Sure does. OP thought he might be dealing with a stolen iPhone until we pointed out otherwise. He most certainly would have been scammed out of more money if he followed through.

the funny thing is...the person can report it stolen and what good is it to the OP when he paid in cash?

They tried to contact me In my blocked spot for texts they just said trying to get a hold of you about the stolen phone. And a call was blocked too. Funny they leave no messages.

so got another call around 9pm. left a voicemail. calm and collected sounding just saying please call me back about the stolen phone. her voice just sounds shady.

tell them you already talked to a police officer and that the circumstances have been logged already and that you gave the officer their no. tell them an officer will be getting in touch with them soon. as soon as they got this message from you, i bet you 100% that they will stop calling or texting you.

if there is a kidnapping involved then most likely it would have been reported to the police. ask to meet with whoever is handling that case at the police station. i bet you wont hear anything after that

latest update, still have not answered their texts or calls. i blocked the number.

last contact was.
got a call at around 8pm. didnt answer.
last text was saying please call me at blah blah blah tomorrow. i work blah blah blah to blah blah blah.

Why don't you just set up a meeting at an Applebee's, (or somewhere public)
and let the local police know about it, walk in on it, and ask them what's up!

Selling stolen property is illegal, so is extorting money from you.
(what if they scam older people out of their money)

If this happened to me I would get my local police involved right away.
They can easily trace the phone number that calls to the owner, and they can ping the phone for a location.

This could be more serious then it seems on the surface, your local police should be asking these folks some serious questions !!!!

I doubt I would ever buy a phone from a stranger, regardless of the site or location. So far all my purchases have been with Verizon. There's just too much scamming going on to take the risk.

This is obvious extortion. I would have called the police by now.

More voicemails. They sound angry aggravated I haven't gotten back to them. Saying if they have to they will take it to my "home or work" and apparently she said some detectives name but it was inaudible cause it sounded like she was drunk lol. Mentioning a detective then threatening to bring it to my home or work makes a lot of sense.

Figured it would just blow over when they figured I wasn't playing their game.

Why didn't you call the cops yet and file a report?
They're threatening you and trying to extort money from you.
Let the police contact them and handle the situation.

The OP already did that (says so in the OP), but they can't really do anything unless they have their full names, etc.

Figured it would just blow over when they figured I wasn't playing their game.

It would've been over sooner if you didn't sound gullible (like in the OP) so they're still trying. Next time use a Google voice number when doing CL transactions.

I agree I probably did sound that way when I first talked to them it caught me off gaurd. And yes I only have their first name

Sounds like it's time for a text...

"Hi, I am sorry about not answering. After you called me I went straight to the police on x-street and told them I was in possession of a stolen iPhone and everything you told me. I left it there with contact information to both you and the seller/thief. They told me they would return the phone to you ASAP. You could probably go there and pick it up if they haven't managed to get a hold of you. I am currently using another iPhone that I purchased at the Apple Store in order to avoid this happening again. I am really sorry about your phone being stolen, but now you know where it is and you can go pick it up. Have a great day."

You underestimate the tenacity of criminal stupidity, money without working for it, and reckless drug use. :D

I saw a documentary about fake invoices, and persistency apparently is what pays off. Wearing people down by calling them over and over, saying stuff like "I don't want to cause any problems for you, so I'll give you another two days and then call back", is the name of the game.
