Why do people think that people need to lighten up? Everyone should have a right in posting whatever they feel like, especially when no evidence is given and the facts don't add up in this situation. It's total spam.

no one said you couldn't say what you wanted. but is it really worth it sit there and belittle him over your "oh this doesn't make sense".. seriously. get a day job.. it's not worth the effort to prove him wrong. like someone said, go watch CSI or law and order or something.. in fact.. go play where in the world is carmen sandiago... it'll probably be more constructive than trying to bash someone who thought you guys would get a laugh outta this. i believe him, i work retail, i've seen some stupid things. people do make mistakes, apple isn't superhuman and everyone works for them aren't perfect. something is bound to happen sooner or later. I highly doubt he's ripping apple off.. so get over it and move on.. NEXT topic please.. this one is as stale as a bag of chips that's been left open on a humid day.. move along.

Maybe because he has his new machine and is using it - that and he probably won't hear anything from Apple again about it - they'll be handling it internally.

So unless the person who did the swapping steps forward :D there really isn't much more to happen.

i'll tell you something.

Premise: If i had pulled a scam that allowed me to steal a G5 I wouldn't post details on MR.

Conclusion: This guy must not be a scammer.

This is called simple reasoning.

But, wouldn't this thread give more credibility to his "story"? If he was ever sued by Apple for fraud, wouldn't this thread perhaps add to his credibility. Well, I suppose in theory it should have, but we've proven far too clever for that.

Just for the fun of it, if the fate of the world rested on your logical capabilities, we'd all be doomed. :D

You've missed one key step in your process here, a premise correlating your behavior to the conclusion that this individual is not a scammer. Of course, you intended this as a given, but even so, your stated premise only deals with your likely behavior, not the individual in question, and so any correlation you would be able to draw is pure speculation, since your behavior has no effect on this individuals behavior. This is assuming you are not this individual in question, of course. :D

PS This is not a personal attack. Just having fun with your reply. :8:D:8

I know what you mean, but I don't think this would have made him more credible since he didn't really post any details. He just said there was dirt in the box, but we didn't get an extended explanation, pics or anything that might have been evidence (however weak).

Try this out for size:

The sky is not green and glowing. Therefore, the sky can be silver-colored. All due to the fact that: We have eliminated a possibility, so it can be this other possibility. Simple logic, my dear Watson.

"If it cannot be anything but the impossible, then it must be possible!"
-Someone I am too tired to remember

"You need history to make history"
--Me. I am tired. Do not question my logic, because I can out logic you.

Example again:
I know that you are not 5 years old. Therefore, you are 100 years old because you are not 5 years old which is a possibility that has been eliminated which brings us logically to you being 100 years old.

but why hasn't he showed up here yet? I find that rather fishy... (at least an update?)

If I had posted his story, and gotten the truly rotten feedback he got, I would have given up, too. I would be disgusted with the accusations, and be doing OTHER things with my computer than continuing to defend myself.

And we all know there are no dumb criminals

http://www.dumbcriminalacts.com/criminals.php?sid=&a=top25

A man walked into the corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the money from the cash register. After the cashier put the money in the bag as instructed, the man demanded the bottle of Scotch he saw behind the counter. The cashier refused to hand over the Scotch because he did not believe the man was 21. The robber swore he was, but still the clerk refused. Finally, the robber handed over his ID and proved that he was indeed twenty-one. As soon as he left, the cashier called and gave the police the name and address of the man who had just robbed the store. The suspect was arrested two hours later.

A nervous holdup man fled a Long Beach supermarket without a penny but was arrested afterward at his home. He had been recognized as the guy who had earlier filled out an application at the market for a check-cashing card, using his real address.

Charged with drug-possession, Christopher Johns claimed that he had been searched without a warrant. The prosecutor said the officer did not need a warrant because a bulge in Johns's jacket could have been a gun. "Nonsense," said Christopher who happened to be wearing the same jacket that day. When he handed the judge the jacket, a bag of cocaine fell out. The judge required a five minute recess so that he could gain his composure.

You have got to have some balls to pull of a stunt like that. That or completely nuts. Who would question a person's age that is shoving a shotgun in your face?

you can post and drive

Well enough to be able to view, navigate, and post on forums???? While driving?

I still don't know what the story is here, and I really don't care. Just asking about the mobile web thing.

Yes you can post and drive. At least I have(using my treo 600 on sprint), although I don't recommend it. Cops around here will pull you over and give you a ticket. The ticket will be for reckless driving as talking on the phone is not a pull over offense in NJ, but it is ticketable.

BTW off topic, but I love your new avatar edesignuk.

I think everyone needs to relax, forget about logic and why and just accept it. If you don't like, well, that's just something you're going to have to learn to deal with :D

As for closure...like I said before, if he got a replacement machine on his return trip, then he's done with it. He won't get contacted by Apple about the switcheroo - its all intern to the Store and Apple at this point.

Actually Something similar happened to me many moons ago (Well, except losing 2k or so)

Back a few years ago, I headed to Circuitcity to pick up what I thought was Grand Theft Auto Vice city for PS2. After purchasing "it", I darted home in anticipation. As soon as I opened the case I found that the game had replaced with an AOL Trial CD! I was furious!

Luckily, the store manager allowed me to return it for another copy. I figure someone bought the game, made the switch, re shrink wrapped it, and then took it back. Can't help but think: Its like a lot of work being a criminal.

I said it once and I will say it again...

I am NOT saying this is what it has taken place here or what is taking place, JUST that it's oh so common..

Criminals often find ways of bragging about there crimes. Do the research, you will see in tons of cases how an arrogant criminal, fresh off the crime, has to put their doing out into the world someway, and that is ultimately how they are caught. They tell their friend, someone random online, someone checking them out at the supermarket, etc. A situation like this would not surprise me at all, and I don't know why it should surprise any of you that it could be possible.
