Books for ios has been removing my pdf files from my devices for too many years now. I’ve tried all possble configurations and switches, with or without icloud drive to no avail. PDF files are just removed and kept on the cloud. I’ve been too many times in situations with no wifi, needing a file and finding out it was only in the cloud, even if I had checked home before leaving if the document was really on my device.
Using musicnotes for all music scores and bluefire reader for all other files has solved the issue. I loved the sync between devices of Books, but the annoyances became more and more frustrating.
I know people will also use Kindle or Kobo for their files.
I’ve filed a bug report to the Books for Ios development team, but I’d be surprised if they react.
