At that price, I'd expect it to outperform my Casio. Got it when I was 8 and was second hand when it was given to me. Never even had to change the battery. It's been a total trooper over the years, surviving everything I've been through.

Seriously, does anyone actually see the appeal in these very expensive watches that are nothing but overpriced fashion items posing as lukewarm phones with horrible battery life, more fragile materials and a day of obsoletion? Really?

Obviously there is appeal since there's an entire market for "very expensive watches" and "fashion items." Rich people will just buy a new one next year.

It's perfectly acceptable to mock people who a) have no taste, and b) are primarily obsessed with flaunting their wealth in the gaudiest possible manner. Race has nothing to do with it, although in general it is a subculture dominated by low class uneducated people who have suddenly come into a lot of wealth. I've yet to see a race that's immune to this phenomenon.

I don't think Paris hilton fits that description but this seems right up her alley.

how much did the original iPhone sell for once people had all ditched theirs and upgraded to the 4? i seem to recall them going for ~$1.5k a few years ago... and how many people bought the original iPhone at ~$600? 6mil?

now, how many people you think are going to buy this $75K watch? not many. which would make it pretty desirable to some 1%ers in 5 years time.

people with money tend to collect things because they can.

People who can finance buy things because they can, people with money buy things that earn more money. This could be one of those, definitely not my area of expertise.

Please don't refer to those people as if they are to be envied or admired. They are solely defined buy the inverse relationship between their wealth and sense of taste and class.

I never implied that the Paris Hiltons or Kardashians of the world are to be envied or admired. I just stated that those types of people buy these luxuries. And there are a lot more people like this that you or I would care to know.

LOL @ the people here who are getting mad because over this gold watch. Some people here act like it's going to embarrass their lives because Apple's Watch is getting pimped out by 3rd party watch band companies. Get over it. These are made for celebrities and regardless what some elitist people think many people will say these look good. You're not Apple's only customers. Get over it.

Well people said the iPod was an overpriced fashion item. People said the iPad was just a big iPod Touch and would never sell. People said Macs would never be used by anyone but professionals. Most people are wrong about Apple's products not becoming successful or not appealing to the masses.

#1 Those people were all wrong. While all of those products had their share of snob appeal, they were - at their essence - good, useful, well-designed products. Their trendiness was secondary.

#2 Anyone predicting that the Apple Watch will fail (or that the gold version will fail) will likely be proven wrong. But that's not the point. The point is that in releasing what is rumored to be a rather ridiculously priced Apple Watch whose sole price justification is a gold case, Apple seems to be straying from the company we know.

There are people that will buy this.

I was in the middle east recently, and it is very common for people to have two iPhones (why one isn't enough, no clue) and for them both to be gold-clad.

Because it's common in the Middle East to use several service providers and hence need several SIM cards and several phones. When I was working in Saudi it was common for me to confiscate a mobile from a student only for him to produce another before I'd managed to return to my desk!

Actually, they should be envied because a portion of the purchase price of a Brikk item goes to philanthropy:

BRIKK'S 'PROFIT FOR PHILANTHROPY' MODEL FUNNELS A PORTION OF PROCEEDS TO ASSIST POPULATIONS AROUND THE WORLD WHICH ARE SUFFERING. FOR EACH PRODUCT SOLD, A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF AID IS ALLOCATED AND DISTRIBUTED TO THOSE IN NEED THROUGH SELECT NGO'S

and

ALL DIAMONDS ARE NATURAL AND CONFLICT FREE.

So both the customer and Brikk are "Socially Aware" :D

How much will it be worth in 1 year or even 5 years? Doesn't sound like a good investment (and a watch at that price should be an investment)

Diamonds are always a bad investment.

But this part is hilarious:

"Similar to the Apple Watch in terms of sizes"

Wow, really? It *is* an Apple Watch, so it's similar to itself???

I based that assumption on this comment:

"We just don't get it, because we are the peasants of the world."

If it was meant as sarcasm, I missed it.

A portion? Which portion is that? Companies that do this often say like 5% or 1%. That they don't disclose the portion means it's probably like a buck.

10 to 20k dollars for the watch edition? WHAT???? It's 18k gold, not pure gold and it's an electronic device from Apple. Expect 2-2,5k USD as a lot, you don't know what you're talking about

That's an empty, self-serving statement if they don't disclose what portion of revenues will go to "philanthropy" or who, exactly, it will go to. For all we know, that's $10 per watch and "philanthropy" is defined as the nearest strip club.

People are estimating the Edition will contain about 30g of 18k gold, for a bullion value of about $1200. You actually think Apple is going to go to the trouble of making a gold watch just to give away the gold at cost?

An iPhone lasts about a day.

Still? Wow, I thought things would have moved on from the iPhone 4 (first and last iPhone I ever bought). I've since had a Nokia Lumia and a BlackBerry that all do better than a single day battery life like my iPhone did, more like 3-4 days. It's kinda shocking to discover iPhone users are still coping with a single day charge life. No wonder Samsung did the whole 'wallhugger' promotion thing.
