging is gonna wreck the batteries very quickly here... not to mention the heat issues. I have an iPhone 7 and am definitely upgrading... but not sure to what... I may well be staying a model year behind for the first time ever.

Definitely consider the XR for battery life.

The third camera on the next iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be an ultra-wide-angle lens that enables a broader range of zoom.

Excellent. I use the 2x optical zoom a lot. Having increased optical zoom is going to be so nice.

But what about the innovative Fold? So innovative, you pay $2000 and get nothing?
The only thing I find innovative is the size unfolded.
I would love a 7.3 to 7.5 inch cellular iPad nano, with small bezels/new design for $799 , and the ability to receive and make calls when connected to airpods.
The 7.3 size would be pocketable (at least for me), and it would be a great app and iOS development platform for the future when Apple decides to release a foldable iPhone .

Might want to start planning the purchase of an 8 before they’re gone...
they will not be gone. I think apple will release some kind of 4.7 inch iPhone “ classic” with touchid , a new soc and upgraded camera in the near future. Let’s call it a bigger version of a new se. but I prefer the “classic” name.

Apple's camera game is just not on par with other brands. Even though some pixel lovers still kiss the boot of the pixel devices, they are just not on par too. Take the p30 pro for example. x10 hybrid zoom which makes remarkeble sharp photo's, super macro options, night shots, wide lense etc. The overal capabilities of the p30 pro vs the iphone, or any other "main" brand" is just hilarious. By the time apple has x10 zoom, huawei or oppo or xiaomi can zoom x100 optical in the dark...

Ugliest iPhone in the history, period. If Apple truly releases this ugly square camera bump design, I am done.

While the cameras are better for the average user the quality in camera isn’t that noticeable

You are going to walk away from Apple? Sell your iphone, ipads, apple tv and mac because you don't like the look of the new phone? To each their own I suppose.

This isn't true, taking in the totality of all possible video scenarios. In certain situations the latest iphone cameras are more true-to-life than the p30. So while the 50x zoom is a nice parlor trick, what is more important? Zoom or accuracy. And night sight has to hold the camera steady for seconds...very un-Apple and apple would not implement such a feature like that. And even then one manufacturer doesn't claim every "win" that can be proved by comparing two snaps side by side.

I am due for an upgrade later this year from iPhone 7 Plus, which has been great so far but if they are not offering what I like for this year model, you betcha!. IMO, Apple has been known for innovation, quality, and design. However, over the past few years, TimApple did nothing but milk the products with premium price tag. It's been dull and no wow factor to their product launch other than Apple Watch 4 Series (still no built-in sleep tracking). It's hard for me to say this but Samsung Galaxy S10+ looks way better at the moment. If you can open your eyes beyond the hate for anything but Apple, you will start to notice that difference and I give credit where it's due. Even though I love Apple products, I won't be an iSheep or blind fanboy because let's face it, Apple iPhone has become...boring.

You have to do what's best for you. However, one thing I will say is that innovation is a personal, moving definition and if you find the iphone has become boring for you than you should what your heart and mind tells you to do. I bought the max and may go in for the 11max or XI max or whatever it will be called.

I have no problem being an isheep or blind fanboy, because I think apple products are the best out there for me (and I love using apple products) for a laundry list of reasons.

iPhone XI is looks quite interesting. I currently use the Xs.

1 mm thinker due to larger battery is good.

Apple should use 'know-how' and make iPhone XI very slip resistant in the hand.

More camera features is good.

One reason Apple sold 17% fewer iPhones last quarter is the cost for a new iPhone. Apple needs to readjust its mark-up. Apple is going big-time with "services". This means they need more devices sold, not less, right.

"Increased Zoom", going after Huawei's P30 Pro it seems like.

I hope that the fact they're making them thicker proves the previous rumour of the increased battery. My X battery is dreadful.
I don't mind them being a little thicker to have better speakers and better battery life. At the gym people try to lift as much as they can but if a phone is 10 grams to heavy they start to complain o_O

BMW's had two headlights for a long time (regular and high beam). Cameras these days have macro, portrait, wide and tele.. Can't all be in one lens at that size. Even the Big cameras require different lenses which are huge and need to switched out for proper picture to be taken. It's either a setup like that or like that of the Huawei P30 Pro. They probably stuck with this so they would not be accused of copying Huawei ;):p

So apple is still going to keep the exact same design every three years, how boring... The competition is getting fiercer and fiercer. I'm not saying apple should introduce a whole new design every year, but why can't apple at least make the bezels and notch smaller make some small improvements here and there, just like facelifts in cars.

But most of 'the competition' have designs that look pretty much the same year on year, too.

Wake me up when 'the competition' get around to making internals that can compete with Apples custom ARM chips.

I don’ t agree. The best designs are designs that don’ t try to cover up function. I like the industrial look of the XI concepts. Those 3 lenses on their own, look quite nice, and the design is looking better and better each day. If apple applies a good finish and nice materials, i’ll Probably get an XI max. It is a shame they didn’ t do anything about shrinking the notch though. Next year probably.

My prediction: All Chinese brands will try to copy the camera of the iphone XI after release.

Maybe you missed this:

MacRumors logic: when Android copies Apple, Apple should sue. When Apple does something similar, everyone borrows from each other.

And I don’t agree with you. Apple is capable of and could design something better. It could design something that is both pleasing to the eye and providing functionality at same time.

Heck, I'll still probably keep my iPhone X. The camera on the X is fine for me. Not seeing a reason to make an upgrade to anything else as of yet.
urrr wide angle lens?

if you count 6 til 8, that is 4 years (on base new model)

All three iPhones will look similar to the current versions beyond additional cameras, including triple-lens rear camera systems on both the next iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max and a dual-lens rear camera system on the next iPhone XR, each housed within a square camera bump.
correct

Wrong, didn't happened

Apple is working on an "auto-correction feature" to "fit people back into a photo who may have been accidentally cut out."
Besides this, there's also auto-correction for zooming on video , which is more amazing
