I imagine more and more folks will do similarly. The AW is a maturing product and thus the model to model differences are increasingly evolutionary, incenting fewer existing owners to make a single-model upgrade.
Yeah, my AW6 is pretty fast so I would have really liked to see a much better software update or better SDK so developers can take advantage of everything in an easier fashion. I‘m not sure why every app isn't LTE compatible but I’m also not a developer. When Apple leads with filler updates like their Breath app you know they are not doing much To improve this year.

You know a lot more about Apple marketing than their engineering. Apple's longhand belief that they only compete with themselves is a lie they tell themselves that fans then promulgate further. No one is saying Apple isn't innovative or is lazy. Apple races and fights for all things iPhone but doesn't have the same fervor for hugely successful products like Apple Watch. Why don't they care about Watch apps or adding useful sensors that Chinese makers have been using for years? The answer is because they don't have to.
What pray tell is it that you think Apple is missing the boat on for sensors or technologies that Chinese watch manufacturers are currently offering? And as far as apps on the Watch go, isn’t that something that app developers should be pushed on?

I still stick with my original point. Apple’s brief on the Watch, including their 5 year future planning, has all sorts of potential sensors and technologies that may indeed include things introduced on Chinese consumer product brands, or Israeli or US or UK companies products. They clearly don’t need other companies to push them forward - that’s the fallacy those that are on the outside looking in often have, which includes many who want Apple to act more like a Samsung and spit out new things just because they can to see what sticks - and are then unhappy when they don’t get what they perceive to be the right product or technology or service.

Stop complaining everybody. Thanks to our demanding attitudes Apple has to launch new iPhones, Watches and iPads every year.

Remember when they took 3 years to develop an Mac OS X release? But now we want MORE, MORE, MORE. FASTER, FASTER, FASTER.

We're never satisfied. Even if Apple would launch an Apple Watch that could fly us to the moon, you guys would complain wHy iT dOeSn'T fLy uS tO mArS.

Yeah, Apple has HAD to release hardware every year for many years because we demand them to, and it definitely doesn’t have anything to do with making more money. 🙄

but but but... how else could we give them all of our money if they didn't release new stuff every year?? :D

Same thought. Lack of new sensors. Last year, they had the always on, O2 meter and altitude meter, so there was a reason to upgrade.
The 02 meter that was rightfully flamed for being literally useless because of how unreliable and inaccurate it is. They really should have waited until it was ready for prime time but I guess they needed something "new" to try and push.

I was hoping they'd have a revised version of that sensor for this year that could garner FDA approval (others have done so) because it's actually a worthwhile feature if its results could be trusted.

I was hoping for glucose trending, that would be interesting, and far more useful than the anemic blood ox trend. If this rumor is true, I'll pass for the first time. My wrist isn't dainty and the watch is currently a good size, thinner isn't enough to roll this year.

I mean....what new features could there be? Other than longer battery life I dont know what could be improved.
Thermometer (body temperature and air temperature)
UV sensor
Larger screen (make it rectangular along the arm, can't get much higher)

And better battery life is feasible, by better SoC smarts, even apart from better battery.

Of course there's a ton of stuff to be improved in watchOS -- and probably over the next few years there will be repeated pain as the next good idea collides with not enough RAM, same as happened for iPhone/iPad repeatedly over the first few years, so might as well add more RAM in advance.

I'm not convinced there's anything useful that can be done with a camera on the wrist, but maybe Facebook will show me how limited my imagination is...

All of you say you don’t want it now but just wait until you see the new design. You will want it regardless of its features. Myself included!

Those guys sound like whining brats. Not a hint of gratitude for features. Just complaints.

What’s more scary is they believe their decision to buy or not buy will shock Apple. Or shock someone. Umm… the truth is, nobody will even notice if those complaining brats never buy a new watch ever again.

As if the engineers in Apple owe them something. Meanwhile, millions of watches get sold by Apple.

Won’t someone think of the poor defenseless trillion dollar company?

Disappointing. At least I save a couple hundred this year by not upgrading.
I’m sure Apple’s share price will collapse, now that you feel it will be… what was it… DISAPPOINTING.

The watch has not yet been released, but you are already feeling disappointed. Surely revenues will collapse. Apple is in great danger now because they have disappointed you. Yes. You are very important.

