Far too many assumptions. Apple made a product that you decide you can't live without, but pointless trying to validate it.

They're predictions, not assumptions. It's based on a close and careful evaluation of the market, Apple's present and history, polling data, online evaluations of the product from various perspectives, the words that come out of Tim Cook's mouth, etc.

How much will it be worth in 1 year or even 5 years? Doesn't sound like a good investment (and a watch at that price should be an investment)

Exactly. Jewelery and watches last for ages. A "Gen One" electronic device has a short shelf life in contrast no matter what you encrust it in.

I always laugh when I hear people in here shocked at the price of this up coming watch!? Most watches average cost is more?? So, are you saying since Apple is making it , it should be cheap??( in price ) Apple is a billion dollar comp! I expect them to make something for the well to do folks out their ! And yes, it will sell!!

It will come with only one app installed:

Wow that takes me back. I remember downloading a free version that someone posted to the store that had the same picture on it. I briefly tricked my friends into thinking I spent $1000 on an app. Those were the days when there were like 100 apps total on the App Store. That was also the first summer in college that I couldn't find a job leading up the the recession. Instead of learning Objective C and actually becoming rich (so many ideas I had became apps that year) I wasted my summer looking for local work, playing video games and hanging out with my girlfriend. At least she became my wife but everything else was a waste.

People who think 75,000 is spare change.

Or for the same money you could buy something classy and attractive that will actually appreciate in value...

I may take the day off when the watch is released...grab some popcorn and sit back...this board (and the Internet) may explode...

Too costly...inexpensive for what it does
Ugly...beautiful
Battery stinks...I can easily get 2 days use
Not waterproof...I can't wait to wear it in the shower
Gold is gaudy...gold is gorgeous
I wear a Rolex...automatic watches are not accurate
Tech is outdated...this is timeless

And of course...

Steve would hate this...Steve would love this

Like buying a Porsche.

Have you ever driven a Porsche? As a Porsche driver, I can tell you there's no similarity between owning blinged out jewelry and owning a refined sports car like Porsche. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Maybe if you had said bejeweled dental overlays.

And my last comment of the day, Brikk is also offering a platinum version of the apple watch.... uhh how do they do that? Unless platinum is an option we haven't heard about.

Brikk must be planning to remove most of the Apple Watch and rebuild it with their own cases and bands. Their gold watches don't match Apple's offerings at all. If they can make a 24 kt gold case to hold the display, sensors, electronics, etc., I guess they can make a platinum one just as easily.

At first I thought they were adding diamonds and gold (or platinum) plating to real Apple Watches. But they don't say anything about plating. It would be very risky for them to advertise 24 kt gold, if it is really just gold plated. So they better be supplying real 24 kt cases -- which Apple won't make as far as we know.

Since Brikk doesn't say otherwise, I assume they will buy Apple Watch Sport (the cheapest) and their finished product will include a glass (not sapphire) display cover and composite (not ceramic) back.

I wonder how many of Apple's patents they will infringe, and whether they will get away with it.

Edit: I missed a crucial detail on Brikk's web site. Their watches ARE plated: "PLATING IN YELLOW GOLD, PINK GOLD OR PLATINUM." So they are probably using real Apple cases and bands, which would make them safe from a patent point of view.

It clearly says they are plated.

Each piece is disassembled inside Brikk's state-of-the-art laboratory in Los Angeles by a team of skilled engineers. They are hand polished, then plated with five layers of diverse metals before their final plating in either two layers of gold or platinum.

Buyers of this product are not getting it for the investment. Not every purchase has to be an investment.

Things like this will definitely sell-- it's how the very wealthy stay on the bleeding edge of tech without compromising the prestige of their jewelry.

What will they do in 1-3 years? Buy a new one, because they can easily afford it. It's not rocket science.

Just to be clear, this is not a product for the wealthy. It's a product for the wealthy and tasteless. Precision targeted at China's and the Middle East's Nouveau Riche.

Aww, please tell someone for whom 75,000 is spare change how to spend their money, I'm sure they've got their ear to macrumors.

This right here is why even if the Apple watch doesn't live up to expectations it will still perform well - other luxury brands are lining up to append their brand next to Apple's. Regards of the merits of say the Moto 360, its a different game entirely.

This looks tacky to me unless you're a rapper.

Not directly related to this but I am actually less taken with the looks of the Apple watch now than when it was unveiled. Unfortunately for me I liked the navy leather band/gold combination look best so too much to spend on something like this.
