At that price, I'd expect it to outperform my Casio. Got it when I was 8 and was second hand when it was given to me. Never even had to change the battery.

I love how people act like the life of the battery is the most important feature a watch could have.

I don't want a watch that just tells the time and the date-- I want notifications, a high res display, communication features, health/fitness features, apps, etc. I'm not going to bother wearing a watch anymore unless it does these things. I don't mind charging it nightly-- because I would take my watch off at night anyway!

I don't understand how they can offer these metal bands. Isn't that breaking Apple's terms or patents or something?

Forget the pictures of the watch..... I would like to see a photo gallery of their customers.

How can the comany price these when they don't yet know the price of the Apple watch? Or do they?

Seriously, does anyone actually see the appeal in these very expensive watches that are nothing but overpriced fashion items posing as lukewarm phones with horrible battery life, more fragile materials and a day of obsoletion? Really?
Not me :) With you all the way.

Please tell me you're 5. Or this is sarcasm.

Actually there is an interesting detail here, they are offering a gold apple watch with a row of diamonds for $7500. Which indicates that the price of the edition will probably be closer to $5k than $10k (based on wild estimates flying around).

I'm guessing they aren't planning on buying the Edition version and disassembling it to put it in a new case. That picture looks like the steel strap from Apple that they've gold plated. So maybe they start with that version. But since they are quoting prices here and we don't know the steel version price, I think they are confident that they can disassemble the Sport version and start with those internals.

Well, in my mind it is. A watch that has a 24 hour battery life is a rubbish watch as far as I'm concerned. It means I can't take it anywhere without having the charger and knowing I have to be near a power outlet to keep it running. Resulting in more hassle for a device that is meant to make your life simpler. Quite frankly, it's weak.

What's the big deal? People pay much more for diamond encrusted bracelets that don't have any electronics in them.

I can understand that the electronics have a shorter life-span than the accessory itself but we'll have to see how that plays out in the fashion industry because it's a new consideration inserted in the decision to buy a fashion piece for your wrist.

The reason why there are people that can easily affort such tasteless stuff is similiar to the reason why your real income is stagnating since years.

If they take an Apple watch, pimp it out and sell it for $50,000, why would they care what the Apple watch cost? Whether they make $30,000 profit or $29,000 or $31,000 doesn't make much difference.

If you buy a watch for $50,000, that's all not your problem, it's your PA's problem. And the watch isn't supposed to make your life simpler, it is supposed to demonstrate that you have more many than taste and it is clearly successful at that.

These are the perfect watches for people with more money than brains or taste.

I guess I don't understand the mentality of wealthy people.

This stuff looks incredibly tacky. Even if I were given it for free, and there were absolutely no risk of being robbed, I still wouldn't wear it. From my perspective it looks like they're making something expensive just for the sake of it being expensive. You're not getting anything out of it.

A different expensive item, though, the Tesla Model S P85+ is a $100,000 car, but it's luxurious, has amazing range for an electric car, and mind blowing pin-you-in-your-seat power. It feels like you're getting something for your $100,000, to the point that even I, someone who could not afford it, wants one.

But this crap? Assuming I couldn't resell it, it would sit in a drawer. Ugh.

Bull. That is the most simplistic meme around. Income stagnation is more complex than wealthy .25%ers. Their wealth has zero correlation to yours or mine, or lack thereof. But it does make for a great political rally to fire up the troops.

now, how many people you think are going to buy this $75K watch? not many. which would make it pretty desirable to some 1%ers in 5 years time.

people with money tend to collect things because they can.
Yes, but they don't collect things like this – obsolete tech – just because it's (somewhat) rare. Rare items become "collectible" only when they were previously perceived as worthless and become scarce, then their value is discovered after the fact. Most copies of Action Comics #1 were trashed or recycled during WW2, most Apple I's were thrown out when they stopped working or were replaced by Apple ]['s, etc. Something with intrinsic value like this (gold, diamonds) isn't going to be thrown away like that: they'll sit in people's jewelry drawers or they'll be put up for sale (at whatever the market will bear for them), so they'll never become truly rare.

In related news, Waxhead138 has just finalized the sale many of his bodily organs on the black market to finance the purchase of this Exclusive Apple W...

Wait. No, never would happen. Even If I had the cash like that....never would happen.

You're right that it's more complex than that, but your claim that it has zero correlation is even more simple-minded. And so divorced from the truth that it could only be derived from political ideology, and not economic analysis.

How much will it be worth in 1 year or even 5 years? Doesn't sound like a good investment (and a watch at that price should be an investment)

I don't think anyone buying a $75,000 watch is doing so for investment purposes. At the same time, anyone who owns a watch over $10,000 doesn't look at the watch and say, "Man, I wished I got email notifications on it" either. Regardless, the Apple Watch will probably be successful (maybe not in Apple terms) because there are enough Apple fans who will purchase the monstrosity.

I agree that this maybe the most interesting thing about the article. If they are planning on selling a 24K version with diamonds for $7500.00, it would seem that the edition version of the watch will have to come in significantly lower than that or apple risks not selling very many.

I really like the looks of the apple edition version and have been hoping that we are going to have a situation similar to the Ipad. Many "tech journalists" thought they were going to be in the $1000+ range and then Apple announces pricing starting at $500.00 and the place went nuts.

I think in this case the sport will start at $349.00, the standard edition will start at $499.00 and the edition will start at $999.00. I hope that they announce the pricing soon, so I know how much I need to save up.

This diamond-encrusted gold Edition Apple Watch makes me so angry that I just have to post a comment on MacRumors about it.
