Look where he lives, you'd probably hide inside (away from the city and its citizens) if you lived there. :p

Not quite..

Okay, so if you are lurking around, why not give us some more details. Stop being so shady...Unless that is what you are trying to do, because you scammed the Apple Store and tryed to find some way to tell everyone without posting illegal activities. That's how 85% of criminals are caught you know...arrogance.

What? I havn't done anything illegal! It just wasn't the one in Dallas, that's all. I'm not being shady, I just don't want to hurt their business or anything.

Then why not give us more details...

Hurt business? Well, a mistake like that is worth noting to the general public, and especially fellow MacRumors members. Tell us so we can avoid them. If that really happened to you, help all the other members avoid such an ordeal as well.

Fine. Think the one in Plano.

So you mean, APPLE STORE IN PLANO, TX...? Just say it. I am not saying you are doing anything illegal, but to me, you are still being a little shady. Also, how big were the bags of topsoil? How many pounds each?

I am not sure what to think here...

A google search on the Plano Apple store refers to the Willow Bend store in mall of same name. It is listed as 7 miles from Plano. depending on where you live in Plano and traffic, it is about a 10 minute drive. ( I don't know the layout of the area).

So re-reading pipian's posts, it is plausible that he drove to the store after initially posting (twice) and posted a few more times while at the Apple store, then posted when he got home. I do not know how long it would take to get a problem like this sorted at the Apple Store, nor do I know why Pipian made no mention of posting from the Apple Store if that was the case (or if possible, even). The time frames fit, albeit barely...

Nevertheless, it seems plausible. I cannot say one way or the other. FWIW

ok i think his story's fishy.

he can't post online unless he is connected to the internet: then how is he online in a car? unless he lives in a giant hotspot then he can't really be online. (unless a phone works but is that possible yet?)

it sounds like theres multiple stores. (he hasn't set his mind on which one he went to)

and why is there dirt in a computer box? just doesn't sound right you would think it would leak out and end up leading to suspision....

well im sorry if im incorrect but thats just what it seems like to me: a hoax.

If he was scamming Apple Store for a new computer, why would he post on a forum about it?

Read my second post on this page for the answer as to why someone would do that.

I have no idea how heavy, I didn't take em' out of the box and weigh em. You know. That wasn't my first reaction to this.

Also, their were in bags, like you'd buy in a pottery or nursery store or something.

actually, Bluetooth + GPRS (or some other form of data connection), using the phone as a modem. I did this a bit last year with my T68i from AT&T. Still trying to do it with T-Mobile though :(

By the way, don't let this deter you from the store, It's a wonderful store, with friendly people

Funny that you quoted me asking how big the bags were and respond that you didn't know, yet you then posted that they were bags in the second post.

The G5 itself is 44.4 lbs, most soil comes in 40lb bags...Did you have two 20lb bags or what?

actually...

another poster mentioned a box full of dirt leaking, which is the post he was responding two about the bags. also i have purchased 20 and 15 pound bags of dirt at my local nursery. and for the previous posters, it's a dual G5 not an iMac, and yes you could post from a car with a laptop and bluetooth phone or pda and bluetooth phone. you sherlock holmes types need to review the clues a little better before you go blowing the case. sheesh.

Well, maybe you should take your own advice...

An eMac weighs 50lbs and the newest G5 weighs 44.4lbs.

Maybe it's just me, but if I had bought a new Mac, managed to get it home without noticing that the box had been compromised, and had then opened it to discover my Mac looked suspiciously like a couple of bags of dirt, I sure wouldn't be thinking about posting to tell you guys about it. first thought: "F%^*!". Second thought: "Take the box back to Apple Store pronto." Maybe remember to take a few pics...maybe.
Once I got it all resolved, I'd be posting for sure.

If this is legit, I apologize for being skeptical, but this sure seems a little, umm, unusual to me.

i guess i should...

since i said eMac instead of iMac, but beyond that, your post has no bearing what-so-ever. i wasn't judging his method or how much the bags weigh and how they correspond to someone picking up on the difference between two 20 pound bags of soil and and a 50 lb eMac. I'm not a detective or a cop. but you guys ought to be. especially with your keen sense of guilt and innocence.

when i bought my powerBook and G5 they didn't put them on a scale before i left to make sure they weighed in at the proper amount per package.

and truthfully, now that i read it again... what the HELL did your post even mean? when did i say anything about how much the mac weighed? if you're implying that the bags of dirt i was referring to don't add up to 44.whatever pounds, then read the second paragraph in my post. since i think they would only have to make it "feel" heavy enough unless it was while it was being shipped (where they do weight checks)

If such a thing ever happens to me I think I'd get pissed as hell, then take pics, then laugh at the stupidity of it all....

Only after I'd been to the store and set up the new machine would I post pics of the whole thing and tell the story.

I'd also not neglect to mention where I got it and hope the idiot to blame for the whole thing was persecuted....:D

I'd also try and get it slashdotted.....its such a great story - but you really need pics for it to work well.

D

In retrospect, I should've taken pictures, but that wasn't my first thought of course. The only reason the first thing I did besides box it up and put it in the car is just post it on these forums, is because I thought people would be interested/ laugh at my terrible luck about this as it happened. Now people are trying to blame me as if I took it myself or something. No, I didn't. Believe me or not, I don't really care. Believe what you want to believe.

EDIT:

Thanks Anderson. If anymore info comes through on it I'll keep you all posted.
