The whole ‘number of lenses’ thing reminds me of razor blades. I didn’t need 6 blade razor and probably don’t need a 3 lens camera.

Exactly. Apple is a marketing company that happens to make electronics. Six-core A12 Biomic LUL. Yeah okay. SIX CORES!!! Such a gimmick. I’ma wait for the A21 The Bestest Best Bionic with eleventy cores. LUL.

ugh, people still complaining about the notch?

good luck not upgrading for the next 5 years

No problem. I'll wait that long if need be, though I think it will be 3 years max. Probably the 2020 cycle will have either no notch or a significantly reduced notch. The Apple design department eventually catches up.

Poor Jony Ive. To have to design these monstrosities just because the industry wants multiple lens in their phones. An all black glass surface in the back could hide the awkward lens arrangement

Wider angle? 28mm is already WAF
It's about field of view, not width...two totally different things.

Have you seen the way the Huawei phones do it? Essentially it's the vertical 2 camera bump they already have now, but more lenses in a row. It looks MUCH better aesthetically than these do.

Wish there was a way to temporarily turn of OIS so it wouldn't interfere with gimbals.
I know, I know, I'm small segment of users but still wish there was an option.

I thought gimbals went out of business in the 80s...? Did Santa bring it back? ;)

I upgraded to the 8+ figuring I'd have to wait out the current notch a few cycles. By the time Apple gets rid of it, it should be around the time I'll be needing an upgrade.

I upgraded from the iPhone 8 Plus to my iPhone X. Oh man, what a huge improvement! The swipe interface is awesome, the transparent authentication via FaceID is awesome, the OLED screen is awesome, the telephoto lens is stabilized and lets in more light... TouchID iPhones seem so antiquated to me - huge bezels above and below, you're pressing the home button all the time: to log in, to exit an app, to switch apps... You can’t wake the phone by touching the screen. The tiniest bit of moisture and TouchID doesn’t work.

I have a 2019 iPad Mini, and the whole TouchID thing is such a wacky throwback, but otherwise I love it.

Do you upgrade you car, dishwasher, fridge, toaster every damn year? NO. Smarphones are a mature utilitarian product now. Like cars and stoves and every other utility the upgrades year over year are going to get less and less.

Not sure how this is shocking news anymore to justify the constant whining from those who expect a groundbreaking new product every damn year. GET OVER IT.

P.S. For those of you who want massive change every year, Samsung has a Galaxy fold to sell you and then cancel your order.
"Like cars and stoves and every other utility the upgrades year over year are going to get less and less."

There's a description for this phenomena => Mature Market

Maybe with three cameras they can triangulate for a better AR experience? Not sure how far apart they'd have to be to see significant improvements...

And you're telling me I wont be able to 'accidentally' cut people out of my photos with newer phones? :D

Right. Because Jony Ive is the only one designing all these products by himself while all other members of the Industrial Design team are in the conference room playing Fortnite all day long.

so no ultra wide angle on the R? Lame.
I suppose some people will move up to the 11/11 Max to get features that aren’t available on the 11R. It’s reasonably common for the less expensive phones in the lineup not to have all the features that the most expensive phones have.

More lies. Is that all you’re capable of posting is made-up BS?

You, me and millions of other 6s owners. I will NEVER buy a phone with a notch. Plain and simple, It’s just a terrible design.
I have a 6s and it runs amazingly well on iOS 12. But I might go ahead and upgrade this year to an 11 or 11R. The notch doesn’t bother me in the least, but for those it does, they definitely shouldn’t buy a phone that has one!

The 8 would be a great upgrade from a 5/5s/6/6s for those who don’t like the notch, or they can wait for 5-10 years to see if it goes away. Might be better just to switch to Android though.

significantly reduced notch is still a notch that people will complain about. i’m talking about those people. and it’ll be 5 years imo before notch completely goes away

Lol the image looks like what you would see if you open the phone and remove the back cover during repair :D:D:p
It really is horrendous.

Right. Because Jony Ive is the only one designing all these products by himself while all other members of the Industrial Design team are in the conference room playing Fortnite all day long.

When I look at the design of 2019 iPhones, I think your assumption is not that far from reality.

I’d say that’s not true. Look at the comparison of the XR compared to the XS, both offer true tone, wireless charging, same A13 processor, stereo speakers, etc. The XR is highly competitive to the XS in some of _major_ features. In addition, it’s the same features Apple markets that they want the consumer to see. Generally consumers when they’re choosing a phone, they see the same form factor with Face ID, and they’re only selecting the storage and color.

It better have night vision shots akin to that Google phone (can’t remember the name) and Huawei.

I'd actually be happy with an iOS change, permanently blacking out the ear area and preventing the body of apps from using it, reserving it for notification and status icons.
