No it doesn't, and why would i want it to?
ive never played a DVD on my iMac or PC. I have a DVD player and a BR player hooked up to a 60 inch plasma. Why would i want to watch it on a 17inch or 24inch screen. Fair enough for HTPC users then you can play the specific m2ts file through plex or xmbc.
And as downloads go , it will be a while before the world can accommodate HD downloads that are close to BR quality. Personally i hope it doesn't happen, because you can bet that each store will tie there movies in DRM, and there will be alot of trouble between different devices and the different stores offering content. At least now you can buy a BD movie from any store and play it on any BD player
Don't forget hat your wants aren't necessarily congruent with reality. So you have a notebook, that are generally made for .... traveling with, so if you goto a hotel room and say oooh i'll play that BR movie now.... nope! sorry![]()
Where's your 60" Plasma / BR Player now? huh? huh?
Don't forget your not the only person in the world and not everyone has the same needs as you![]()

Why would I want to carry around a bunch of easily scratchable discs with me when I have a HDD that can store any video file I want, load it faster than an optical disc and use considerably less power on my notebook. Taking DVDs with you whilst traveling is a fool's task and a PITA.
I'm all for copying BR discs to HD, but it's very hard/impossible depending on what movie you have.

You are also not considering that in order for Apple to include a BRD it has to A) increase the size of their machines considerably in order to keep the cost of the BRD equivalent to that of other vendors, or B) charge considerably more to have the currently non-existent 9.5mm BRD brought to market. None of that makes sense for a technology that is not popular with the vast majority of mobile users.

It's hard to copy BR movies to disc, due to copy protection. HD downloads don't make up for it, as they are of lower quality and some people don't have such fast internet connections/download limits in the world. http://www.laptopsarena.com/panasonic-95-mm-blu-ray-samples-shipped/
They are starting to exist, well in time for Apple to start looking at putting these into their laptops.
Also WHAT THE HELL? i'm not dreaming of taking BR to a hotel with me... IM DOING IT NOW.... hell even a £279 Toshiba has bluray!!!!
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?0&page=ProductList&category_oid=-35842&show_all=true
Of course it's not a macbook pro but the prices are coming down and it's becoming more mainstream.
And it's NOT a fools task... stop calling me a fool!!! thank you very much, i take DVD's with me, i play them in my car and i play them on my laptop.... ITS A BLOODY PORTABLE MEDIUM!!!
that is exactly my opinion, HDD are so much easier to carry around, hell i could copy a couple of my favourite movies onto my 500gb internal laptop HD to watch them! then i dont need to carry anything around at all....
that program for PC seems to work pretty darn fine..
your forgetting probably one important fact, apple uses slot-loading drives! the panasonic drive is a tray-loading, so that is never going to happen.
in regards to that pcworld link, there wasnt even a Toshiba laptop on the webpage!! and the 279 pound (cant do the symbol) laptop doesnt even have a DVD drive... its a pathetic machine, exactly what i would expect for such a low price.
It must have gone! there was a Toshiba for £279 with BluRay, that had been advertised here on TV. My POINT is that if these can add a BluRay drive then surely apple can. My point also was that there are 9.5mm drives out there, DID I EVER SAY APPLE SHOULD ADD A TRAY DRIVE? i'm sure if they pushed matsushita (panasonic) they would make it slot loading!
I hate the fanboys that think just because apple decide it won't be added then thou shalt follow...... (thinking of the funny jesus speech on Monty Python).
I LOVE my macbook pro, hell even my Alu Powerbook looks better than most PC laptops out there but i just hate how apple are neglecting their computer division.
Just FYI, most modern laptops don't use their CPUs to decode MPEG-2/AVC/VC-1; they use the dedicated functions of the GPUs to offload that processing. That's exactly what my Popcorn Hour does. It barely has enough processing power on that pathetic MIPS CPU to even run a torrent program, yet it doesn't break a sweat when decoding 1080p H.264 because there's a sweet Sigma ASIC that does all that heavy lifting. It can definitely be done on a laptop and it already has (i.e. ATI Avivo HD, Nvidia PureVideo HD).but seriously... do you REALLY think that a 1.83GHZ Pentium would even run that!!!! would it be able to maintain the high demanding decoding of the BD/HDDVD's?? i for one do not think that it would be remotely possible.

Um, i dont have a notebook. And if i was traveling and staying in a Hotel room, why would BR be on my mind
because he thinks that you might watch movies in the hotel room>>??<<
What if I am pitching to or showing a client some material for a project which involves the use of Blu-ray material and or Blu-ray authoring? And the at the studio we have almost an entirely Mac based suite. Should we not be able to rely on Apple to keep their computer line up to date so we can continue to produce content which is fit for the current trends or should we move to a Windows and Linux based workflow now since Apple don't seem to care what the Pro Industry want and need?

I agree Apple should get their act together, but my dispute was not about Apple supporting Blu ray but that i only watch it on a plasma and not on a laptop
I don't think it matters, i'd rather watch my blu rays on my big screen than my little notebook screen
Highly doubtful.
Apple and Microsoft want the future to be HD downloads, not BluRay.
Sony has lost this war, they just don't realize it yet.
What war? I like to see the stats and sources where you are pulling such information.
