Why is is called a "Lidar Scanner". Surely nothing "scans", it's a special (Infineon?) imaging chip + modulated laser that flood-illuminates the scene. Or is there really a scanner there?

I far prefer the flat-edged design in some previous iPhones to the rounded soap bars before and after, I think the iPad Pro looks beautiful. If they refuse to make another small iPhone to replace my SE, this might at least soften the blow for me a little when I’m forced to replace it at some point. Would prefer no notch though.

I think rounded edges make sense on larger phones where you have to grip it more tightly and this makes the phone fit better in your hand.

Flat edges are less of an issue on a smaller phone like the 5. I imagine on a larger phone, it might be less comfortable to hold?

Scattered thoughts:

The notch is and always will be a ‘Non-issue’. Period. If Apple does/is able to minimize it with the maturity of technology, then great. But otherwise, it could stay the way it is for all I care.

I’d like to see something happen with the HomePod this year, Not that it doesn’t produce good sound/‘need’ an upgrade in that respect, but to keep it relevant in Apple’s lineup, Maybe introduce a smaller version.

The Apple tags will happen, there’s definitely a market for this, I’m just curious how Apple will price these in a ‘grouped segment‘.

Opinions and preferences will vary, and that's fine. I prefer flatter edges regardless of the device's size. My hands don't change size :)
I bought flat-edged cases for my iPhone 6 because I found the rounded edges slippy in my hand. Rounded edges might be ever-so slightly more comfortable, in the same way that (to use a slightly-exaggerated analogy) a wet bar of soap is more 'comfortable' than a dry block of wood. But I'd rather hold a block of wood that doesn't slip out of my hand, and also looks nicer (IMHO) than a bar of soap that I think looks worse and makes it more likely I'd drop it. Especially if it cost 3 or even 4 figures! :)

Exactly. They had to make rounded edges in 4.7+ inch phones in order to avoid grip issues. Can't imagine holding a plus/max phone with ipad pro flat edges for a longer period of time, and my hands are quite big and skinny so almost everything fit them.

The HomePod needs bigger sound, not smaller footprint. It’s already diminutive. Why not a bigger HomePod, with bigger drivers, maybe some medium range too, for same price as now?
While we're at it, why not Ferrari pace in a Ford Mondeo, for the same price? What are you talking about.

Why not offer a larger option for $349 and the original HomePod for $199.

offer a subwoofer for range sound

I loved iPhone 5, best design ever. Too bad this year people will be on low budget, because 5G + new design would have guaranteed a huge success. Not sure I’ll upgrade my Xs, but if I don’t buy a new phone this year I’ll upgrade in 2021 and I’m sure by then I’ll enjoy a new design

I bought 2 of my HomePods for $199 each when they were on sale a few months ago. I thought that was a great price for them and would love to see them at that price all the time. For my use, I don't really need a larger one as I find the output of the current design more than adequate for any of the rooms in my house but that is all personal preference. If they did lower the price on the current model it would certainly make room for a higher end product. Personally, my biggest hope for the product line is pushing software updates to Siri.

Sounds good, let’s see about the pricing, which will be a big factor for so many people this year.

Agreed, prepare for a potential huge drop in smartphones sales if Apple is stubbornly unable to come up with notchless screen design.

As an iPhone 11 user, I can assure you that you do not notice the notch at all while using the iPhone, as your attention is naturally directed more to the middle of the screen. Try it. 🖐

I agree $199 should have been the price from day one. They sell great at $199. I bought one and am waiting for them to hit that price again before I buy another. I have money ready for it.

I’m more open to a subwoofer option. Like Sonos offers.