This year's Apple Watch Series 7 is likely to have thinner display bezels and use a new lamination technique that brings the display closer to the front cover, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

From the report:
The model will also include updated ultra-wideband functionality, the same underlying technology in Apple's AirTag item finder, according to Gurman, although additional biometric health sensors are likely to be pushed back to a successor model.
Apple previewed its upcoming watchOS 8 software update at WWDC last week, demonstrating previously unseen features such as the ability for Apple Watch to unlock door and hotel rooms. It was not clear at the time which Apple Watch models these new features would be made for, but Gurman's report suggests they could be exclusive to the forthcoming Series 7.

Gurman previously reported that Apple is working on a more rugged "extreme sports" model of the Apple Watch and that it could launch as soon as this year. However, Gurman has now revised that expectation and says that it won't arrive until 2022 at the earliest. Apple is also said to be planning a revised model of the Apple Watch SE for launch next year, according to the report. Apple launched the latter model in 2020 as a more affordable alternative to the Series 6.

Sorry but unless Security doors by HID which uses 20 MHz on their security cards is unique to the Watch 7, which I highly doubt - as I’ve worked wtih an HID tech and administered that tech’s implementation with C-Cure 9000 administration software and seeing the IOS app … again I highly doubt Gurman on this topic.

ESPECIALLy since WatchOS was featured in having this, HID support, and nothing stated about specific to a Watch version.

If you made the watch any thinner, you'll loose the crown.. Plus, i reckon there is always a trade-off between features and how thin you can make something

Apple Watch Series 6 already has the U1 chip.
yup, I don't know what's wrong with the one in there now...
Sounds/looks like a "pass". Since AW4, there's nothing game changing...
Agreed, hope they do at least one major upgrade.
noooo. Blood sugar level reading not likely for several more years.....Waiting "several more years" for anything positive that's diabetic related seems to be all we diabetics do...However the several more years never seems to come to an end....
Yes! I agree, I have a friend who has diabetes, and I keep telling him "sounds like you'll be in luck this year."...

Ha ha!! Same here! Hope they do a redesign, it's been a while!

The sense of entitlement is truly staggering. You have a touch screen that can play music, take an ECG, connect to wifi and Bluetooth, records a ton of health info and alerts you when it detects issues, runs apps, has GPS navigation, lets you take pictures from your phone camera, lets you contact anyone via text or voice, lets you open your garage, etc etc etc… all in a tiny little box with less volume than a floss container, worn on your wrist.

“ugh apple where’s the temperature sensor already get your R&D under control BORING RELEASE”
Agreed. #italreadydoesthat

No, Apple releases those products on a yearly basis because they know they can sell them on a yearly basis and generate a crap ton of volume and more importantly, a crap ton of revenue... and profit. Never forget the profit. The idea that Apple does yearly releases because customer's demanding attitude is absurd. Apple planned those products from the ground up with yearly release schedules being a critical part of the product life cycle.

The products that don't generate a crap ton of volume, don't get yearly releases. Apple releases what they release, when they want to release, and include the features they want in the release regardless of what customers want. They always have.

Of course people are never satisfied. It's part and parcel of being people. Never being satisfied is how people got to the moon in the first place. It's how they're going to get to mars.
Wow. Well put. Thank you!

I mean most other smart watches already do that. Most ppl just see these things as standard at this point

I rather have them focus enhancing the exercises we have with better calculations/metrics and more sport activities to track.

I dont need them to release a new AW, iphone etc every year. just put the damn cycle to every 2 year or even 3 for my part, i hate these little incremental upgrades.

I have a AW4, and dont miss AOD because i feel that is a privacy invasion when i get pop ups etc, i dont want my colleagues etc to see what is shown there.

Sleep tracking is nice but i cant use it because i need to charge my battery end of day because empty due workout tracking. Give us the battery build into bracelets for the AW7 and i am in.

EGC is nice but took a half year to be released in my country, and its still not enhanced between AW4 and AW6, its a one time off feature that was added.

There is still much live in the existing AW 3,4,5,6 that can be elevated from a software level. But they don't continue developments only bugfixes/hotfixes.

I wanted a AW7 but realised my AW4 is still perfectly fine, the O2 meter is nice but still wildly inaccurate so not sure how much that will help me, EGC is not really necessary for me as i am still far below the age off 50

If you doing lots off workouts each day your battery gets drained so fast. I run, ride bike and walk and its all being recorded in workouts and at the end of the day my battery is 30%~ they need to optimize this first. Instead giving us half baked stuff.

The AW6 is still lackluster on so many levels it does not justify replacing my AW4 which still has great battery life and is fast and snappy.
