Really? Wasn't BT for wireless headphones and headsets built in into the iPhone 4??? Its not like Apple added new things to the iPhone 7. They removed something.

I think they mean in terms of marketing. They aren't going to go... 'hey, we removed that port you guys all hated so much'... they'll spin it in some supposedly positive way, like how the water-resistant aspect improved, or touting how great the new Lightening headphones supposedly are.

It's ironic that they should choose a song about losing things since that's exactly what will happen to one or both of these after a few weeks.

By the way, why do these types of ads always go for the young, beautiful and hip demographic doing 'stuff' while using them that tells me absolutely nothing about the product itself?

Well feel free to call me on that comment if Tim comes out and says -- "I'd like to announce the removal of a universally used audio standard".

You sound as if you've traveled to the future and watched the key note. How do you know they haven't added new things to the iPhone 7 that improves BT?

But, for sure, if you care about hifi music listening, you're better off just getting some good over-the-ear headphones, and probably an external amp.

There are many options for good quality sound that don't require giant cans and external equipment. Shure SE535s would be one example - at least they do have detachable cables, but no lightning cable available as yet. No need for an amp with these either.

Too bad the majority of reviews I have read tell me one thing, they suck! Clearly not ready for prime time, too bad, great design!
What reviews? They haven't even been released to reviewers yet. I think you mean last year's model, the Dash, which was pretty well trounced by reviewers for legitimate issues that Bragi went out of their way to correct with these new units.

Oh sure, there will be cheap versions, and yes, BT can be handy for a hand's free call now and then. I wouldn't use it regularly though. But, also consider some listen to music.

I listen to music, and have already tried with the new device. I've also tried a phone call with them. They're wonderful and easily way better than the headphones that come with the iPhone.

I think I'm just bummed because it just doesn't work with my reality and now I have to remember to carry an adaptor.

I'm interested in the Griffin Bluetooth adaptor but I have a Bluetooth Bose speaker, and it is garbage. The minute I go into another room with the phone or get more than six feet away it starts experiencing interference. Also, whenever I receive a text or a message there is feedback in the speaker. Plus, I have a Bose speaker with the 30 pin and two others that I used the 3.5 to continue to use. Lots of adaptor a I guess. Such a shame that technology is becoming so disposable. I fear for where we are going sometimes.

I had a flip cell phone that used the same port for charging and headphones and it was brutal. I swore never again. Funnily enough, they went back to the 3.5mm the next model.

At the end of the day, nothing I can do about it and really, it's just a phone. I've decided to hear out the keynote and, if the adaptor actually is included in the box I'll likely upgrade but, if it isn't, I'll get a 6S.

You will be seeing wireless ear buds everywhere now.. Gas stations, drug stores this is just the beginning.
All of which will need to be charged every 4 hours or so.

This is an improvement how exactly?

Apple won't be announcing the removal of anything. They will be announcing the launch of a better customer experience.
By needing to charge something, every couple hours, where you didn't have to before?

Improvement my $%&#@

Bragi gets it. If Apple's Airpods have a fixed wire, they're severely behind the times.

The whole "Her" experience is coming faster than many think.

Why are there so many posts here claiming that things will get lost?
Are you all losing your stuff all the time? How? Why?
Breaking your cables and adapters all the time?
Haven't people got an inkling how to take care of their stuff?
Bizarre.

He won't say it, but that's exactly what's happening.

And you wonder why people are pissed about it?

You sure do A LOT of trolling in here.

Here's 2 dumb things wireless earbuds and companies fail to realize:
  1. They can fall out easily, so the corded ones are actually nice as they "Save" the other one if one falls.
  2. No Microphone, yes this will be fun when I want to go hands free on a call, oh guess these can't do that.

...and by chance they do come with a microphone, you know the background noise is gonna be awful.

Chalk this whole wireless earbud idea up to a loss boys.

Hmmmm. Back in 2008 my nephew showed me a new phone that was on the market. It was called the iPhone. I had heard of other newer phones, but all I needed to do was make calls. Lo and behold, this new phone he had, had stuff like an iPod, an Internet browser, an app called Google maps. So I was intrigued and got one. Once I did, I found a whole host of new features that I never thought I needed or wanted. Today, I virtually cannot live without my iPhone. Now looking at the removal of the phone jack is a bit different, but I personally feel that it is the natural progression of a piece of hardware going back to the very first telephone operators. Actually, it's about time.I have never purchased a high end headphone or EarPods so for those that have, I can certainly understand their perspective. But on the 7th, I can't wait to see all the new updates coming to the iPhone.

Not that I think the iPhone 7 is introducing any must have updates over the 6s, but you'd give up current technology over what is likely to be a $20 adapter?

Fair enough Foggydog but this doesn't feel like a step forward but rather a cheap way to make money. There is no need to remove the port, they aren't using the space for anything (and the phones have gotten skinny enough - if it is for a bigger battery, increase the width by a few mm). But man, Apple sure does benefit by a surge of people buying adaptors, lightening headphones and all the licensing fees they will get.

Jan 5-8... when people cheer for removal of a feature.
At CES 2017.
When the rest of the world will be scrambling to copy Apple.
No way they pass up this opportunity to rub it in Apple's face.

With the Macbook using USB-C, and presumably Apple will ditch magsafe and go with USB-C charging with the MBP, android land will push 3.5mm and USB-C headphones hard. Bluetooth headphones that charge with USB-C, so you can listen wirelessly, or listen and charge at the same time.

"Innovations used by the whole world, unless you own an iPhone with a proprietary connection. Even Macs can take advantage of these innovations."

Stuff writes itself.

It's not about the money. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to decide which way to go and I'm tired of reading / thinking about this issue. So, think of this as my coin flip of choice.

How many swallow by mistake of such thing? Antenna gate, Bend gate, Swallow gate?

To be fair, I'm pretty careful with my stuff. For instance, I wear prescription sunglasses and have never lost a single pair. I don't know anyone who has never lost a pair of sunglasses. Nevertheless, when I was swimming a lot more I had earplugs, and kept them in a little box. I was very careful to clean and put them away after every use, but somehow, every now and then, one would go missing. Later in life I bought a pair of custom earplugs for going to concerts. Again, I always take great care to put them away after every use, but inevitably, one goes missing. Disposable ones always end up getting separated.

My point is, small things like these do tend to find a way to disappear, especially the way headphones tend to get used. A cheap pair of earbuds shoved in a pocket are probably gonna be easier to keep track of better than two individual buds. While I'd love a pair of buds like this, I'm not sure even I would be able to keep track of them. Having a way to link them would actually make me much happier. Having a magnet to join them together would also be great, because then they become a slightly bigger single thing to keep track of.

Not really. Humans are fallible, and some people have active, busy lifestyles with kids, pets and parties. Older people often have memory problems. Eyesight also deteriorates as we age which means it's easier to mislay things. We're not all ultra careful owners of our valuable items - even if we like to think we are...what are the chances one of these will pop out while jogging/in the pool/in the car. I'm also not buying your 'Mr I Never Lost Anything In My Life' line - sorry.
