I like the threadstarter thing, but I'm not sure there's any good reason for your own name to be bold.

I don't like the bold thing or the thread starter thing ... If we had it as an option then everyone would be happy

I like both the bold and especially the thread starter.

I often scroll through a thread looking for my avatar, because then I want to read the posts after that to see who's responded. If I didn't have an avatar, it would be easier to find my name.

Thread starter is good because sometimes you're reading a thread and you forget who started it -- that can be important information 30 or 40 posts down.

All these people talking about options, don't you realize that it's the Apple way to offer as few options as possible? :p

i noticed it just now, and i have to agree with what's been said. it's a bit too bold. i do, however, like the thread starter title.

Eh. It doesn't do anything for me. But it doesn't make me angry on the inside, either. :)

With regard to the colored posts thing mentioned, and specifically with regards to the mods having a certain color, I think it could be beneficial to get the attention of the reader, if it could be used selectively by them- for official moderating purposes. All other, more personal posts would need to be the same color as everyone else's.

I'm not crazy about the bold.

Maybe a demi-bold wouldn't be as distracting. :D

Well, with an avatar there isn't a whole lot of reason to have the name in bold. So it is probably going to be more interesting for people below 500 posts.

The thread starter tag is absolutely genius. I love it.

I think both of them, particularly the 'threadstarter' part, are great additions.

I vote to keep them. I think that the bold username could be a personal option (as its only the logged in person who sees it anyway), but that the threadstarter should be made permanent. Perhaps with a colour change though?

When people say "let's make it optional" my impression is that they will turn off the feature personally, but don't want to take the choice away from others.

Based on that assumption, I think the bold feature is losing the popular vote while the Thread Starter feature is winning.

Choice is the way forward. If I don't like something, doesn't mean it should be removed all together.

Don't want toooooo many options and settings though, gets confusing. You have to draw the line somewhere. If that means upsetting some folks, then so be it. Can't please all of the people all of the time and all that.

Were you having a lot of problems with people not knowing who they were? lol

I didn't notice it. I unconsciously read avatars. If the person doesn't have an avatar they aren't worth my time.

A little snobby are we?:p

I think this tool is really more of an advantage for sub-500 post members. I'm really liking Q's idea of making it optional.

I can't say that either one holds any grand appeal to me.

The "Thread Starter" one may be occasionally useful, but so many threads here go off the OT fairly quickly and other users become the major focus of the thread. In those cases, the need to see the "Thread Starter", or even the importance of being the Thread Starter, is diluted. And perhaps it's the pessimist in me, but I'd see this as another incentive for some people to start threads just to be the "Thread Starter".

The bolded user name could potentially be useful to those without Avatars, so having that as an option could be nice. Personally, I wouldn't choose to use it.

You're lucky you have an avatar otherwise I would not have read your post. I'll have to adblock your avatar so I remember not to.

I'm just teasing both here and there.

Pandas are mean (especially the silent ones):p

Seriously, I would like to turn off the bold name, but allow non-tarred users to use it ( and anyone with a 'tar who happens to like it).

If the panda made noise you would run away from it, the silent ones are the deadly ones.:D

I want the option to turn it off. And if the "thread starter" tag is going to stay I want the color to blend in better.

How about this, bold until a member reaches 500 posts, then it gets turned off by default.

I don't know, the "thread starter" tag works for me in its current form. It pops out at you, which is why it's helpful.

Naw, I'm sure there are a few people who like even if they have 'tars. It really should be optional.

You know, I think I hear something behind me:eek::eek::eek:
