I loved the square design of the iPhone 5. I’m still not sure I could give up my iPhone 6s and lose Touch ID. That may be the deciding factor.

Apple are also rumoured to be coming up with iPhone SE2/9 or whatever they call it, based on iPhone 6-8 chassis design, but with modern internals. If the rumours are right, it might be announced as soon as this week. 🖐

The HomePod needs bigger sound, not smaller footprint. It’s already diminutive. Why not a bigger HomePod, with bigger drivers, maybe some medium range too, for same price as now?

Agree. I'd even pay more for a larger HomePod with larger drivers.

HomePod with no speaker and digital / 3.5mm / bluetooth output. Priced at $75. It will never happen.
iPhone 4mm taller and 4mm tall notch the full width of the screen. It will never happen.
Headphone jack........

I far prefer the flat-edged design in some previous iPhones to the rounded soap bars before and after, I think the iPad Pro looks beautiful. If they refuse to make another small iPhone to replace my SE, this might at least soften the blow for me a little when I’m forced to replace it at some point. Would prefer no notch though.

Good luck to anyone who would be excited about it, but I have no interest in HomePod, so it’s very ironic to me if that’s the device they are rumoured to want to make a smaller version of (rather than the small iPhone I‘d actually want) are you actually serious Apple?! Feels like trolling, a little bit Lol. Gotta laugh. None of this is really important.
I like the look of the flat design but always found it uncomfortable to hold and was very happy when the 6 shape came out for my poor soft danny paws.

I'm all for the flat edges like the current IPP's sport, and especially the old iPhone design.

Great! This means I made the right decision buying the 11 Pro. Now I can hold off buying another iPhone until they go back to rounded edges and move to a notchless design :) Sharp edges are:
A: Less comfortable to hold
B: More prone to leave ugly marks on your pants

Correct, that will never happen.

No speakers, no beamforming-driven adaptive room equalization. No reason to exist.

Just use a cheap BT speaker (that you may already have and your phone for Siri commands).

"Tim Cook quits"

That's not going to happen, either.

The flat screen with no rounded edges rumour is interesting.

I remember reading a comment Corning about their latest gorilla glass and they said that if it had a rounded edge and protruded from the main housing of a smartphone, that compromised the strength of the glass.

Obviously this is exactly what Apple’s current phones do!

Apple doesn't seem serious about HomePod. Still not for sale in many countries, too expensive for what it offers being handcuffed by the poor performance of Siri. Drop it Tim and spend the resources (human and monetary) on core products.

The notch doesn't nor ever did bother me. I still like it better than a home button and Touch ID.

I've been waiting for the new iPhones to come out to upgrade. my Xr is just about paid off. I was mainly waiting for the 5G upgrade to be ahead of the curve.

Call me an idiot, but ditch the rounded edges and bring back the square design, and I'll wait in line for this shiet. It'll be the best retro design change in recent memory.

The current crop of rounded phones are just to hard to grasp & easy to drop. I would love it if they brought back the squared off design. I think it would be a good choice.

The HomePod already has excellent sound.

It needs to be smaller and cheaper to appeal to more people.

It needs better features to appeal to more people. Audiophiles aside, most people today buying a speaker want good sound and a smart speaker. Siri, while much improved, still needs a lot of work. (And a sense of humor programmed in. Man, is she dry and not at all witty.)

The HomePod wasn't a sales dud because it didn't sound good. Even with $100 pretty much being chopped off for ages now at most retailers, it's not selling well. Siri just needs to be a more compelling assistant.

Bloomberg is certainly not any “news organization” I would trust for Apple “news” after the reporting they did a year or so ago about “Chinese embedded spy chips” on Apple and other companies product produced by Chinese-based manufacturing companies.

After making this expose, they could not produce a single piece of evidence — either showing this embedded chip or how they ascertained the information — and every vendor named investigated the claim and flatly denied it.

Bloomberg flatly refused to withdraw the claim or acknowledge the “error of their ways.”

Bloomberg — that whole fiasco turned them into another faux news on technical reporting.

as suspected, it'll have a notch. I can wait for next year. I won't pay for another notch, even though it's not a deal breaker, I'd still rather not pay 1000 plus bucks for another notch phone that often gets in the way of movies.

I recently switched back to an iPhone from Android (mainly out of boredom and wanting something different). Face ID is pretty awesome.... but that notch is far more annoying to me than how awesome Face ID is. The in screen finger print sensors are pretty flawless now. Even a smaller notch is still going to be bulbous compared to Android phones that have pretty much gotten it down to a small, nearly non-obtrusive punch hole.

The whole look at your screen and swipe up is not as intuitive as put your finger on the screen and voila the device just opens. And it really is a screen real estate vampire. Alas, I doubt Apple will do this after pushing Face ID so heavily, but will throw it on my wish list.

I disagree with this on two fronts. HomePod is not a product like iphone and doesn't need an abundance of hardware updates...software updates sure.

Apple has the resources to work on Homepod and something else. It's like the meme, Apple can't work on emojis and update IOS at the same time, that's been parroted on MR.

Don't think I said anything about hardware updates.

Of course Apple has the resources to work on HomePod and something else. I didn't say it didn't. It just seems that whatever resources (meagre or substantial) are being spent on HomePod seem to be wasted.

With the state of the world I don't even really care about this stuff this year. The only thing I'm kinda interested in is picking up an updated MBP so I can get out of my basement while working. I only have a 5K iMac at the moment. But then on the other hand, who even knows if I'll have a job later this year?
