Im actually agreeing with an earlier poster and am getting pretty excited about brett coming to NYC because I wont have to be completely crushed if he bombs a few picks, of course Id love to see him play great as well. Im going to try to pick up some tickets. this should be a fun football season in NY this year

This still blows my mind.

I completely understand, as atszyman said, the idea that at some point you have to commit to rebuilding. At some point you need to let the aging boss spend a little less time with a helmet and a little more time with a clipboard yelling at the new guy. But it's moronic to assume that Green Bay is at that point.

He is one of the all-time great quarterbacks. Not just an all star, an all-time great all star. He holds the record for most consecutive starts for any quarterback in history with 253. Oh, and that's 93 more than the next closest guy and, oh, all 253 of them were with the Packers.

And last season certainly doesn't provide any reason to let him go. The Packers go 13-3, their season ending in the NFC Championship game, in overtime, to the eventual Super Bowl champions.

So Green Bay wants to go another direction. They want to take the ball out of the hands of a legend who led their team to the cusp of the Super Bowl as recently as last season, who has played every game of his storied career there, to start Aaron Rodgers ... who has never started an NFL game in his two and a half years in the NFL after a mediocre college career.

Simply asinine. The resentful jerk part of me hopes this bites them in the arse. Hard.

I'd love to see a Packers vs Jets superbowl game this year, just so Favre can stick it to them some more. Unfortunately the Packers aren't going to make it without Favre.

As I said, Favre would have been the Pack's most likely candidate for winning the most games and had management not f-d everything up and just let him come and try out to be the starting QB (just in case he let himself go in his "retirement") the whole media debacle. However Favre is never going to be a "stand on the sidelines with a clipboard and yell at the new kid" kind of player. He's a player who has natural ability and would not make a great mentor due to all the crap he pulls that seems to work for him (most of the time) but would not be good habits for a newer player to start learning.

In recent seasons his starting streak has almost been broken by injuries sustained during the games. In 2004 he narrowly avoided such an injury when he was injured in a game with the Redskins the week before their bye week. He won't be indestructible forever and he almost broke his streak after the Cowboys game last year. I predict that the streak will end this year as the adjustment pains of the new offense work their way out.

I've been one of Favre's biggest advocates for coming back every year, I want to see him do well, unfortunately due to the handling of this whole situation he has become more of a disruptive force than a team leader and with such animosity between him and management I'm not sure that he would have been the same kind of leader and team player in the locker room that he has been in the past. If this wasn't the best year for Green Bay to show him the door, the circus surrounding his return pretty much ruined it due to failures of Green Bay management and Favre himself.

Rodgers did very well last year in the clash of the titans game of Dallas vs Green Bay, and I think he will do OK this year. Maybe not a division title, but the Pack should at least have a mediocre year, and I actually don't expect much better from the Jets as Favre and the team adjust to each other.

It's surreal to watch a completely different fan base defending and rejoicing that Favre is going to be their QB. I admit he's a football legend and even past his prime he's still one of the best QBs playing the game today, and while I'd rather see him in the green and gold I'll wish him the best and keep rooting for the Pack, but realistically neither team has much of a shot at the big game this year.

Please retitle this thread...

"The Official waiting for JET SuperBowl Tickets Thread"

THX
Tell me about it.Reading some of the fan message boards and hearing some call up the talk shows,it sounded like they had already got their plane tickets to Tampa..
Not to mention that Man kinda smart's nads are on the line this year and possibly Tannebaum's as well..They spent a boat load of money this offseason and anything short of a playoff appearance will be a disappointment...

I'm going off of what a radio guy said and I took his side on this matter.

If Brett had unretired himself 2 weeks after retiring, the Packers would have no problem.

But, Brett waited until Preseason to make his comeback. Why should they juggle the franchise around him?

The trade was strange, and I hope for the best out of him with the Jets.

The Jets aren't going to the Superbowl. Heck, they might not even make the playoffs. They are already going to have to settle for the wildcard, cos they aren't going to win the division.

They didn't make it with Farve last year, what makes you think they would of done it this year.

Ah well... better change the cover.

Talent. Skill. One more run. The Giants, had a date with destiny I guess, and no one could stop them. This year coulda been the dream year for Packers fans.

ROFL....yeah that cover will be on '10 XD

Something to buy today. I think he should take the number 38 for his age. :)

Farve's best shot was last year. He is not getting any younger. How many good Packer teams has Farve been on and how many rings did he get.

The awkwardness of his return is far outweighed by his capabilities. And a franchise whose offense is built around someone isn't "juggled" when, weeks before camp starts, that someone decides to return. Green Bay's "franchise" is Brett Farve, almost as much as it is

The Packers wouldn't have to let anyone go or work to fit him in under the salary cap. They didn't go out and get a superstar to replace him. They didn't make any sweeping changes to the offense. It was weeks before the Packers' camp began, much less preseason. And Farve is far from disliked by the majority of Green Bay fans, even in the midst of this he is revered.

If any one of those were true, I might begin to agree with the "radio guy," but none of them are. A definite negative would be the sulking of the quarterback who looked to get his first start years before most of his comparably qualified colleagues ever do, but that's so sensationally minor in comparison that I still just can't fathom this.

having grown up in wisconsin watching brett play for the packers, this just seems surreal. This is going to be worse than watching Montana play for the chiefs. my only solace is that perhaps Ill be able to see him play a few times out here on the right coast.

THE TIME MACHINE
Screenplay by Joe A

SCENE: NYC, September 2007

A stranger in a trenchcoach and glasses walks up to a random sports fan on the street

STRANGER: Pssst, hey you, come here. I got a tip for you. Eli Manning will play in the SuperBowl and beat the undefeated Patriots there, winning SB MVP. And Brett Favre will be a Jet.

SPORTS FAN: Yeah right, buddy... Can you share some of that crack?

Reminds me of Montana's move to KC at the end of his career. Why don't these guys know when to call it quits?

The Jets have a long history of this sort of stuff, second only to the Raiders.

Boomer Esiason when he was washed out in Cincy, Ronnie Lott when he was done with the 49ers, Art Mon when he was done with the Skins, come to mind...

I think Favre played excellent last season, just one off game where it mattered.

Yes he did play excellently last year, however the game he lost, he lost in the same fashion that's been becoming more common for him with a dubious pass into a covered receiver that ends up getting intercepted.

He was also on a team that he knew well and it was his second year with that coach.

I have to say it's a bit surreal to watch a different fan base jump on the Favre band wagon and defend his every move. This year is going to be an adjustment year for Favre and the Jets as the Favre adjusts to the new coaches and offense. If he stays there a couple years he might get them to the playoffs but only as long as his age doesn't creep up too fast.

He was 13-3 with the Pack last year, two of those losses were to the Bears and they ended up losing the playoffs in an OT loss the the Super Bowl Champs. His best chance for a ring was in GB but GB management and Favre burned too many bridges in this whole mess.

He may have one more Super Bowl run left in him with the right team, and that team may be the Jets, but I don't think it will be this year.

Of course I have been wrong in the past.

That's like saying,"Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
People remember what you do in the big game, when it matters most and when the chips are down. The Pat's O line played their worst game when it mattered most..Nobody is going to remember that three of them went to the Pro Bowl..
I think part of Favre "unretiring" is the fact that he didn't want his last image on the football field being his wounded duck to Corey Webster. Which for him, he seems to be launching those in the last several post seasons. But to the Jets??Vikings,I could see,esp w/Adrian Peterson in the backfield.
