I don’t want USB-C plug on a device that I have to charge everyday. The physical plug of USB-C is one of the worst USB connector ever created. The only good thing about it that it is reversable. Keep Lightning, just make it faster. In fact, make every Apple device only use (a faster) Lightning port… Yes… Macbooks too…

Is it worse then the mini/micro USB connectors ( which incidentally, at least for micro usb) put too much strain on the device side connector wich made the connector actually duslidge from the mb on the device? Remember USB-C was newly designed as a replacement for micro USB, that it now ( because EU regs) also replaces lightning is more incidental

USB-C ports need to be rated for at least 10k insertion/extraction cycles and still have satisfactory retention force.

Apple already sports USB-C on their iPads so it's not that they would do anything novel by migrating the iPhones. I have the 2018 iPad Pro with USB-C and in 4 years of usage have zero problems with the port. I plug it for charging daily.

I assume the design decision to have the USB-C pins covered was to be able to more safely offer high power delivery. AFAIK the original USB-C power delivery specification allows for up to 5A * 20V = 100W. The newest standard bumps that up to 5A * 48V = 240W.

if Apple wanted they could've had USB-C in iPhones long ago but they only care about $ and USB-C doesn't allow that but Lightning makes them a lot of it.

It's not like they are only just testing this and it's something new to them. They are holding out as long as possible and hoping they can go all wireless charging on their devices. Forcing people to adopt magsafe will make Apple more $. they'll include a magsafe puck with USB-C (cable not supplied for "environmental" reasons)

Personally i don't have an issue with Lightning. it charges my phone and that's all i need it to do. It's a little inconvenient to switch cables when charging my iPhone/iPad but it's not the end of the world. but i'd still rather they go with USB-C

This should have happened years ago. And it should happen because USB-C is fundamentally better than lightning — more reliable, faster charging, interoperable. It shouldn’t require, or be based upon, government regulation to get this done.
But it is. Because companies love to get proprietary stuff out there that locks customers into their ecosystem.
Apple is definitely no exception.

So it’s great that the EU government is stepping up. They are doing great stuff in Europe, too bad they get a bad rep because of nationalists.

I don't care which port is better. THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

The point is that USB-C is ubiquitous, and Lightning is not, and will never be. Period.

I'm sick and tired of carrying a separate Lightning - USB-C cable exclusively for my darned phone. Nothing else on Earth uses this friggin' port. And I'd just carry an adapter instead, except for the fact that THERE ISNT ANY.

So dear Apple, do away with it. Thank you.

At least for the iPhone 14 Pro. But ok, my iP11Pro ist good for at least 1-3 years. But for sure, my next iP will have USB-C. No more outdated technology for me.

I charge my iPad Pro every day with USB-C since 2018. The plug and the connector feel like new. I use my 2019 MBP Pro USB cable and carger to do this.

Everything feels like new. Apple uses high quality USB-C connectors and ports. In the meantime at least two Ligthning cables broke and eyeryone saw a Lighting cable break, this is just what those cables do.

??But airpods will still have lightning cause Apple loves fragmentation now.
This is what the EU regulation tells you:
Every electronic device big enough to incorporate USB-C, has to implement it. Any more questions?

Yeah, really - i mean:
Keyboards
Trackpads
Mice
youname it ….

After I bought iPad Pro (2020) and MacBook Pro 16" (2019), I realised I could transfer the files between both devices using the USB-C cable. I would never go back to the old days of using iCloud, Dropbox, AirDrop (worst method!), thumb drive, etc. to transfer between both devices. Using the USB-C cable, the transfer of the 5 GB files is so blazing quick (about 5 seconds or so). I could transfer the multiple files at once as well.

Seriously, Apple should have ditched the Lightning port for iPhone a long time ago. it is real pain in the arse at the beginning to have different cables and points for iPhone, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, and Apple Watch. I ended up buying the new Lightning-to-USB-C cables and additional USB-C chargers. I have so many iPhone chargers with USB-A socket that I don't use much anymore.

While at this subject, Apple should have offered the USB-C chargers with TWO or THREE USB-C points, especially the one included in the iPad Pro. I end up toting four chargers in my messenger bag/weekend bag for travelling: two USB-A chargers for iPhone and Watch and two USB-C chargers for iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. I could use my MacBook Pro's USB-C points to recharge iPhone, iPad Pro, and Apple Watch, but I would have to bring USB-C/Lightning or Magnetic cables along, totalling 6 cables. Many hotels don't have many electric points or offer the power stripes or USB-A/USB-C points.

If Apple does offer iPhone 15 PRO with USB-C, I would sell my iPhone 13 Pro and buy the iPhone 15 Pro in a heartbeat then ditch all of USB-A/Lightning cables and chargers.

How hard is it to switch the iPhone to USB-C? Seriously. Come on Apple. At least the iPhone Pro models. Just do it already. Sheesh. All the iPads have it. I usually come to Apple’s defense, but at this point, it’s embarrassing. The majority of people want the switch. It’s almost like Apple is not doing it out of spite. Yeah I know, I heard all the rumors of how Apple wants to transition to a totally port-less iPhone in the future. But that ain’t happening for awhile. Might as well make the majority of their users happy in the meantime. Make the switch to USB-C Apple. Just Do it!

Lightning is a bad port. It's unreliable. There is no reason for it to exist.

It's more convenient to put a Lightning cable into a Lightning port than an USB-C cable into an USB-C port.
The lightning port and cable allows more wiggle room and being more inaccurate wen connecting.

I think eventually Pro models would have type C and the regular ones will have magsafe. Type C is not just a port, it has too many functions (Video, high speed transfer, high speed charging) that would increase cost if implemented on non pro model.

I understand that those are two slightly different issues (Apple’s cord covering vs USB-C connectors) BUT if durability were the concern, wouldn’t Apple have released a more durable cable of their own?

It probably has to do with the materials used in the cables. AFAIK, Apple removed some materials because they were environmentally questionable.
