Why did Apple bother making a new one of its failure devices. its a bit like Apple making an even better newton, it wasn't possible. and if that "not believed to be a USB port???" is correct it still will be a failed device, even if it did have an SD card slot, it needs to have at least 2 USB's. And a processor which is capable of being better than the previous one. an i3 will just make it more responsive and a little bit faster. Looking at the Thumb scoop in this picture it looks like the previous model, and the measurement lines are also not correct judging by how far away the camera is to the machine. i think this is just a mock up :apple:

That's unfortunate that you are so close-minded. Look at the AppleTV, it wasn't uber successful either, but after some time passed Apple re-made it and it's now very useful to a lot more people and it looks to be a device that will take full advantage of the App Store. I disagree about the Air being a failure. I actually owned the Air for about 8 months, it wasn't for me so I sold it and bought a MBP, but that doesn't mean it was a failure. Unless you have numbers to prove that it was a failure your argument isn't solid enough.

This is the biggest fantasy I've seen in years.

A Mac laptop for $800-$900??

...I gotta see that. That would be a record. Suspect the cheapest price at $999 for an OSX device. $1299 for the 13". That's more like it.

Actually I don't think it is a fantasy at all, I think the 11inch MBA will cost less than 999

Small

The 11-inch model seems a bit unlikely to me. In the keynote of Macworld 2008 (the introduction of the Air), Mr. Jobs explains why the MacBook Air will work, it's light and thin, but still has a 13-inch screen and a full-size keyboard.
During the iPad introduction he stated that people think that a netbook is in the middle of a smartphone and a laptop. Netbooks are smaller than laptops but not as powerful thus Apple created iPad.

I think it will be impossible to get a good size screen and a full-size keyboard in a 11-inch laptop (wich imo will look in that form like a sort of netbook), because just of the fact that it is 11-inch!
Maybe with higher pixel density on 11-inch (as some of you stated 1280x720) it would do a nice job, but where to put the keyboard? I'm really excited to see how they did it, if it will be there.

Ok, i will admit its like marmite, you either love it or hate it, i hated it, it actually pissed me of and i sold it, and then the owner threw it back at me, and it was so slow it couldn't run my USB hard drive, i tried my Fire wire one ..... but oops it doesn't have that port either. so i now have a SSD state drive that dosen't work, i erased the hard drive not the data on it accidentally, so now it is non recoverable, if it had Two USB's i could get it to work. The only time i will actually look at a MacBook Air again is when it has 2 USB's

Why do you think that? You could edit DV video on G3/G4 machines and on an iMac G5 even HDV could be edited well using Final Cut Express.

Some younger people don't realize that computers already existed for many years before they owned their first one, and that many of us have been working on computers for as long as they've been born.

More processing power/speed is always nice - but for most tasks, the rate at which processing power has continued to increase has far outstripped what people actually need to effectively perform those tasks. In my experience, the amount of RAM has almost always been much more important than processor speed - but even there, people don't actually need as much as they often claim they do.

Also, you kids get off my lawn.

Actually, I'm running a C2D iMac with 2GB RAM and it is far from useless. What high-powered apps would you be thinking of using on an 11" Air?

The 2GB / 4GB might be a deal breaker for me just because virtualizing with 4GB is a lot nicer than with 2GB. I often have 2 - 3 VMs open on my MBP. However, this 11.6" form factor is... well... very enticing.

I'm gonna have to see all the specs (obviously) but the 11.6" model (if it exists) is currently in my sites.

Also remember that the engineering involved in creating the Air also gave way to the unibody design of the MBP. Whether or not you like them stylistically, they're VASTLY superior to the old designs in terms of strength and ease of maintenance.

I'm actually angry apple seemed so against netbooks.

Coming from a college kid that is exposed to like 2000 MBPs a day...

If Apple made a 10-11in Netbook that was just essentially a mini MBP (unibody, buttonless trackpad, same color scheme) it would sell like crazy. I would love one of those too... Lugging around a 7lb laptop isn't fun.

Too bad Apple is "significantly" lowering the price. I enjoy status symbols. ;)

Please, don't post half-baked sarcasm.

News flash, that's actually what the MBA is.

<$999 ???

less than $999 not going to happen, do not keep the hopes high folks.

lately Apple even raised the mini to $699 from $599.

deal breaker is intel CPUs which are costing a lot!

are we ready for AMD? or AMD ready for mobile? both looks NO!

there is a slim chance that Apple Designs and AMD Manufacture, is it possible?

Excited about Wednesday...

All these rumors and such have me excited about Wednesday. It's the first time I've been really excited about an Apple event since... probably late 2008 when I was basically waiting with cash in hand to get a MBP.

I was originally thinking only about the Lion announcement, but the possibility of a machine near the same form factor as the 12" PowerBook has me salivating.

I share the same sentiment. For me, this is the most exciting event out of the 4 this year. Any small improvements made to Mac OS X always make me happy.

Are there any Windows notebooks the size of the MBA with an i3 and a dedicated graphics card? I am seriously curious.
Going to the i3 means a dedicated graphic card or Intel-integrated graphics, ie, less graphic power then the current nVidia solution.
Thus, is it possible to put that into a box the size of a MBA? Has anybody done it yet?

Mac mini only costed 600

And 999 and 900 are not that big of difference

So the top iPad is $29 and they will offer an OSX laptop for $899?

I can't wait to see this.

When Apple says "significant price drop" they tend to mean $100.
You might wish for a $899 Air 11" laptop, but expect a $1099 Air 11".
We'll see on Wednesday.

Do any of you really want a Macbook Air?
No... I'd buy a MacPad Air, tho.
That's just a pipe dream.

SSD is already an option but....

I would hope that the "unknown" could be a 3G SiM card slot:). It seems reasonable that including a GSM SIM card reader would free up the USB port (from a USB modem) as well as streamline the whole mac mobile experience, but maybe it is just a memory SD card slot. :apple:
