I was getting frustrated with my Case-mate Vrooom case, because it was already stretched out after just a few weeks, and did not fit well. It did when new, but lately has been slipping over the camera and the piece around the bottom port was really floppy/flimsy feeling.

So last night, I dunked it in boiling water for about a minute. It did seem to help the fit quite a bit, at least for a while. I doubt it'll be permanent, though. But a side benefit was that it cleaned it really well... all the lint is gone! lol!

Looking forward to my Otterbox Commuter and Speck HD cases.

Is this thread for real???

Makes me want to eat the bumper for dinner - served with spaghetti sauce and cheese.

Make mine with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese! :p
It's been a pleasure beating this dead horse.:D

All nonsense aside, I put mine in boiling water for a minute or so. Fits perfectly now. :)

It's not all that crazy. I boil suction cups all the time. The type that hold GPS, radar detectors etc. They become flattened and distorted over time. Gives them a new life. :D

Anyone that watches my video can see for themselves that this is real. After boiling I'm actually using my bumper again. Now it feels like it's part of the phone instead of something loosely wrapped around the phone.

I used the blowdryer method, and yup, it does indeed make your bumper fit more snug around the phone.

so bumpers for dinner, and candyshells for... dessert? oh the irony!

I just got done watching the video and I already have a pot of water on the stove. I kinda like the way the bumper looks but i didn't like the way it fit so just a few days after I got it I took it off and threw it on a shelf. Thanks for posting the video. I hope this helps.

I think the cooling part is unnecessary and causes the distortion because it cools unevenly. I put mine in boiling water (microwaved) and let it sit about a minute or two. Took it out, dried it and let it cool in the air. No distortion and a return to the natural shape before the phone stretched it out of shape a little. Perfect fit. :)

Wow. Must admit that I was skeptical, but decided to try it since I was getting fed up with the looseness of my white bumper. Just a few minutes, and now the bumper is snug and fits absolutely perfect.

That's good stuff but for snacking I'll take some Pecorino Romano cut in nice large chunks, a side of bumper and a glass of Chianti. :D

people who love ur bumper and dont want to risk messing it up!

Just leave it on your car's dashboard for a day.. let it soak up the heat from the sun!! :) it worked for me

before i thought mine was a little loose, not as bad as others i think. i just boiled it for 1min and its perfectly snug. the buttons before also had some play, now it's nice and tight. the boiling worked.

"if you know how to cook hot dogs, you know how to boil a bumper."

can we make that into a bumper sticker, bumper for a car not our iPhone bumpers. :D

this has to be one the dumbest Q's and suggestions on a forum that i've seen in a long time.:D:D:D:D:D:D.

A deep fat fryer worked great for me. I was doing a turkey anyway and now the bumper fits more perfecter than before.

Hi mike , what kind of pouch is that in the background of your youtube video

Boiled mine just now...

30 seconds then ran under cold water, headphone jack area warped so I stuck it in for another 30 and took it out this time I squeezed the left side (headphone side) inwards of the bumper near the top just enough to straighten out the top around the headphone area and ran it under cold water again.

Fits like a glove now and no sign of any warp or any other damage. Can't make the bumper move at all now, excellent suggestion... No movement will definitely help the metal band scuff problem.

A big thank you to whoever thought this up.

Does boiling the bumper affect the cosmetic appearance at all? For example, does it cause any discoloration of the silicone or disrupt the glossiness of the plastic?

Seriously thinking about doing this. My bumper was a little loose, so I put some thin strips of gaffer's tape (wonderful stuff; think of duct tape with a velvety back and leaves no residue) inside on the bumper's anatomical left (right side as you face the phone). This solved the fitment issue for me, but I like the idea of not having to rely on a shim to make it fit, and there's other minor distortions that a shrinked fit might take care of.
