For the 27-inch iMac I would like to be able to watch my Blu-ray discs on it and possibly burn the disc so I can include footage in my YouTube film reviews (that part is still up in the air for me since I don't know what kind of copyright infringements I could possibly get). Since the Apple USB SuperDrive only does DVDs, I'm looking for both a Blu-ray USB optical drive and the software to properly play the discs. Any recommendations?

I have one made by Samsung, it is fine, except if a dusk sits in it for a few days, it occasionally unmounts and disappears on the finder.

The only way to correct this is to restart the computer or re-plug the USB back in.

Other than that, it works great.

As for software, I have only used a few free ones for playback. I think VLC works with Bluerays.

I have never burned a BR, so I never had to use any software for this.
